Disgusted with Trump administration - Part I

This, quite literally, makes no sense. Everything desiring to provoke action is, at some level, marketing. What would be the pitch? Come join the party? Parties don't involve risking life and loved one. Help us set up an Islamic state? Anyone radical enough to want that is already either involved or is being groomed to be involved at the current rate.

Beyond this, we don't live in an era where information is so easily quelled, even in a region we often think of as being underdeveloped desert, so the notion that we were "defeated" would work less effectively than ever.

You won't recruit fighters without a mighty villain to fight. It's the exact same way political campaigns get donations. I used to do the fundraising for the ACLJ and Citizens United, and the better pitch was ALWAYS a horrible disaster that was going to be difficult to overcome "unless we get support from every last freedom-loving man/woman, just like you." Not a single one of those pitches was chosen by urgency or the importance of the cause. Every one was chosen based on what brought in the most money, and every time, it was the one against a difficult enemy, not for the grand hero's promenade or celebration. It wasn't even close.
majorspark;1847750 wrote:It's worthy to note two great historical world empires Egyptian and Persian for most of their history did not adhere to the ideology they cling to today. Maybe converting is the best way to dry up recruitment.
Actually, you could lump in the Neo-Assyrian empire, as well. I doubt Shalmaneser V would recognize Syria in its current iteration. In reality, none of the three are even the same entity as the empires by the same name.

    Not unlike Israel, frankly.

Every time a terrorist is killed, people make the lazy and unfounded statement "but you just created two more"...which is essentially an argument for doing nothing. The only objectively and undeniably true statement is you have another dead terrorist.

Agreed; that is the pacifist narrative. Nice to finally take the handcuffs off the military leaders to do the right things instead of letting political winds dictate action, I mean inaction.

I think the strikes are the right thing to do. I do wonder if all of these unilateral military actions since 2001 are not the best way to do things even if they are ultimately legitimate.

Speaking in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Mr Trump said that Mr Xi “Went into the history of China and Korea … and you know, you’re talking about thousands of years … and many wars. And Korea actually used to be a part of China.”

Soooooo.......It's being reported that the FBI used that infamous Trump dossier to justify surveillance on Carter Page (and others?). You know, the same dossier where everything not already discredited is completely unverifiable. The same dossier funded by the Clinton campaign for opposition research.

So we have Clinton indirectly manufacturing evidence, by way of a foreign agent, that Obama used to justify spying on a political opponent...THIS is treason.

Just imagine if W/McCain had done this to Obama. I was going to ask why the left is absolutely silent about this alarming abuse of power, but then I realized you can't have socialism/communism without having a police state.

    Investigate both.

They absolutely should, and appear to be doing so.

If for no other reason than to exonerate the Trump administration of any impropriety or wrong-doing. But more and more this has the look and smell of collusion between liberal media and Obama/Clinton to manufacture fake news for the purpose of smearing a political opponent.

I hope SOMEONE goes to jail for a very long time.

Here's one of the problems I've always had with the collusion argument: Trump is that close, but still won't reach into his deep wallet to put his campaign over the top....and instead of a television ad blitz risks treason for something very likely far more marginal and uncertain?

And to think that corrupt bitch was within a whisker of the WH. As for obama, I continue to enjoy seeing his marxist policies being eviscerated on a daily basis.

Border wall isn't going to happen.

Another Trump failure. When does the winning start?

    The border was was stupid.

However, this is just another thing where the narrative shifts to whatever makes Trump look bad.

    1. Builds the wall...he's a racist dictator who wants to lock everyone but white males out of the country.
    2. Doesn't build the wall...he's a liar who can't follow-through on his promises.

Fix the fucking immigration problem by simply enforcing many of the rules we've had on the books for decades and be done with it. I don't care if that's a wall or not.

Both 1 and 2 are the appropriate narratives though. Maybe Trump shouldn't have came up with a shitty idea to build the wall in the first place? And now that the Wall isn't going to be built, we can't call him out on not fulfilling another campaign promise?

    Only on Fox News.

Them there's the breaks when a large part of your campaigning was done to appeal to nationalists who decided the whole immigration concept ran its course THE INSTANT their ancestors got over here.

Then enforce the laws we already have as far as that goes, instead of coming up with a vastly expensive vanity project, so Trump can attach his name to another thing that has little to no benefit for most people.

Finally, the statistical tool of regression can tease apart which had more influence on the 2016 vote: authoritarianism or symbolic racism, after controlling for education, race, ideology, and age. Moving from the 50th to the 75th percentile in the authoritarian scale made someone about 3 percent more likely to vote for Trump. The same jump on the SRS scale made someone 20 percent more likely to vote for Trump.

Racial attitudes made a bigger difference in electing Trump than authoritarianism.
