Lottery proceeds reduce the amount which comes out of total State revenues from other sources that is applied to school funding.

I applaud those communities who choose to control their own educational process and do not accept State dollars. God bless them. I stll submit the number must be minimal.

i thought the final trial was in 2003 or so after numerous appeals and delays....but either way it is surprising they have not came up with a solution in 14 years

I guess autos are more important than police, firefighters, teachers and the like.

Maybe we can fund education and hold a bake sale for GM.....

That isn't the topic, if it was I'd make my thoughts known. I'm never buying a GM car again, even if I technically own a piece of the company.

If I wasn't committed to where I live, I'd be seeking them out.

IMO, it does not matter that this is not an annual number (it is not), but that is a crap-ton of money to heap on a private enterprise by a public government (read: you and me) that can afford to pay each of their employees an additional $4,000 bonus.

Oh I completely agree. As I said at the end of that post, it's no less horseshit. I'm just saying I think that the lack of continuity, as well as the lack of a Hatfield-McCoy history, is probably why fewer people are up in arms about it.

really cool website - curious if you know of specific examples of schools in Ohio rejecting state funding though? too many districts to go through and look at individually, but I did notice that the wealthy districts in columbus (arlington and bexley) take state funding, just a much lower percentage of their total spending is coming from the state

    No man, no way.

If you aren't willing to provide the same service, you shouldn't sit for the bar. You can't half-ass legal representation. If you do it, you do it right. It doesn't matter if (i) the client is pro bono, (ii) the client is paying a fixed fee, (iii) the client is paying you by the hour under normal rates, (iv) the client is paying you by the hour for negotiated lower hourly rates, or (v) the client is paying you by the hour for a transactional premium.

I have performed (i)-(v), although in full disclosure (v) hasn't happened since the year 2000. There is no lapse in service....if you can't perform, there are thousands of lawyers that will.

when i get home ill try to find my folder from that class it had a handout about schools who dont take funding...most were in places that were rich or had large amounts of business/factories within their districts.\
and that was based on like 2007-2008 funding it is possible that they now accept funding i should add

At least he was right about this:
Capuano made his remarks before a crowd of union members in Boston, along with other members of the state's congressional delegation. Massachusetts has an influential union population that could loom large over the 2012 Senate race. Capuano is considering getting in that race to challenge Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) next fall.

“This is going to be a struggle at least for the next two years. Let’s be serious about this. They’re not going to back down and we’re not going to back down. This is a struggle for the hearts and minds of America,” Capuano told union members.

People are figuring out what's really behind the public sector unions: http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/why-obama-and-the-dems-blundered-in-wisconsin/
For in the end, the images and messages tell the story. The showdown in Madison pits pampered public employees against hard-pressed taxpayers. It portrays union workers as an angry mob against those seeking orderly legislative deliberation. It paints Democratic lawmakers as outlaws on the run, undermining the democratic process. It launched a national debate about the generous salaries and benefits for government workers during a time of economic shortages. And it showcased school teachers who abandoned their children in favor of narrow, partisan political gain.
Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana- I say to the unions "Keep it up". Let people see what you're really all about.

Democrats in Wisconsin and Indiana are making themselves out to be petulant little children who run away from their responsibilities when they disagree with reality.

Every one of them deserves to be recalled by their constituents for dereliction of duty.

As for bringing in the GM bonuses into this discussion -- I'd rather we not. This topic has enough in it that we don't need to muddy the waters more. Yes, it's a crapload of money and shouldn't be happening, but start another topic on it. Fact is, that money is federal and we're talking about state problems (financial) and local issues (tax monies). Ohio needs to solve its own problems in its own way.

    Off topic..
Is there ever a day that goes by that you don't post on this forum or a forum somewhere?
The question is open for anyone.
    Just curious.

Of course. I tend to go through stretches. I'll be here for a few months, then gone for a few months.

I'm not sure when, but there are days I don't post. And sometimes threads (like this one) make it hard to keep up so I don't bother. I hate posting on a thread when I haven't read the whole thing. I always end up repeating something someone else said and they everyone will come on and bust your balls. :)
