The unions themselves could have prevented some layoffs had they been willing to adjust their rich benefits. In Milwaukee, for example, nearly all of the 500 teacher layoffs announced earlier this year could have been avoided if the unions had agreed to change health plans that cost $23,000 per teacher per year for family coverage. They could have accepted a still-rich $17,000 plan. The unions chose the layoffs, betting (correctly) that Democrats in Washington would come to their rescue.
First the UAW...now the teachers unions. Gotta get that spending in now because November isn't going to be pretty for the Dems.

Change the word, "emergency funds" to "crack", and these elitists would be thrown in jail as pushers. That's what this money really is...dope for the unions so that they don't have to make hard choices. Just keep on keepin on and give 'em more of that morphine known as money.

    Yep, Quaker...makes me sick.

I thought it sucked and spoke out against it.

This...and I was also not pleased with George HW Bush's savings and loan bailout of 1986. I also disagreed with Carter's bailout of Chrysler in 1979.

    Next question?

    YOU ARE CLEARLY LYING!!!!!!!

    :P

While not you two I do think there are people that make a big deal out of things now that they let slide when their man was in office (not even necessarily on this site just in general). Of course this works both ways and I'm probably guilty of doing it at times though I really try not to. Oh well. /anecdote.

Quaker is da man. I get sick reading the blame Bush and blame Clinton crap. We have real problems today and casting blame on the past is not helping fix what ails us.

Fewer Jobs, Larger Deficits if Republicans Were in Charge
Newsweek notes that nothing is apparently more important to Republican politicians these days than jobs and the budget deficit, but there's a problem with their message: "So far, the things that Republicans have said they want to do won't actually boost employment or reduce deficits. In fact, much the opposite. By combing through a variety of studies and projections from nonpartisan economic sources, we here at Gaggle headquarters have found that if Republicans were in charge from January 2009 onward -- and if they were now given carte blanche to enact the proposals they want to -- the projected 2010-2020 deficits would be larger than they are under Obama, and fewer people would probably be employed."

Tell you what, let's vote the DEMs out in '10 and '12 and see if Newsweek (i.e., the company that is so horrible the Washington Post sold it for a dollar) and Gaggle are correct.

Sorry...but that's not going to happen

Well, we're all going to be sorry then, I don't know about you but I've had about as much hope and change as I can stand, seeing all the foreclosures in the neighborhood, getting resumes from people grossly overqualified for any possible job I could hire them for, and just the sheer disgust and sense of despair I get just walking around seeing a dying culture that our political class coudn't possiby care about given that we fund their lobster dinners and fat pensions. We're a dying country.

You couldn't be any more wrong about people not caring....but gotta stick to the Republican script

How am I wrong? Is Obama sending lobster to his poor inner city followers living paycheck to paycheck (if that) from Martha's Vineyard? The guy is a ruse, an emperor without clothing. How the DEMS picked him over Hillary is beyond me. With him, Pelosi and Reid we have the most out of touch, tone deaf leadership in my lifetime. Obama has practically handed the House to the GOP with his aloofness. This isn't talking points, his administration has stunk so far, for a supposedly smart guy (Columbia grad, Harvard law review) he has shown a complete lack of judgment and ability to govern.

What's the phrase? "Its the economy, stupid." Yeah it is, Obama ran on a platform addressing it, and isn't delivering. Romer has already resigned. I woudn't be surprised if Geithner resigns if the GOP takes the House. It is a failing administration, and his reckless policies are putting us in a debt situation that is a multiple of the previous administration's policies.

If his administration if failing....why has he gotten down just about everything done(sane energy policy) that he has wanted....all since Scott Brown took office in Mass???

Do you really want to start the intelligence arguement MB??

Why didn't Bush send steak from Crawford to the inner-city when he was on vacation?? Why wasn't he in NO every two weeks after Katrina? Why did he just sit there for seven minutes after learning of 9/11?

With Obama yeah, if he's that smart, why is he acting so stupidly?

The guy made a lot of people look like fools, including many in my neighborhood that had the bumper stickers and front stoop signs supporting him. They are all gone. He has two more years to turn it around and for the country's sake I hope we can stop the fiscal disaster that is looming. He doesn't even seem to care. I'm not the only person being critical...even the "liberal" media outlets are starting to question the country's direction.
