Why do you hate corporations?

  Then gosh a ruddies what happened. Corporation arose. They worked men, women and children 6-7 days a week, 14 hours a day for next to nothing. They threw old and injured workers to the wayside. They operated in unbelievably dangerous factories and businesses. They sold customers products that were dangerous and sometimes deadly.

  gosh they had no choice. as the country was settled there was no longer enough land to support the farm population and also millions of immigrants had no land to farm.

  I do not hate corporations but I would rather buy local than from corporations. I would prefer to get produce from the farmers market, eat at the mom and pop restaurants, and shop at smaller independent stores.

  families were too large for all the members to stay on the land, going into the factories was the choice available to that population surplus. Immigrants came to America, most of them very poor and had no choice but go into the factories.

  People make decisions that have ramifications. No one took farms from families. If they got to large for the farm it wasn't because of corporations.
  
  When immigrants came to the US it wasn't because corporations forced them to. Businesses don't owe people anything other than the paycheck the employee agreed to work for after and they finish the job.
  
  Blaming corporations for families outgrowing farms and immigrants working in poor conditions completely absolves people form the decisions they themselves make, That's ridiculous. Those people chose poorly.

  thank you for reenforcing my point about corporations being soulless. These corporations took advantage of people who had no choice. They worked them 14 hours a day in unbelievable dangerous conditions. When they had crippled them or broken their health, the workers were thrown on the ash heap with no job or benefits. And they did this to men, women and children. We rightfully condemn Penn State for the damage they allowed to happen to children. Corporations wrecked the lives of untold children.

  People always have a choice. Those people chose poorly. There are consequences to your choices. Blaming a corporation for not giving people a way out of their poor choices is laughable.

  Like nearly always Trey and Matt nail it. People hate corporations because they don't know anything about them and they are told by more people who don't understand them that they are evil. Your hospital is a corporation. Your church may be incorporated, or at least hold property in corporate form. Every business you buy anything or sell to is incorporated in some fashion. A corporation, or partnership, or LLC, or sole proprietorship is a way to separate your entity from your person for purposes of liability and taxation, among other matters. If it weren't for corporate entities we'd all be farmers bartering in the public square like it was 1650.

  I got news for you, that mom and pop restaurant is incorporated, so is the independent store. And if the farmer has any real sort of revenue it's a incorporated as well.

  a Hobson's choice. Soulless corporations exploited people with no good alternatives. Millions of men, women and children were horribly exploited to their enduring detriment. Then the government intervened to provide protection for these victims of corporate greed.

  Those people chose poorly and put themselves in the position of being reliant on others. There are ramifications to the choices we make.

  Those choices weren't necessarily good. They put themselves in position for their farms to become too small for themselves or for them tp become dependent on corporations. They chose poorly.
  
  Life doesn't always work out. People don't always get the good ending. Others are not responsible for making the good ending happen for you.

  They did not put themselves in the position for their farms to be too small. Improved medical procedures caused more people to survive, so more and more children of farm families reached adulthood. The end of the frontier limited land availability. Increased mechanization decreased the need for farm labor. Millions had no choice but to leave farming. We do consider ourselves responsible for not exploiting the intolerable situation of others, unless course the exploiters are soulless corporations.

  People have complete control over their reproductive frequency. People even today need not engage for food, clothing and shelter with a corporation. becoming dependent on such entities leaves one at the mercy of others. That's not always going to be good choice.
  
  Companies are not responsible for position your family for success. You are. If you fail it's not a company's fault.
