Not looking forward to working sporting events with no fans...It’s going to be super weird and feel like it means way less.

Are we really that close to that?  It's hard for me to imagine March Madness still won't sell out.

Can't believe Stanford canceled classes because one professor got the virus.  It's not like the kids are going to self-quarantine - the campus and facilities remain open.

Yes. We’ve already been prepped as to how to cover the games. Media access is restricted, but television won’t be, if it happens.

Italy just cancelled all their sporting events until April 3, and the Euros are in Italy this summer.

NBC has purchased flight cancellation insurance in anticipation of cancelling hundreds of flights to and from the Olympics for employees and contractors.

That's sort of where I was going with my question of Laley - how many more cases do we need before we start seeing sporting events canceled, schools closed, etc...

We've had it in the US for over a few weeks now, and while cases are increasing it doesn't seem like it's priming to spiral out of control.  But I suppose it only takes 1 infected person walking around for a couple weeks infecting a few dozen people....

We fly out of Chicago 22nd.  I can purchase trip insurance up to 48 hours before departure.  Covers flight cancellation and inabilty to travel due to illness.  Thoughts on purchasing the insurance b/c of this shit?  $132 for 4 passengers.

Peace of mind and no hassles might be worth buying the insurance.

But I'd be willing to bet airlines will issue vouchers for canceled flights, if not outright refunds.  Most people probably aren't buying insurance, and it's a PR nightmare if they try to keep the money because of "an act of God".  Major carriers, anyway - if you're on some janky operation like Spirit then I'd buy insurance for sure.

Now your hotel accommodations might be another story, especially if it's just a local/regional chain.  I guess it would depend on their cancellation policy.

Delta is offering waived change fees or flight credit if you cancel.

But, Delta will not let me switch my itinerary for no charge lol.

Scheduled to be in Stamford, CT next Friday-Sunday. NHL test game popped up in Toronto on Thursday night, so I need to be there for that. Then fly from Toronto to NYC on Friday morning, obviously missing my outbound NYC flight from Chicago. I'm sure I could push them a lot harder, but hoping my company wont want to pay the fees and just fly someone else to Toronto instead.

A couple that went on a cruise....

A cruise to Egypt...down the Nile river.

Anyone that takes a cruise to Asia or Africa/Italy regions right now is not using their brain.

So far the US based Cruises on the Caribbean have been fine. Worst thing that has happened was 1 ship had to wait 1 day before landing back in Florida because someone had the flu and the coast guard was making sure it wasn't Coronavirus.

Fast forward to the mid/late summer when this hysteria has calmed down and there won't be any problems sailing in the Caribbean.

My work just came down with the hammer, pretty much cancelling all travel for at least the rest of the month. They have pretty much told us, cancel your events and meetings with clients in person. If possible, do everything via call or video.

My work has cancelled all trips to conferences, meetings, etc where more than just a few people are congregating.

They are fine with single trips to customers still, which is 90% of my travel. So I am still going places.

My wifes law firm has bought brand new laptops for all employees and set up a network for all employees to work from home and still get all legal documents and case loads done from home.

My wife is stoked.

My parents are about to go on a river cruise in Amsterdam in a couple of weeks. Needless to say they're very nervous.

I currently have a cough and everyone looks at me with evil eyes when I cough. I work in tourism, so there is no chance our work will cut travel, when the whole point of the job is to get people to travel here. Going to be interesting if groups start cancelling events, and who loses money bc of it.

Same here except I also have a runny nose and a pounding headache but I always get this when it's rainy/snowy (sinuses). I work in Solon and see where the high school here self-quarantined themselves after being exposed to someone with it.

Berea College in Kentucky has shut down for the rest of the academic year, starting on Friday.

No cases reported. Action is being taken "out of an abundance of caution." All athletic events are cancelled after Thursday.

I watched Outbreak on Monday night in preparation for this pandemic.

What is the youngest death for this pandemic so far?  Cancelling all classes and athletic events for the rest of the year?  Seriously?  Stupid.

Death rate doesn't seem to be the primary issue. It's the spread.

Lots of info here:

Stupid and unnecessary.  Certainly so as long as businesses continue to operate, and the grade schools are still running.

Some sort of lockdown in a town in NY. No one allowed in or out.

Let's just enact martial law nationwide and get it over with.

I'm not overly concerned about my health, nor my husband's or anyone in my close social circle that I see a lot. We're young, healthy, have health insurance, and I'm even more fortunate because I already work remotely. Not everyone is so lucky.

I AM worried about people like my mother, who has COPD, and other elderly and immunocompromised people. I worry about what will happen if it continues spread and we run out of hospital beds. I don't think it's stupid to do everything we can to stop that spread.

i know you're saying grade schools bc parents need to work.. but if you're focusing on transmission, grade schools cant stay open. They're petri dishes.
