I don't think I'd mind that, honestly. He's a smart guy, and despite how upset people get with him, I don't think it'd be bad at all.1_beast;1189426 wrote:Good input coming in!

I'm sure you will figure it out and it will be a good site, lately you seem more serious about turning this site around. You ever think about doing interviews with high school and college athletes that can be posted on your site, it would draw more people in from the schools of the athletes.justincredible;1189408 wrote:I am in the process of changing the site layout, theme, format. It'll still be the forum but there will (hopefully) be more activity outside of just the forums. More details will be coming soon. But, I don't see the site name changing. And yes, this wasn't started as a sports site. It was started as a hey let's all bullshit when we're not busy site. -
thePITmanMore people talking high school sports state-wide. It's virtually non-existent compared to Yappi and JJ.

You wouldn't have a problem finding someone, they get to hone their skills and you get a writer trying to prove themselves with increased membership at no cost to you.justincredible;1189419 wrote:I am actually working on some people outside of the community to create additional content. If it is not going to be a sports site, then why do people always try and compare it to JJ's? A general chat site is not something Justin would want to waste his money on. You have Twitter and Facebook for general chat, so if that is his plans I hope he doesn't plan on getting a return on his investment. You have to think outside the box and build something different if you are going to be successful on the internet when it comes to social media/ chat sites.queencitybuckeye;1189404 wrote:Where did you get the idea that this was to be mainly a sports site? -

Speaking as someone who makes a full-time income on the intertubez, Facebook and Twitter are insufficient for forum-style conversation, and sports forums are anything but "thinking outside the box," as they are probably one of the more common forum types out there.password;1189452 wrote:If it is not going to be a sports site, then why do people always try and compare it to JJ's? The more general a site, the more visitors likely, but also the less targeted. It's a give-and-take that comes with any kind of traffic.
The unique part of this is that it IS targeted. By the title itself, it is Ohio-related. That does target it some, at least as far as the focus (not saying they have to live in Ohio, of course). A perfect example of this playing out is FFT's thread today. He asked about "Akron." Because this site is adequately targeted as Ohio-focused, nobody had to ask, "Akron where?"
Finally, given that there are still subforums with niche topics, you can still advertise with some form of targeting, ESPECIALLY when you get down to the thread level.
Bottom line, it doesn't have to be further targeted to be profitable. Test and adjust. Test and adjust. People do it everyday, and they make it work. No reason Justin can't. -
dlazzI don't like that editing in a different color nonsense sleeper suggested. It'd be better if you could put it at the bottom of a post, like if someone goes back to edit their post it says "Edited by (whoever) at @ whatever for (reason)"
Also, you should tone down the religion stuff. No more threads "asking for prayers" for people who are sick/dying/dead/whatever.
Those threads are begging to be trolled, no matter what their intent is. -

How often do prayer threads pop up, though? I do agree that religious topics always seem to turn to shit.dlazz;1189470 wrote: Also, you should tone down the religion stuff. No more threads "asking for prayers" for people who are sick/dying/dead/whatever.

justincredibleWhile the site wasn't started as a "sports" site in the same vein as JJ and Yappi it is definitely something that brings traffic in. It's never going to be the main focus of the site but it will be a bigger part in the future. More details will be coming soon once I'm comfortable with the progress I've made on the new stuff. Should be in the next few weeks.

Yes and no...when you edit a post it puts it out of the way and is usually easy to overlook. edits are black and easy to miss. general moderating should be the same.
put it out there, but dont make it blatantly obvious -- just let people know where it is.
If a thread spirals out of control and you have to nuke a bunch of posts, THEN you could make it bold/red and say to cut the BS out or the thread will be locked. -

It's marginally existant on both of those two as well. When JJ fell apart the HS talk went to shit everywhere.
Yappi probably has the most HS action, but it all focuses on 2 counties
