First positive test in Ohio for someone who hadn't traveled or been around anyone who tested positive. Looks like Dewine is going to start ordering large events to have no fans (MAC tourney in Cleveland), possibly NCAA tournament games.

Stark county.  I was just at Mercy hospital on 2/26 for my annual appointment with the heart doc.  I travel to Stark county quite often as my son's family lives there and my wife's brother just passed away and we are working on getting his house ready to sell which is in Stark county.

I’m hearing DeWine’s health department is going to issue an order banning all public gatherings.

Seattle closing public schools. That'll fuck some stuff up.

Trump supposedly speaking again tonight on it.

Supposedly, Italy is running out of ICU beds and is going to have to start picking who lives and who doesn't. Luckily, the US has the most ICU beds per 100,000 by a lot

Ivy League has cancelled all spring sports. Individual institutions can decide on how they want to finish their winter sport seasons.

That's going to be weird.  It's gotta have a huge impact on performance, I'd think.  The small school underdog won't get that boost from the fans.

I wonder if the broadcasts are going to overlay some sort of fan soundtrack?  It would be surreal to watch the games without that background noise.

Guess I'll be finding out next week when my friends and I have our annual "get shitfaced and watch basketball for four days" get-together. It definitely seems like it'll be very weird to hear announcers and watch players while not seeing or hearing anything else. I'd guess if things got too weird, we'd go with music for audio and watch the games on mute, but I'd rather it didn't come down to that because I always get put in charge of that and I'd rather focus on watching games and cursing my bracket.

Have to think it's also going to have an impact on those working these events (concessions, etc). Was thinking about this earlier and if it continues to escalate, how will this effect those that work in the service industry (waiters, waitresses) that rely on tips. Will they start shutting down eating establishments where larger groups might sit down to eat?

There is a case in Warren, Ohio too.

So Trump just banned all flights from Europe for 30 days (other than the UK). If that includes Cargo that’s gonna be an issue. Gonna suck for people who can’t get refunds back.

Tom Hanks and his wife tested positive.

We have 10 days before we leave for Costa Rica.  Shit better not get fucking canceled! Our trip insurance covers our hotel in the event of a canceled flight.  I doubt it will cover our govt. saying we can't go.

Looks like not Cargo and only foreign nationals, not US citizens.

US citizens and permanent residents will, from the sound of it, possibly have to be filtered through specific airports with controlled screening before re-entry, but yeah, it does sound like they'll be able to get home.

This is going to get much worse before it gets any better. Sorry man but I wouldn’t plan on taking that trip.

That's a very relative, and ultimately useless, statement.  I think we'd all agree 100X more cases is "much worse", but that would still be less than about 0.03% of the population.  And of those, maybe 0.3% would die.....meaning this probably won't kill as many people as the flu does every year.

The contagious factor and mortality rate are perhaps high enough to justify all this.  This is definitely worse than the flu in that respect, but maybe not all that much.  And many, many people still aren't bothered to get flu vaccinations.  I think this is a gross overreaction, and less about politics and more about a newscycle that is searching for Armageddon around every disaster.

Right, billion dollar organizations are making decisions based on the news cycle. Have you even listened to an expert speak on the subject?
