Car buying...learn me

Cut ties with the broker. No deals to be had unless I wait 3-4 months. There's a shortage on SUVs, trucks in general. I had to go straight to a dealer that will not work with brokers.

I'll be able to get it for a bit under MSRP. Lots of places are selling for OVER MSRP...and people are paying..it's insane.

I should have it by April 30th, May 10th at latest barring any delays.

Unrelated.... we bought a used GMC Acadia over the weekend from a dealership.

Car market is about as hot as the house market is right now. Crazy stuff.

Bought a 2021 Kia Telluride a couple of months ago. They were leaving the lots about as quickly as they arrived. It was the first vehicle I ever paid sticker for. Sucks in a way, but at least no worrying about whether I got a good deal.

Those are really cool vehicles, my friend has one

The eagle has landed.

A few minor exterior tweaks so far. TRDish grill en route. Other than that done for a while. AT tires before fall.

Only put 100 miles on it so far.

No idea why I can’t figure out to embed pics. Maybe this link will work.

Work is dead. Thought I'd share a little update on "my build" /overlandbro

I've been adding to it regularly since I purchased.

3" Bilstein stage 2 lift and sliders installed yesterday. I decided to go with this before wheels/tires. Looks weird, but rides fucking amazing now. Stock suspension is rather soft and shitty

Bumping this one up.

We are considering trading my wife's car (2016 Crosstrek) in and getting a 2020ish Tacoma for my driver and her taking my Outback. Anyone have experience with the newer Tacoma's? Auto, you still liking the 4runner?

I have a 2017 Tacoma and have nothing but good things to say about it. I got the TRD off road, mainly just for how it looked.

I test drove a '21 Tacoma TRD Off Road. 4door, short bed. I liked it but I chose the 4Runner for 2 reasons. Back seat area is small. I wanted to be able to transport 4 people comfortably. Also, the more I thought about it, I didn't really need the bed. I don't haul stuff THAT much, and if needed I could always borrow my dad's truck.

They are still both very similar vehicles. Rock solid reliability, but dated engine, transmission and overall tech.

The 4R has been sitting for the last few months and just increasing in value. I've put 6k miles on it since I bought it. Zero issues. I can't wait to get back and drive the shit out of it.

We’re mainly looking at trucks for easily hauling our two kayaks. They both don’t fit on my Outback and mine is a little big for the j racks. We took them to a lake yesterday with both cars and it was fine. But seeing people pull up with two in the bed and load/unload in two minutes made me jealous

I also miss my old F150.

We're also considering just buying a $5k or under truck and having 3 vehicles.

If you're going Tacoma, I suggest ordering it or catching one that's on the line and not reserved. You'll wait for it, but avoid MSRP markups on dealer lots.

I'd likely be going used. I'm trying to find something under $30k, which is slim pickings but available.

New wheels/tires coming soon! Took months to get these due to production/shipping delays.

Hoping they fit with minimal modification.

And yeah, my nephew is obsessed with Spider Man. lol

I test drove a Tacoma this afternoon. They had very limited used stock and zero new stock, but I wanted to drive one to make sure I liked it. I want the 6ft bed and they only had the shorter beds.

I liked it so hopefully I’ll find one I like soon.

My dad has a 2002 Tacoma with 126,000 miles and it’s used as a truck for every job he does….that bed has had everything in it and the truck has been best to death. Frame had a huge crack, near break in it. Found a guy to put a new frame on it and he’ll have that thing til he dies. An awesome truck.

My test drive was a 2017 with a V6. Replacing my wife's Crosstrek with a Tacoma makes a lot of sense for us. I'm hoping to find something in the $25-35k range that fits my needs. Local dealerships don't have much, Carvana has a few that might work. I haven't checked Carmax or private sellers yet.

4door with full bed is crazy long imo.

My friend is in the market for a 21-22, 4dr, TRD Off Road. They are out there. You just have to be willing to wait and/or search your ass off. He’s In FL, so calling dealers all over the state. I believe the quickest he could find was one arriving in August, but he’s still waffling over the color.

I don’t think they make whole lot with the 6 foot bed. No offense but I don’t  think I paid more than $35k for my V6 TRD off road dual cab with the 5 foot bed new in 2017. Are the prices really that crazy now?

Prices are insane….which I honestly don’t get.

We have adjusted our plan and will be buying a truck as a third vehicle instead of replacing her car. This drops our budget down to about $15k but I can be a lot less picky since it won't be my daily vehicle.
