My Uncle Tom owned and operated Michael’s Ice Cream here in Jackson. Home of the famous bubble.

Damn, that looks good. And I agree, if you want to continue the conversation about racism, start a new thread. None of this talk has anything to do with the Biden admin.

What I gathered from that debate is gblock doesn't like black conservatives and it's ok to be racist towards them.  Just admit you don't like black conservatives and move on.

Agreed, that is the case for a lot of liberals however, that it is ok to be racist to black conservatives.

In actual news, the jobs report today is horrible. Maybe stop paying people not to work and get all schools opened back up (won’t matter here in a month). Some governors are already opting their state out of the federal unemployment benefits to get their people back to work. The risk of inflation continues to grow.

I can't speak for him but the way I took it was he didn't discriminate between conservatives or liberals but had an issue with assholes (not you) in general. To put it another way, most "smart" people judge on character and not race, nationality, skin color, etc. Now liberals are just idiots. Doesn't mean I don't like some of them.

Yeah, it could have been better, but the overall economy is still pretty good. I agree that the schools need to open up and that may be more a hinderance than unemployment benefits.

The unemployment benefits do get a lot of scrutiny, fine. However, if businesses are having trouble finding people, maybe increase the wages and offer more benefits? It maybe harder for some businesses, I get that, but I think the days of paying people really low wages and little benefits are numbered.

I don’t think he was, but if he was how would that be different than you defending people being racist to Tim Scott because you disagree with him on politics?

So offer higher wages solely because the government has artificially, for a ‘short time’, raised unemployment benefits?

Or the fact that maybe people are realizing now their old job or lower paying jobs were really bad, and now want better wages and benefits?

Think about it. If I previously worked at a fast food place or restaurant that paid under $10 and hour and offered shitty benefits, why would I want to go back to that job?

I think the pandemic has made a lot of people rethink the work they had previous to the pandemic.

There are a number of businesses near where I live that have hiring signs. I ask what they are willing to pay and what are the benefits, and they are low wages and zero benefits. Not a shocker they are having a hard time finding workers.

When you purchase vast amounts of unemployment with weekly payments, what do you expect.

STOP paying people NOT to work!!

They still shouldn’t be getting $1,200 a month above normal benefits to do nothing. There are numerous places here hiring at over $10 an hour ($14 at freaking Taco Bell). The rates will raise to what they need to be to get people hired, but it shouldn’t be competing with the federal government. You don’t get to just say I deserve more money so I’m going to sit here instead. Incentivizing laziness.

You are assuming they are just sitting and being lazy. Maybe folks found part time jobs online during the pandemic that paid as much or more than their previous jobs?

I think the economy post-pandemic has dramatically shifted to more online and gig work and the traditional low wage Taco Bell or Wendy's jobs are not just attractive for folks.

I do think it is a mix of that, and you do have some people just collecting checks, but not as many as people think. It is the tired old welfare queen shit that was dead wrong back in the day.

Fine, except when the competition for workers is government dole. Jobs making $17-20/hr are going begging.

Wages have skyrocketed over the past few years.  Most entry level jobs pay more then $10 an hour.  Places like Menards pay $15,an hour for weekends and those jobs require almost no training

I would never call you that.

I imagine if there was a random room of a 100 people that acted like assholes...I’d probably like one of them for some reason or the other.

The way you said it you had 100 child molesters in a room and a 100 conservatives in another room that you would only like 1 more person in the conservative room than the child molester room.

The reason they can't get people to come to work is  because with the added federal unemployment money it doesn't make sense for a person, especially if they don't have a high work ethic, to work 40 hours for say $1000/week ($20/hr) when the current system is giving them $900/week to STAY HOME?

Come on ptown, Occam's Razor and all, the simplest answer is probably correct. People aren't willing to work 40 hours a week for an additional $100 above what the government will give them for free. They would go to work for 40 hours a week to gain about $700/week if the federal additional $600 was dropped.

It's a little more of a complicated "reason" to say "people just finally realized they should get more pay and benefits to work a job that is not necessarily one that requires high levels of skill or experience".

People aren't going back to work because the government is handing people $900/week not to work and regular "decent" jobs pay in that similar range. Why work 40 hours for no significantly higher money?

And don't forget the moratorium on evictions means many people haven't been paying rent for 12 months.  So that's another $150-200 per week windfall.

When the craziness ends, a lot of these people will probably just declare bankruptcy.  And, to them, the pandemic was a year-long paid vacation.

You are not wrong, ptown will chalk it up to "people waking up" to deserving high wages and benefits for non-skilled labor.
