The National Anthem

    Take care.
Let me explain this in a syllogism ...

Premise 1: One must acknowledge and address something in order to comment about it.
Premise 2: If one is acknowledging and addressing something, it has his attention for that period of time.
Result: You are paying some attention to it, even if only when you post about it.

Let me make it even simpler than I already have:

I am not watching or listening to ANY NFL games, or sports shows with NFL highlights or lowlights, or anything else related to the NFL. Millions of other former NFL 'fans' are also refraining as am I, which is why ratings are sinking and the 'ship is listing'. It takes zero time to do the above, with zero attention given to these ignorant jackasses.

Perpetually triggered. Holy shit, that must suck.

I'm not missing any games of the teams I'm interested in. If others are stepping away from football, it doesn't change my life in any way.

The hilarious part being that when you boycott something, that's cool -- you're letting your money speak for you. When you boycott something and constantly remind people that you're boycotting something every chance you get, you've become the sort of attention whore that has far more in common with those liberal college student protesters than you'd ever admit -- where you're turning your boycott into a "fashion statement" where it's all about you being able to say you're protesting/boycotting, as opposed to you simply taking your dollar and/or time elsewhere.

Who mentioned time? You said attention.

We're on here talking about them. That's attention.

You went out of your way to bring them up in order to say you weren't watching. That's still attention.

If you were ACTUALLY not giving them any attention, you wouldn't have uttered a peep about them, because they simply wouldn't have come to mind to even post about.

Refrain all you want. In the end, the NFL will survive and ultimately be fine. Same as Chick-fil-A, Starbucks, and Hobby Lobby. They all survived boycotts just fine.

Obviously, feel free to speak with your spending, but the fact that you needed to mention it on here seems to indicate that you didn't think speaking with your spending was enough.

That's debatable. The NFL has much bigger issues than players kneeling for the Anthem.

I don't watch the NFL at all....no professional sports really.

Just don't care for the me firs attitudes exhibited by many of the over-paid and under-charactered self indulged players.

The National Anthem issue is just one issue....

You did: " it has his attention for that period of time."

And I essentially wrote: I have not spent (wasted) any time on watching the NFL.

    Good luck.

Fair enough. Still, I sincerely doubt it gets to the point at which there's no money in it anymore, so the idea that it won't survive in some form is, I think, a longshot bet.

    You'd already said it here:
QuakerOats;1879525 wrote:I am not paying ANY attention to the NFL [...]
And you implied it even earlier, here:
QuakerOats;1879343 wrote:Another solid Sunday of getting projects completed around the house without the interference of NFL football. Working out real well.

For a person who isn't paying any attention to the NFL, you're awfully active lately on a topic about the NFL.

QuakerOats;1879752 wrote:And I essentially wrote: I have not spent (wasted) any time on watching the NFL.
I don't need your paraphrase. I quoted your explicit statements above.
    QuakerOats;1879752 wrote:Good luck.
I don't need it, really. I already understand that focusing on and discussing something qualifies as "attention." I'm freely admitting that even by merely posting here, I'm paying attention to the NFL.

    Good luck.

Does anybody really care who does or does not watch football?

    Or is it only QO?

Belly used to get dog-piled all the time too. So I guess some habits are just hard to break.

As I have stated, I am investing zero minutes in the NFL, and I am certainly not going to back away from telling anyone about it.

    Carry on.

I don't know how thin your skin is, but I could recommend some hand lotion that would help hah!

I don't care what your WPS is, there's no way you've spent less than a minute typing everything you've typed in this thread about the NFL from just the last two days alone.

Do you not get it? You telling us about your response to the NFL is itself, in fact, attention to the NFL.

If you and I discuss Donald Trump, whether or not we voted for him or watched any of his speeches recently, we're still paying attention to him. Just having a discussion about him requires us to have our attention on him.

Same applies to anything. You going out of your way to tell us you're not paying attention to the NFL, particularly when it's unprovoked (Nobody asked you if you were still watching the NFL), is attention to the NFL.

If you really want to prove that you're not paying any attention at all to the NFL, not talking about the NFL would probably be the best place to start.

    Good Lord.

Maybe I will just post memes so you can understand.

Do you walk past restaurants, stop at the door, open it, and inform everyone inside that you're not eating there, and then claim that you're not paying attention to that restaurant?

Of course not. Because anyone would know that if you did the former, the latter would be a lie.

I do applaud you for not already making sure we know you didn't watch any football yesterday. Now you're getting it.
  • O-Trap
And you were doing so well ...

I'm not even contesting what you're trying to imply here. Only your claim that you're not paying attention. It seemed as though you hadn't been, but with the above post, you once again directed your attention to the NFL in order to search out links to paste in here.
  • QuakerOats
The NFL week is not even over yet :)

And it took all of 6 seconds to cut / paste the links from Drudge; figured you would be waiting.
