Maybe he has allergies.

Yeah, I have an older friend who I was encouraging to wear a mask every time he mows the grass because when he doesn't, the pollen causes him to be miserable (and miserable to be around, with all the "loudly hacking up shit" noise) for hours afterwards.

Man, he is a historian and should know better.

World War I and II were bigger threats and attacks. I would also add in the freaking Cold War and the threat of nuclear annihilation. Those were all more direct threats and attacks. I wouldn't add 9/11 as over time we have seen that was a one time blip that did not overall threaten the destruction of democracy, whereas the two World Wars and the Cold War were over the very concept of democracy and freedom.

When encountering a black republican rebutting Biden’s speexh, the twitter left gets “Uncle Tim” trending. Seems a little racist.

It's simple. Tim Scott didn't vote for Biden, therefor Tim Scott ain't black.

100 days ............ $6 TRILLION in new spending

This is one of the main elements of destroying the country from within.

You're the counterpart to Al Gore. For him, the 10 year countdown until it's too late to reverse global warming has been going on for about 20 years. For you, democrats have been on the precipice of destroying the country for 13 years.

I'm just here for the humor of Quaker remembering he's upset about massive gubment spending after four years of not complaining about it.

It was your typical boring State of the Union/ Address to Congress. I did not watch, only read the speech like I usually do.

One thing Trump and Biden, even Obama, have in common...they like to talk. Damn those things are long.

Thing to remember is normally what a lot of the President says up there on things they want done, rarely do any of them happen.  A lot of his agenda is dead on arrival in the Senate and will not happen.

Definitely neither party cares any more.  Though it continues to be true the Repubs spend a little less and tax a little less.

There was some hope to come back from the Obama budget expansion that exploited the Great Recession to do so.  Still, Trump's deficits were like double where they were when Bush ended (before the recession).

Then Covid comes and Trump blows Obama stimulus out of the water.  Now we get Democrat control, and they just further expand the deficit.  We're just going to barrel recklessly forward as if inflation is permanently dead and the US will allows be able to rely on being the world reserve currency.

Trillion dollar deficits was a bad trend.  Didn't take long to approach $2T+ deficits, and the wheels are going to come off "quick" at that pace.  But if you're in love with European-style governance, THAT is how you get European-style anemic growth and high unemployment.

It's pretty pathetic that the left spends a lot more time to keep blacks from voting Republican than they do actually earning their vote.  That is an actual form of disenfranchisement, but everyone bitches about the petty stuff the right does that hasn't been shown to actually suppress the vote.

I don't know....Seems pretty racist to be so scurred of a black Republican.

The big issue is that both sides are more about calling out the other side's spending and paying lip service to the concept that unlimited spending is bad than, you know, actually not pissing away money like it's unlimited. The Rs are great at mocking the Ds budget allotments, but not so good at not spending insanely themselves and the Ds are great at mocking the "they say they're about fiscal responsibility...until their hands are on the checkbook" thing, but it's hard to take that seriously when they don't even pay lip service to that "unlimited spending is bad" concept.

The older I get, the more I'm sure that anyone who legitimately supports either of those parties is definitely a Kool-Aid drinking sheep who cares infinitely more about blasting the other party for what they are or are not doing than they care about keeping an eye on what their party is doing.

The federal government has grown FAR. FAR, FAR too vast and too powerful and it will take the states joining together to roll it back; I'm all for that, it is probably our last chance to reign in the dictatorial powers the feds have garnered.

You may have a point.  But you sure as hell don't want states like Alabama having any more power than they already do.  This state is managed horribly - typical of a one party rule situation.

I think Alabama should be free to run their own affairs as best as they see fit. If the federal government has little power, federal elections have little meaning. More attention would be spent focusing on local issues.

Otherwise, we're slowly headed for a one party rule situation anyway. At the federal level. Which means there is no easy escape.

There is no such thing as reverse racism for one. And the country isn’t racist, even if some people are. Let me know if you need more help

I also don’t believe reverse racism is a thing, he obviously does. I also don’t disagree with everything he says. Both things can be true, this country has a long way to go as far as racism is concerned, and blacks are also doing better than they ever have.

As far as him getting called an Uncle Tom, perhaps he should give original thoughts or ideas that sound like he thought them up, not just repeat the same talking point that I could read on a tomi Lahren tweet or on the tucker Carlson rap up. I’m not real familiar with him and have only heard him speak a couple times, but it does come off as a black face simply repeating lines that have already been said in other conservative outlets. If he wants to gain credibility he needs to move off of the party lines and find his own voice. Other than that it just looks like the gop continues to just not read the room and try the same tactics and strategies they have used for that last 50 years.
