What would get you to be more active on the OC?

Damn, wow. I probably won't have too many people interested in helping out at that price. Did they have 1/8 page ads available?THE4RINGZ;1190483 wrote:I paid $80 for a 1/4 page ad last season. -

ernest_t_bassIf you do go the HS advertising route, I suggest having a direct link that would take you straight to HS forums, like www.ohiochatter.com/hssports

OSH
That's the way to get some nice advertising. Everyone would like to see more members but not many are willing to help get those new members. That is a simple way to really get the word out about the OC. Sometimes it's easier to do, especially if there are coaches around here. I am a mod of a very localized forum and the membership and viewership has really dropped off. Unfortunately, no one cares and it has pretty much ruined a decent forum. I had suggested the same thing about getting some stuff at the local schools' sporting events and nothing has been done. The owner/operator of the forum even coaches at a high school and his high school has one of the lowest participants, possibly.justincredible;1190436 wrote:Unfortunately I don't have the resources for that. It would take "donations" from members putting an ad in their schools program.
I think the increased moderation OR visible moderating is a good idea. I think the reducing of NSFW images in random topics is good. Although, having many scantily clad women around may be not such a good idea to have advertising on HS sports pamphlets.
I don't think that reducing the "religion" topics is a good idea. I am one that enjoys them. They can be derailed easily, BUT they are often very popular discussions. I don't think they should be moved to "politics" because they aren't political...if they are out of the "Serious Business" forum, then they should get their own forum. That way if you want to get into the religion discussions, you know where to find them.
I think that the increase in individual sports' representation would help the "general discussion" overall. If there's a way to tap into the sports chat, it'd be worthwhile. It will be hard, I believe. I think the discussion on Yappi, JJ, SEO Preps, RocketCorner, or whatever else seems pretty "dead" outside of the sports' seasons -- not much feedback in "general discussion" forums. But, with increased traffic in other forums the likelihood of increased traffic in other forums is more likely. -

justincredibleIt would be cool to do tailgates every week at a random football game, too. But holy shit that would be expensive.

Do a big tailgate and get as many OC members to attend and help out. If i lived in ohio i'd go to hang out. Also - what about an OhioChatter vinyl wrap for your truck?justincredible;1190531 wrote:It would be cool to do tailgates every week at a random football game, too. Haha, I've actually thought about the vinyl wrap idea but those are expensive and it would really only help in Cincinnati since I don't drive outside of the city often.Raw Dawgin' it;1190533 wrote:Do a big tailgate and get as many OC members to attend and help out. One big tailgate to kick off the season would be cool. -

Maybe. Maybe not. Do people tailgate for high school games?thavoice;1190540 wrote:I think the tailgate would be a gigantic FLOP. -

What about a rear window sticker then? Can't hurt and they're not expensive, it doesn't solve your problem of reaching the masses of ohio but it certainly wouldn't drain your income or hurt the site.justincredible;1190541 wrote:Haha, I've actually thought about the vinyl wrap idea but those are expensive and it would really only help in Cincinnati since I don't drive outside of the city often.

Glory Dayswhat effect would teacher/student hook up threads have when advertising in highschools?

I can throw some stuff up on my high schools sites, but I would 1) wait until it's closer to football season and 2) make sure the NSFW stuff is cleaned up a little. I personally love it, but parents are going to want to avoid that kind of stuff with their kids.justincredible;1190436 wrote:Not really. I played around with some google and facebook ads but it didn't really work. I also can't really afford to do much advertising.
One thing that would help get people into the HS sports forums would be to advertise in school sports programs. Unfortunately I don't have the resources for that. It would take "donations" from members putting an ad in their schools program. But, I have no idea how much something like that would cost and it anyone would want to do it.

But if you put the ad together and send it to me, I will put it in a couple of HS football programs around here. (Because this site needs MORE Wayne County representation on the HS boards.) -

No way. Percentage wise Holmes probably has three times as many homes without electricity. -

Careful now... nothing would make this place worse than an incentive to create bullshit threads. There's already enough of 'em out there.justincredible;1189228 wrote:Just wanted to open up some discussion to see what would get people more active on here. I can't offer a pony to everyone that posts but I have tossed around the idea of doing $10 giftcard drawings every month based on creating threads that generate a decent amount of discussion. Any other ideas? Again, please be serious.
I do agree tho... this place has lost a bit of it's luster. I know it's the post-season, but the College Football forum is a ghost town. I don't remember it being that dead last off-season.
This place definitely has lost some of it's luster, and I'm all in favor for spicing things up a bit because there's no question that when people post & comment [intelligently], this is a really great place.
