Alright phone nerds, I need assistance.

If you only have a device that lasts 6 hours on a charge running LTE, that doesn't give you a good user experience. Also, customers don't want to brick for a phone (huge batteries). They want something that is thin and light. In the current batch of SoC, it doesn't allow for good battery life and 4g connectivity at the same time. However, I am sure in short order it will improve.
It is nice to see even towns like Lima should have LTE by the end of the year.
Hogwash. There are plenty of great devices out there. For Verizon, the Droid CHARGE. For AT&T, the Atrix.
If the iPhone 5 is 4G, look out. That will be a game (i.e., industry) changer. It would be thin, fast, and decent battery. That will springboard the competition into finding ways to answer the battery drain issue. -

I've been checking out the Photon on Sprint. I'm available for an upgrade, but still unsure. I've never been a huge fan of Motorola phones. -
karen lotzYes I've had it for weeks.
Edit: FUCK NO I don't have it, been waiting on it since December. There have been some new leaks recently with pics, retail price, and I think a few accessories. Its now rumored to be in stores September 8th, with POSSIBLE online ordering available the next Thursday or the 1st of da month. So cash your checks and get up. -

Thoughts? I'm debating on whether to hold out for the bigger discount on the upgrade or possibly the iPhone if it comes to Sprint.

Please see my edited post -
karen lotzAlso, in regards to your battery life question, I'm pretty sure it has a bigger battery than other phones and the life is supposed to be a lot better than the other LTE phones out right now.

Hogwash? I don't consider the Atrix 4g (that is up for debate) since it is using AT&T's 3g network thus battery life is better. Droid Charge? Really? It might be a nice phone but it isn't a got to have phone. It isn't close to being on the same line as a Galaxy S II or a IPhone. -

The CHARGE is an excellent phone. -

What are you comparing it to? Is it the best of the current corp of LTE phones? Sure. Is is the best phone on the market? I don't think so.
It is a last generation phone that doesn't have the WOW factor. -

Android 2.2 running on a S5PC110 (clocked at 1 ghz - single core), SGX 540, 512MB would not equal current or new generation specs for a phone. You can slap a LTE chip into a phone but it doesn't make it a current or next geneation phone. -

Have you used the Photon? -
imex99Yes, used photon and have evo 3d. Both great phones but could have waited it out longer... Always something better around the corner.

And when that one comes out, there is something else around the corner. And when that other one comes out, there's something else around the corner. That's the nature of the beast.imex99;866775 wrote:Yes, used photon and have evo 3d. Both great phones but could have waited it out longer... Always something better around the corner.

No offense, but I hated selling phones to guys like you. Drove me absolutely nuts when someone would come in to look at a phone, and then would talk about how they are going to wait for the next phone to come out...and then they would do the same thing all over 3-6 months later. Even worse, was when they would buy it "to give it a test", and you just knew it was going to come back. I would rather deal with billing issues than customers who did that.
The Photon is a very solid device, as is the EVO 3D. Specs on both phones will carry a customer who buys it today through their two year contract without feeling like they are too out of date by the end of it. -
karen lotzForget these guys sherm. How about getting me a Bionic for free.ninety-nine?

i hate when people bitch about battery life. you're used to phones from the past that would only make phone calls and text. dont forget you are holding a computer in your hand and not a phone.Jawbreaker;866323 wrote:The rate VZW is expanding their 4g network has amazed me but it isn't the network that is holding back 4g adoption with customers, it is the devices. gport_tennisAnd you can always turn 4g off when you are not using it.

So wait, you are cool to have a phone that only last 6 hours on a charge? You must be a cell phone manufacturer's dream. Also, I hope you didn't think I was bitching about battery life in my last post.
I really hope the reports are true about the Bionic's battery life because it just might be my next phone. My Incredible's power button is just about ready to fall off. -

no, i am just realistic. you are asking a phone to do more and more and get smaller and smaller but batteries can only do so much. batteries have been around a lot longer than smart phones and the limits are being reached much faster.Jawbreaker;867313 wrote:So wait, you are cool to have a phone that only last 6 hours on a charge? Haha, customers like me... I'm just a tech nerd, don't return the stuff but sell current phone on eBay and buy new phone once a year, which I'm able to with sprint because I'm a gold premier customer.
I love my 3d but the battery kills me(not phones fault but lousy sprint network).
Hopefully sprint comes through upgrading the network with "network vision" and will hold a candle to verizon and get iPhone. My father in laws iPhone destroys any sprint phone i've had in last 4 years. We go to osu football games early, I'll be on battery 2 almost drained of 3 when he's on 50% from 100% and the large part of the problem is the network but android phones aren't optimized for how much they do and the small sized batteries yet. Each android phone gets better but no where near competing with the iPhone battery yet.
