Well I’m just using the example given here.. how do you know they don’t believe what they say? Because you disagree with them they are race hustlers? How is that different than what they say about tim scott except you might agree with him?  How is “race hustlers” better than Uncle Tom?

As far as Uncle Tom I don’t have to go too far to defend it, I think it has its place to be used.

By your logic then so does the "n" word then. It has its placed to be used...See how stupid that sounds?

The fact you typed out Uncle Tom and then did not type out the n word shows that you don’t even think they are the same.

But amongst certain people the n word yes it does have its place

I won’t type it out due to respect of others and their reaction to it.

I believe Uncle Tom is basically as bad as the N word.

"guys, guys....eventhough I've said it 20 times myself, just letting you know uncle tom is as bad as the n-word"

also geeblock: "if you don't want to be called an uncle tom, don't act like one"

can you read?  I said clearly its not the same as unlce tom... the fact that you can type out unlcle tom but cant type out the N word tells you that, is what i said.  I also never called him an unlce tom and said i didnt disagree with everything he said. Reading is fundamental.

They are both racist, even if you believe one is "more" racist than the other. That's the point.

My gay friends have terms they use amongst themselves and the terms would be offensive in many situations, i would never use them, but I also wouldn't begin to tell them not to use them or even comment on it.

So back to the idea that you can't have an opinion based on your race, ethnicity, sexual preference, etc?

Identity politics and group think are terrible ideas.

I am not black, but I can also have a valid opinion that Uncle Tom and the N word are both wrong and racist.

I am not a lesbian, but I can pretty definitively say that "dike" is rather wrong no matter who uses it.

I could keep going but you get it, even if you are not part of "that community" there are things that are still objectively wrong and you are still allowed to have a valid opinion.

So you don't see how it breaks down bridges and continues to divide people into race/ethnicity if its "ok" for a group of gay men to call each other "faggots" yet those of us that are not gay would never use that world.

Same for the N word, if black men/women call each other that yet would beat the shit out of a white person for calling them that, do you not see how that divides us?

Either its wrong to call someone these names or it is not, period. Right and wrong is not subjective based on the skin color of the person using the word.

So you do not believe right/wrong is objective, you believe it is subjective?

Is this in general, or just for derogatory words?

I don't feel the words used in those situations have the same meanings that you attribute to them because you are not a part of that community.  Within those communities those words have different meanings and connotations.  So objectively I don't think it is wrong.

That seems rather odd to me. Words have definitions and meanings that are not fluid/changeable they are concrete stay the same.

If I say "green" and you say "green" the word's meaning doesn't change because our skin color is different. Same with all these derogatory terms. The meaning is the same no matter what the color of the skin of the person saying the word.

A black person saying the Whats up "my ni@@er"? (brother/homie/term of endearment) to another black person absolutely has a different meaning than a white person saying "i hate ni@@ers". I guess u have to have certain experiences to understand possibly.  it seems fairly simple to me.

words def have context and different meanings given the situation and person using them.  I do know white people from Kansas City and Junction CIty, Kansas that are from the hood who also use the N word profusely to both white and black people. Because of where they are from and the authenticity of their person, it isnt questioned.  I am a teacher in the inner city middle school and the Asian kids and Mexican kids also routinely use the word.  I have only had 1 white student in the last few years who uses it.

I assumed it was obvious I meant that if a person says “what’s up my n@@gger” it shouldn’t matter if that person is white or black, it should be either wrong for both races or ok for both races.

I can’t believe you truly thought I meant “what’s up my n’er” and “I hate n’ers” meant the same thing. Are you trolling now?

That awkward moment when the guy who just went 0-3 trying to spell uncle tries to call out other people's reading skills.
