I don't know if you've watched Hillsdale play yet Mr Russel, but there is a huge difference between the two. They are for real, so put away any thoughts of the Smithies beating the Falcons.
It doesn't matter who the Smithies have back, the battle will be on the line of scrimmage, which Hillsdale will dominate.
That is exactly what I heard from a fan who has seen both Hillsdale and Smithville play. -
Mr. RussellLuckydog, I actually have seen both teams play much more than you. I know who has the better line. Whoever wins this game, does not necessarily indicate who has the better line.

You sound childish Mr Russel. How would you know how much I've watched these two teams? The game we played last Friday was won on the line of scrimmage plain and simple. My mom could have ran thru the holes the Falcons opened up. Control the line of scimmage and control the game.
The Smithies don't have the skill players that the Falcons do either so don't bother going there.
I know you're more knowledgeable than myself, but I've been watching the WCAL for about 20 years ( plus being around Football for around 35 years total)and have yet to see a team that dominates the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball lose too many games.....just sayin'..... -
Havin FunIf defense of Mr. Russell, he first said the Smithies had a better line than Norwayne, not Hillsdale.
Here in his own words "Havin Fun, you will laugh but I honestly think Smithville has a better line than Norwayne." -

Here's the entire post......he said the best line in the league
Havin Fun, you will laugh but I honestly think Smithville has a better line than Norwayne. With that being said, Norwayne is a great football team and their record indicates that. I just think Smithville has the best offensive line in the league. They have put up HUGE rushing numbers this year. I think they still have at least 4 more wins in them these last five games....
With that being said, the green machine will have to play a turnover free game to beat Hillsdale. It would be nice to have Roseler back. -
Havin Funmy bad. I am hoping he is right though but I have to agree Hillsdale looks much more intimidating at this point. The Bears did not play three of their best athletes on defense last Friday for whatever reason. We got by last year resting kids but do not have that luxury this year.

I'm going to go ahead and count Chippewa, Waynedale & Smithville out. After next week Northwestern will probably join that group, Rittman after that. I'm already enjoying the season and its never too early to talk playoffs. Especially when the WCALs chances of a team making a deep run are poor.Falcon;499077 wrote:Way to early to count anyone out of the playoff. As of today Dalton is sitting 6th in Div. VI, Region 21, Norwayne is sitting 4th in Div V, region 17, and Hillsdale is sitting 8th in Div V, Region 18. Good possibilities the whole way around. Just sit back and relax, enjoy some WCAL football and worry about the playoffs when that time comes. -

Havin Fun....man i wish i knew who you are... But I tell ya what, you are calling out the staff and play calling big time, you are questioning personel....you are really keeping at it.....and you know what??? It Pisses me off that NO other Bear fan is here to support your claims and back you up other than me!!!! (But i have remained somewhat silent, EVERYONE knows The Beast).... but you are right. This is crap. This ball team is easily 4-1...or 5-0 if the right guys are on the field....and the play calling suites the troops.Havin Fun;500381 wrote:my bad. Teams dont even have to scout us...they know we run/throw according to the player on the field. Good athletes playing one side of the ball because (as a player told me), I dont feel like playing offense.....only to have his MOTHER tell me, its the Coach!!!! Lil Petey would stay on the field if the coach would let him....LAZY KIDS.....EXCUSE MAKING PARENTS, and I dont know what to say about the coaches or personnel other than for the last 5 years we have haD an all-star to cover mis-matched plays....this year, we need a TEAM effort. I do believe that you can use the TEAM concept and still put your BEST 11 on THE FIELD!!!!!!!!!!! -
jscottTRUE THERE ..... YOU CANT WIN GAMES IF U HAVE YOUR STUDS WATCHING THE GAME.......
-
Mr. RussellLuckydog, that is my point! They don't have the skilled players right now. But they have the line. Thank you. Also, if Roseler and Bates were playing, they do have the better skilled players in my opinion. It is not hard to sit here and say Hillsdale is going to win either. They are an obvious favorite right now. I was strictly talking about the lines. I agree with you one hundred percent, whoever dominates the line of scrimmage wins a majority of the games....But when your quarterback fumbles three times on the one yard line against Waynedale, and completes one pass in two games combined against the bears and the bulldogs. Plus, your team giving Dalton the ball twice, within their five, about to score. You aren't going win, regardless of how good your line is, I don't care who you are. Last year Hillsdale was also supposed to dominate Smithville and a freshman quarterback in his second start almost carried the Smithies to a huge upset. I wouldn't expect the same, but my point is, you never ever know in the WCAL.

1_beastA post from another thread that has good perception on playing 2 ways....
Only so many plays....only so many friday nights....play every play.....Old Rider;498181 wrote:5K...agree 100%. I see it as well. If you are tired, get off the field.
There are only "so many" friday nights in high school football...play every play! -
Havin FunBeast - I am a WCAL fan and Bear fan. I like our staff. Just raising questions that the average fan may notice. Of all the teams we have played, most of their guys are going both ways, especially the best athletes. The Smithville game just highlighted this more because I think all their guys went both ways other than a few spot or situational players.
I have no hidden agenda or stake in who plays at all. I just feel this is a team that could have a few wins if we had a few minor adjustments.
This team is much better than their record. I credit the coaches for getting a less talented team than other years ready. Now just play the best athletes and have fun the rest of the way. Other than Smithville at 1-4, Rittman 3-2, the other three opponents are 4-1. Triway and TV are d-4. -
dhs22pDalton needs to come out and take it to the Huskies this week. We will get to see more and more what Lint's role will be in the Dogs offense. We can't let one loss turn into 2.

1486wdthis is a dangerous game for dalton - they have more talent and should win but being a little banged up and a liitle down after a loss can be a dangerous thing (or it can fire you up). Chippewa was just what the doctor ordered for a husky team needing confidence. The bulldogs should still win, but they better come in ready.
-
madman11This week should be a confidence builder for the Tribe......SHOULD be an easy win @ Chippewa but rumours are the team will be without Turbeville and Sahagian. Any truth to this?
-
dhs22pWell its game day! LETS GO DOGS!
-
Red RumThis week should tell everyone alot about the WCAL.....
Rittman will destroy Chippewa (the Chipps are in MAJOR rebuilding mode) Rittman by 40,50 or 60.
Dalton should defeat the Huskies. Northwesterns defense might make a game of it through halftime or maybe 3 quarters. The Dawgs speed & talent will eventually wear the boys in blue down. A Husky victory would be a HUGE upset but I just don't see it happening this week. Dalton by 20. (Hope I'm wrong-Go Huskies)
Hillsdale over Smithville. Jared Whitcomb & the Falcon "O" & "D" lines are flat out nasty. Their skill guys are pretty good too. Although I haven't seen the Smithies yet this year, I do know that running the ball on the Falcons has been a rough road for everyone (even St. Johns in the first 2 and a half quarters). Smithvilles running attack plays to the Falcons strength. Hillsdale by 21.
My pick for best WCAL game this week. The Waynedale fans arguments about the best 11 & schedule strength has me sippin' the Kool-Aid. If the Bears swiss cheese "D" can man up, this could be a game. If not, Norwayne will run wild over Waynedale. I'll need a few more jello shots to pick Da Bears.....Norwayne by anywhere from 3 to 28. -
Havin FunRed Rum it doesn't matter what the fans say. It is a coaching philosophy to include more kids in the program. The downside is you won't have as good of a record as you could have. Even though last years team finished 7-3, they probably go 8-2 or 9-1 playing the best 11.
-
Red RumHavin' Fun, Calm down chief, I've been getting your point all along....just needed something to say about the game, probably could have worded it a little better, wasn't looking to shake your foundations.
Good luck tonight -
madman11Ok, Turbeville and Sahagian will NOT be suspended for the game tonight. Appratenly after the senior lunch with the Chippewa senior, they both didn't report back to school and missed the last period of the day (which was a lifting class). Good news for the team. Rittman by 55
-
madman11Rittman-55
Chippewa- 27
Bauman threw for 4 td's and rushed for 3 more im pretty sure......Still a sloppy game for the Tribe. Better pick it up when the Dawgs come to town next week! -
1_beastBears played a good game tonight. Different looking ball team, better play calling. Stanley at qb did a nice job overall, making some nice runs AND passes! If this kid had a few more quarters/games under his belt, Bears win this game. Miller looked good, Strasbaugh and Carthy and Swinehart....overall nice game. Once again to's killed. Failed to convert on 4th (would of sealed the game), maybe should of punted...Norwayne goes 1/2 field and scores....2pt conv ties it. Bears get ko on the 35....5 wide...middle opens and Stanley keeps on a designed play up the middle. Started like it was drawn, ended in a fumble. Cats go 40 yards and kick the fg to win it....the end score was there only lead of the game since leading 7-3 early in the 2nd. Bears lead 3-0 after 1....15-7 at halftime, 22-14 after 3rd....(a 40 yard? Stanley td run called back for holding?)......just not getting the Breaks.
GOOD playing calling tonight by Z... -
Havin FunBears had em down 22-7 and let em up off the mat eventually losing 25-22. Great game though and give Norwayne credit. They are talented. Hard rushing attack to stop with multiple backs who can hit the hole hard. Great play calling and decisions by our staff. Keep your heads up Bears. Lots of young kids looking really good. Soph QB played really well. Heck the whole team played well.
