i know you're saying grade schools bc parents need to work.. but if you're focusing on transmission, grade schools cant stay open. They're petri dishes.

That's my point.  Healthy people self-quarantining doesn't do shit.  It's all or nothing - quarantines have to be mandated by the govt.

Closing your doors accomplishes nothing if those people don't self-quarantine and stay home.  This thing supposedly survives on surfaces for up to 9 days.  I don't think you're changing the risk profile canceling events and large groups.  All you really need is for grocery stores to stay open...

I'll give anyone a bottle of hand sanitizer for five rolls of toilet paper.

The TP hoarding is insane.

No one wants to wipe their ass with gold bullion.  Does anyone know where I can score some Charmin?

This is the one that makes no sense. These kids are going to be drinking and spreading more germs then they would if they were in class.

You still have class and tests. It's just not in person.

I get that, I just don't see how is stops anything from spreading. Wipe the desks down after class and have hand sanitizer in the rooms. The kids aren't going to quarantine themselves all day, they'll still be doing the extracurriculars with each other. Same reason they have mumps outbreaks and shit, it isn't from spreading it in class.

well if you have 50 kids in a room in close proximity, droplets are a big issue.

If I read one more god damn “I woke up with a cough and runny nose should I go get tested” post on twitter or Reddit. That coronavirus daily Reddit thread is torture to read.

My campus has banned school-sponsored out-of-state travel and canceled all out-of-state speakers' seminars.

We've been prepping to take classes online for about 2 weeks and I expect that will happen soon.

Mandatory WFM for me on Thursday and Friday.

Just to test functionality at this time. Looks like I'm lugging a monitor home tonight.

I work from home every Wednesday, and a lot of Friday's if no meetings on the schedule. I wouldn't be upset if we had a period of mandatory work from home.

I should be working from home, but my bosses are major old-fashion type guys. "If you're seen, then that means you're working."

It's such a waste of time in the office. And, as we are starting to see...the whole college system is largely a waste of time as the learning can be done remotely anyway.

That is the worst part about working from home. I have 2 big monitors at work and working on a laptop is awful. My wife also works from home full time, so I'd have to find a different area to work, and probably would annoy the shit out of her.

Wow, Google just recommended all their employees work from home.

Yeah, I have the smaller Macbook Pro. Great for emailing and minor stuff, terrible for anything else.

This will make us rely much more on Slack which I already dislike. No one fucking answers.

Today was the first day I actually noticed less people on my morning commute. Left my apartment at 8:15 which is prime rush hour, got a seat. That never happens.

Have work trips to Kentucky and California, both two weeks long, in the next 60 days, that they have said there is no way they are cancelling.

Yeah, I'd LOVE working from home if I owned a computer with a monitor the size of my work one, as that is more convenient as far as having multiple windows open. But I own a Macbook Pro and think that doing a lot of stuff would be doable, but take longer, simply due to the difference in screen size.

You can get some great VGA monitors in HD (1920x1080) for around $100. If your laptop outputs a VGA/DVI. Could probably also find an HDMI one for similar price.

I had a pretty good set up with my last laptop.  I got identical docking stations at my home office and work office.  I use four monitors at work and had two set up at home.  I could just undock from work with everything I was working on and go home and dock and everything is just as I left it.

Once remodelling of my home office is complete I will have a similar set up.
