    no, how bout you?

I did not but I had a father who did and a child who is at a service academy with plans to serve after their degree. The Surgeon General can be pretty influential on a variety of issues...some that were highlighted throughout the recent election campaign.

I can see how the vast majority of people wouldn't really care who the Surgeon General is. Those in the military and especially officers certainly do. That's why when the question was asked who would care, I answered those in the military. Thought it would be surprising if you served and didn't see much of an impact on what the SG does.

Nope never did. My father was in the army during Vietnam too. And that's cool about your son. Which academy?

Again, serious question - is he/she responsible for the dreadful medical care our veterans receive?

There's really only one service academy in our house and it's on the east coast. ;)

Well that narrows it down to 2.

    Three, actually.

Responsible?? I would say that probably yes, they would be. He/she holds supervisory responsibility over Public Health Service Commissioned Corps activities.

    A river bank ain't a coast.

...and it's sad that the Coast Guard and Merchant Marine aren't often mentioned/thought of on my part when referring to the bigger academies. My son is in his plebe year at the USNA.

I guess 4 actually. I usually only consider Air Force, Army, and Navy.. but Coast Guard and Merchant Marine are on the East Coast too.

I might actually respect him more for this. Regardless of the administration, it's nice to see someone turn down a cabinet position, assuming it was on principle.

He'd have to stay in the cupboard.

I don't mind someone being diplomatic and not calling a portion of the population "lunatics," though I think the anti-vaccination movement has potentially dangerous consequences (assuming it grows large enough to have a widespread effect). Did he espouse the anti-vax position? Refuse to come out against it? Or just not to a strong enough degree?

I'm not sure if Trump is just taking his time or has no idea what the hell he is doing.
Today, the DOD stated they have not been contacted at all about the transition.

I would have rather Dr. Carson become Education Secretary; of course, maybe we are going to do away with the federal Department of Education; which would be fantastic.

We can only hope that welfare benefits become as hard to get as VA benefits.

He was asked at the debate, as a doctor, his opinion of vaccinations. He basically said something, paraphrasing, that people should make up their own minds about these issues and make the best choice for their family.

There's one study, a study which the researcher came out and said it was an awful study, that shows a link between autism and vaccines. Ben Carson had an opportunity to crush this harmful idea and he completely failed.

    It's the latter. Book it.

What I read was that Dr. Carson was not interesting in serving in his cabinet at all.
"Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson has told President-elect Donald Trump that he isn't interested in serving as secretary of Health and Human Services, a Carson ally confirmed to The Hill on Tuesday.
Business manager and close friend Armstrong Williams said Carson won't join the incoming Trump administration and would only serve as an unofficial adviser. "

That was from The Hill also.

Blame the new transition coordinator, VP elect.

Yes let's appoint an Education head who thinks the Pyramids were built to store grain and that the Earth is only 4,000 years old.

We already have a climate change denier non-scientist leading the EPA and an anti-Semitic white nationalist as Chief of Staff. Why not go for the trifecta of morons in office?

Tell me what all this people have in common with Donald Trump:

    Newt Gingrich
    Rudy Guiliani
    Ann Coulter
    Ben Carson
    Steve Bannon
    Linda McMahon
    Chris Christie
Congratulations. For some they need to be on the other side of the coin to begin to understand what it all actually means.

    Yeah, I saw that.
Seems like the whole Christie thing has totally screwed them so far.
Still, the fact the DOD has not been contacted at all is not a good look.
But, we are only just a week since the election.

Okay, then I agree with you. I'm glad he's not going to be in the Cabinet.

We don't need an education head because we don't need the federal Department of Education. Return it to the states, now.

And we don't need a First Lady dictating school lunch menus from Washington D.C., either.
