no one needed to work for a corporation
1. limit procreation on the family farms so that the farm could provide enough to sustain living
2. Do not immigrate to the US.
3. leave the major metropolitan area seeking out land to live off of.

children are not responsible for their parents procreation decisions. Corporations advertised encouraging immigration and promising much. millions lacked the skill or resources to leave the metropolitan area or to farm and land was rising in price and diminishing in availability.Con_Alma;1228659 wrote:no one needed to work for a corporation

Responsibility wasn't never mentioned in my post with regards to procreation. That doesn't mean the through choice, ramifications unfolded. Procreation was one of them. They did have choices. We are not restricted with regards to residency in this country.isadore;1229048 wrote:they had no choice, they were presented with the problem of overpopulation.
There are always choices. People don't always like those choices.

if you have no money, no applicable skills and no support system you have no choice.Con_Alma;1229051 wrote:They did have choices. We are not restricted with regards to residency in this country.

I disagree.isadore;1229126 wrote:if you have no money, no applicable skills and no support system you have no choice.
You don't need money. For example, my grandparents didn't know how they were going to eat each day the woke up. They had nothing and yet they traveld from the East Coast to Ohio...sometimes by simply walking. While bringing a child who was old 1 year old....my father.
There's always a choice. Those people made their decision and it turned out to be a poor one when considering they place the security of their family in someone elses hands. -

again your family's history is both interesting and admireable but it is not definitive for the life choices of million of others. Support system, family situation, skill level for millions of others was not the same. they had no real choices but the factory.Con_Alma;1229166 wrote:I disagree.

It's not definitive...it's an example. Everyone had a choice ...either leave or stay. It doesn't' take skill or money. All it takes is a decision. a choice between starving and working for a corporation because of a lack of skill, money or support.Con_Alma;1229633 wrote:It's not definitive...it's an example. Everyone had a choice ...either leave or stay. It doesn't' take skill or money. All it takes is a decision. They chose poorly. -

Well, I guess that's one choice.isadore;1229685 wrote:a choice between starving and working for a corporation because of a lack of skill, money or support.
Another is leaving the metropolitan area and finding land to provide for your family.
Many people did, without money, education or even the language of English on their side.
Those people who chose to put their security in a corporation chose poorly. -
isadoreyou are right that working for a soulless exploitive entity is not a good choice, but they were in a hobsonian situation with no other real choice. they lacked the skills or the support necessary for other suggested but for them impossible alternatives. so they used the political process to better their and others situation v these exploitive entities.

I've been saying that all along. They chose poorly.isadore;1229808 wrote:you are right that working for a soulless exploitive entity is not a good choice...
Even without support, resources and skills, they still had options. They weren't easy options.

gosh a ruddies I am glad we agree on the soulless exploitation of the soulless, conscienceless entities known as corporations. When you add all those lacks together millions had no real alternative to work for corporations in the post bellum era.Con_Alma;1229943 wrote:I've been saying that all along. They chose poorly.

Con_AlmaEveryone has an alternative. They choose not to act on them. No one has to ever work for a corporation. People choose to. Often times it's a poor choice.

I disagree. Everyone had the choice to leave the city. Everyone.isadore;1230410 wrote:they had one other real choice, starvation. they choice was not to starve.
All people can produce food on land and support them selves. People need not put their security in the hands of a company. They chose to stay.

no they can not. they had no choice. Gosh without support and advise I sure could get land to produce the food to support myself. most people in our society right now could not get land to produce the food to support themselves. I lack the skills as many do. Many others lack the resources to acquire land.Con_Alma;1230414 wrote:I disagree. Everyone had the choice to leave the city. Everyone.

Con_AlmaWhen you are hungry you learn quickley. I have exampels whereby people who didn't speak english, and had no money travled significant distances to find land and produce food to support their families. It was an option to anyone and everyone. no one was ketp from doing so. Staying in cities and working for a corporatin qas alos an option. Some people chose to do that.
They chose poorly. -
isadoreI know you like to bring up the example of your admireable ancestor but it is not applicable to the experience of millions of others who had no real choice but starvation. Oh you don't learn those skills quickly without support.

Con_AlmaMaybe you didn't read the sentence very clearly. I have example(s).
When people need the basics of life for survival, they are capable of miraculous things. The seek out others. they band together and travel and move about to find what they need. No one was made to move to the city. No one was forced to stayi n the city. People had choices.
Some chose poorly. -

so you have a few that band together and share knowledge and resources because they lack the knowledge and resources on their own. For millions of others they also lacked the skills and resources. And they did not have the situation that allowed them to band together in a way to support themselves.Con_Alma;1230433 wrote:Maybe you didn't read the sentence very clearly. I have example(s).

No one had the skills and resources. No one. Some chose to create their own security. Others didn't. They chose poorly.
