“Tom Marino is a four-term Republican member of the House who represents a district in northeastern Pennsylvania that has been hard-hit by the opioid crisis. Yet Marino also has been a friend on Capitol Hill of the giant drug companies that distribute the pain pills that have wreaked so much devastation around the nation.
Marino was the chief advocate of the Ensuring Patient Access and Effective Drug Enforcement Act, which requires the government to meet a higher bar before taking certain enforcement actions.
The Drug Enforcement Administration fought against the bill for years, but finally relented last year after a leadership change at the agency. Marino is now President Trump’s nominee to become the nation’s next drug czar.
The new law makes it virtually impossible for the DEA to freeze suspicious narcotic shipments from the companies, according to internal agency and Justice Department documents and an independent assessment by the DEA’s chief administrative law judge in a soon-to-be-published law review article. That powerful tool had allowed the agency to immediately prevent drugs from reaching the street.

The law was the crowning achievement of a multifaceted campaign by the drug industry to weaken aggressive DEA enforcement efforts against drug distribution companies that were supplying corrupt doctors and pharmacists who peddled narcotics to the black market. The industry worked behind the scenes with lobbyists and key members of Congress, pouring more than a million dollars into their election campaigns.
Political action committees representing the industry contributed at least $1.5 million to the 23 lawmakers who sponsored or co-sponsored four versions of the bill, including nearly $100,000 to Marino. Overall, the drug industry spent $106 million lobbying Congress on the bill and other legislation between 2014 and 2016, according to lobbying reports.

    No.
    No.
“We will never fix a rigged system by relying on the people who rigged it in the first place.” Donald Trump. Representative Marino rigged the system to allow the drug companies to flood society with opioids. And for this Trump rewards him with appointment as head of the DEA.

the main problem with the system is that political hacks do this crap because people like you are going to vote for them anyway

Can Trump just keep his mouth shut? Can he just not have some stupidass comment about everything and/or nothing? FFS

Also, the same questions for Hillary. As much as I can't stand Trump, I can't stand her. Like Trump, every day she comes out with something even more moronic than she said before.

At this point I kinda hope that Trump and Clinton both divorce their spouses and hookup.

then you would be responsible for sending this into the world

I think a lot of people are starting to catch-on that he uses it as much for distraction, as anything. He and McDonnell out there yesterday apologizing for not getting anything done the first year....

    Yeah, that was fucking pathetic.

To be fair, it's about 4-5 people standing in the way of a lot of things. Which I have no real issue with - 100% partisan support is basically the most terrible, reckless legislation you'll see. I don't know how the Dems do it, but Pelosi and Reid were pretty ruthless in punishing people who don't play ball. Those two, more than anyone, killed bipartisanship in Washington.

    LOL
“If you look at President Obama and other presidents, most of them didn’t make calls, a lot of them didn’t make calls,” Trump said in a press conference. “I would like to make that call. I’m going to be calling them. But did they ever think to call me first? Why do I have to be the first one to call?”

And the reality is, it's probably better not to call than to call and tell the widow that her husband knew what he was getting into.

That was a LOT of words to say, "Others haven't called. I'm going to call."

    I thought I was longwinded.

It just continues to add to the hilarity that he's actually the POTUS. He's always all "rah rah, USA! Military!"

Then at time when he needs to be solemn and not act like a fuckstick, he goes total fuckstick. Par for the course.

    He's an amazing baffoon.

People like to say W was stupid, but I'm pretty sure he had above average intelligence. I'm pretty sure Trump has below average intelligence. Don't think his two sons are all that bright, either.

Not that you'd ever get a fair assessment. The man is such a blowhard that he attracts all the attention.

Say what you want about Senator McCain but I agree with him 100% on this. One of my biggest complaints about President Trump is that it burns me up for him to be commander and chief of the armed forces. I know it comes with the job but it still sucks.

It's beneath McCain in every way to stoop to Trump's level. It's too bad...

Is it really stooping to Trump's level or is it someone finally having the balls to call out Trump and his bs?

Depends. If it was calling Clinton out on his BS when people took him to task for dodging the draft, then this can be as well.

I don't remember Clinton saying POWs weren't heroes because they were captured. I don't remember Clinton saying he knew more than our Generals. I don't remember Clinton getting into a twitter war with the widow of a fallen serviceman. Big difference.

    So wait ...

Are we referring to them dodging the draft or the sum total of all of their administrations?

I was merely referring to him jabbing at the draft dodging, and it sounded like that was what you were talking about as well. Apparently, you don't want to talk about that part anymore?

My bad. I agree with Senator McCain that the draft should have been set up more equally across all economic lines. I understand the draft dodging as taking advantage of the loopholes that existed. The loopholes were just more available to the higher income populace. I am more concerned with a draft dodger disrespecting those who have and are now serving in the military.
