Wayne County area Wrestling 2009-10
-
Red RumJust eyeballed the winter program and it's going to be an interesting year.
Still a little bummed for Dalton with Keyes opting out. Overall numbers in the WCAL appear to be up and the heavier weights look especially competitive.
I know it's a little early to start whinning but....
the Ashland Preview would be about a thousand times better if the big guns knocked heads early. Don't get me wrong, some great matchups like Grier-Spreng, Drake-Ferber, Hershey-Oney, etc. As a WCAL fan I'd love to see J.Beam & K.Schaefer mix it up early. Also, nothing against Endicott but I would rather see Flinner vs Richards, possibly a preview of the sectional championship.
My insignificant complaints aside, it will be a great evening of wrestling. Kudos to the people who put it together. -
1_beastWill be a good night of wrestling. Would like to see the early Beam - Schafer match too.
Interesting, reading the preview, Smithville return a lot from their 3rd place finish, Northwestern and there 5 returning Champs are coming of age, Norwaynes numbers are up with some sound experience and solid freshman class, Osting projecting the Chipps As "the best team in the league" predicting a 1st or 2nd finish.
Then you have the Bears...overall numbers are down....nice middle-upperweights, hurting in the lower weights. Bullseye placed right on our backs....Thanks Doc! -
WildbearWho knows...they may not even match up(beam-schafer). Or it could be 4 times! Hey 1_beast, how about a round robin with ol' man Hall? I think he can still kick Bryson's butt. Judging by that Doylestown/chippewa pict pretty formidable bunch! Good luck to all the Wayne County teams...alot of good looking teams. Can't wait to get started.
-
Red RumBold statement by Osting. Gotta love it. If you don't believe in yourself, nobody else will. Once he gets the team to believe, that is when they'll truly become contenders.
It's gonna be an interesting year. -
1_beastWell Red Rum, they do have a solid lineup in Doylestown. Look at the other site, I did say they will be strong and a team to lookout for, but everytime I try to warn you guys you think im bullshitting. Look at my avatar, NO BULLSHIT!!! With the level of are teams this year...I just cant see labeling the Bears as favorites....its anyone of 4 teams titles....parity has surfaced in the league!
-
Red RumBeast,
Doylestown has to prove they're a contender first. It will take more than Hall & Schfrath to win county. They need breakout seasons from at least 4 or 5 other wrestlers to contend. Maybe they can do it, maybe not...either way Osting has them headed in the right direction.
Norwayne also needs some guys to come up big to support Grier, Bouman & Richards. They will probably be several wrestlers short of a full lineup, much better than last year but still not enough to take county in 2010. I also noticed Ritzman (171 last year) isn't mentioned.
Northwestern will contend....or will go down swinging. Goal is always "Title or Bust"
Waynedale still has a state runnerup and 6 or 7 district qualifiers. No one else has that much experience returning. 21 people on the roster probably means a full team. Add that all together and it spells............Favorite.
I agree that parity is coming, I'm just not sure it has arrived. -

underoverthrowIf pairity is 1/2 the teams with a chance then its still kinda sad.
-
falcon81Beast, How did certification go for you guys ? Any surprises? How about the rest of Wayne county?

Hydration went about as well as expected....just one or 2 guys we wanted lower but....just not enough body fat. Guess they lifted too much in the offseason. Overall we're pleased...but would of like to had the 2 guys the opportunity to drop if they wished. Im not going to throw out names, its all good. How bout everyonee else???
Looking fwd to the AshlaND preview -
mompovKeyes is back, decided Saturday morning.
-
Wildbear
Good to hear that! I predict the Bears go 4 and 2 tonight at preview. Not saying just who but anyways.mompov wrote: Keyes is back, decided Saturday morning. -

Hopefully he can wrestle this week at the Hillsdale Invite.mompov wrote: Keyes is back, decided Saturday morning. -
titan_wrestlerLooks like Waynedale is ready to start the season..Got back from the ashland preview and the Bears were impressive. Grier/Sprange match was a lot of fun to watch. Can't wait for the season to begin
-
WildbearYeah..so much for my math. Bears actually go 6 and one. Harter, Widder, Siegle looked on track for a great season.

DETAILS...I NEED DETAILS!!! I wasnt able to make it.Wildbear wrote: Yeah..so much for my math. Bears actually go 6 and one. Harter, Widder, Siegle looked on track for a great season. -
Red RumDon't have alot of info...but this is what I got out of the Ashland TG...
Spreng beat Grier 4-2
Zebulon beat Nick Hall 4-0
Schaefer beat Luke Weber 6-0
Endicott over Flinner in OT
Peyton Oney beat Logan Hershey 2-0
Anthony Ferber beat Cole Drake 8-4
Brett Fortune won 2-0
Nuendorf got pinned
Alex Tuttle of Loudonville lost
Once again, Ashland TG is source of info. I'd rather hear results from someone who was there. No offense to TG staff, but I doubt the unnamed reporter knows (or cares) about the difference between an escape and a takedown. -
Red RumAlmost forgot,
It's nice to see the old JJ crew (onedawg,mompov,underoverthrow,falcon81,etc) on here. I wondered where everyone went. Where's Firemans4Five? Awful quiet lately.
Congrats to the Beast on being banned over at JJ. I knew you could do it. -
firemans4fiveI am here, I just dont have much to say. I know Northwesterns season starts on Saturday at the Ashland Bookmasters. The team had some weight issues, so I do not think that their lineup will be at full strength.
-
falcon81The twins and I went over after practice. It was a nice little event. We noticed alot of those matches would have probably went the other way with 2 min. periods. Alot of running and stalling with only 1 min. periods but it was worth the drive and it was nice seeing some old wrestling friends .The Grier /Spring match was The best of the night, down to the wire. The Oberhalt/Fortune match was also close .The Beams looked tough although Zeb struggled a little more than I thought he would,Widder also looked solid. Hopefully Waynedale and Tuslaw will face off saturday in the finals at the Creastview duals.
-
falcon81BTW. Beast got kicked off JJ? For what? How did i miss that on Fox News?
-
mt1514Smithville preview with Chippewa,Akron North,Garaway last Saturday went ok.
Bryson Hall and Shafrath looked as expected, with others looking ready for the test. Hannah struggled badly,if she is not able to get to the weight she was last year, she may struggle alot.
A few Smithies looked good Tanner being the bright spot, with a few others showing good promise. Time will tell for the Smithies. -
WildbearI was thinking the same about Zeb. He got the job done but seemed thrown around alot. Nick Hall has deceptive strength and bright future for Crestview. His brother looked ready to roll..good stance, takedowns with a 6 or 8-2 match win. I think Zeb was in the tree stand too long Monday!
-
rtherthrwyathnknwyaAgreed falcon81. If the beast got the boot, enquiring minds want details.
I felt the preview lacked sizzle. It may be format. The 1-1-1 did allow for alot of running and (I love you Bill) we didn't exactly have an authority on stalling wearing the stripes. I think we need to get Bill some help, the man goes, what, 20? matches with no break, no checking into the table and a few confused folks working the table. He did an excellent job! I'm just a jerk with a pet peeve for stalling.
That being said I am very greatful to all who volunteered time and effort to put this on. We are a close community and getting us together like this is great. I noticed several great displays of sportsmanship on and off the mat. These boys are a credit to our community.
Questions:
Why was Grier wearing a mask?
What weight is Overholt going?
Why were there certain toughguys who decided to go without headgear?
Can high schools duals do the light over the mat thing like that? -
Red Rumfalcon & throw ya,
last time I was on JJ, I noticed that where it used to say "huddle legend" under Beasts name, it now says "Banned"
I am also dying to hear the story.
Where ya at Beast!!!!
