You ate allowed to own firearms in Ukraine. There are some restrictions but this isn't a country where guns are banned. Ukraine's government has made some poor choices but it has absolutely nothing to do with their gun laws unlike what Belly said.

I think it's fair in this situation to say "Fuck the police".
  • majorspark
    Yeah fuck the police.

^have you been keeping up with this story at all? The American media won't air this story, so it's easy to see how one could look at a citizen throwing a molotov cocktail at a police officer and think they are bad people, but try reading up on what the Ukrainian government is doing to their people, then let us know if you still don't say "fuck the police".

    This is pretty crazy.

Why the hell are the media outlets not running this more?

Because it has nothing to do with a celebrity pop-star, a Republican's scandal, or white girls disappearing.

Makes me wonder if the police are part of the goverment, or if they are truly trying to keep peace and are ordinary citizens like the ones attacking them. I think police in the US are often put in bad spots, because people tend to act out on them for doing their jobs, and the people who make up the police force aren't taking a side.

The "they're normal people trying to provide for their families" argument is a valid one until certain points. One of those points is throwing molotovs at citizens, at that point you're actively participating in the type of thing that makes people need to protest in the first place.

Correct. Guess I was referring to before that point. :)

However, if they truly are regular citizens, I'm sure they would get worn down to the point of retaliating. Human emotion can only take so much.
  • SportsAndLady
From my very small understanding of it, they are not your normal cops. They are government police almost. Like our national guard, if our national guard were entirely corrupt.

Here's the Ukrainian police...ordinary citizens, just trying to keep the peace

Bieber getting arrested was clearly the most important story of the day.
  • SportsAndLady
    The police are called "berkut"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berkut_(Ukraine)

They are getting paid more to "eliminate the protesters"

Yeah, this needs more airtime. I'm so tired of the US news sources.

I seriously hope whoever thinks this is news gets a minor injury today. I'm tired of celebrity gossip being covered by any news source that considers itself respectable. TMZ and such ... sure. That's what they cover. But the other outlets ought to be ashamed of themselves if they're covering this kind of thing.
