I believe that they wanted to move up in the system, but were not, so they got frustrated and left.

I don't think b/c they are good in sports is the reason they seem to be so 'hated'.

I think we are hated because we have the best of everything, not just in football. We have among the best facilities in the country. Everything is new and state-of-the-art. We have the highest paid teachers in the area, so most of the best local teachers apply to teach for us. Our football program generates a tremendous amount of school spirit. We have never turned down a school levy.

These are the reasons everyone hates us. They are jealous.

Ummm...no. The arrogance of some fans I'd say is probably the biggest reason why Big Red is hated. Whenever someone tells me they can't stand Big Red...they never mention their success, facilities, or teachers...it's always the arrogance of the fans. Just b/c people hate you..doesn't mean they are jealous of you. I have the schools I can't stand either...and trust me...jealousy has absolutely NOTHING to do with it.

Your racial makeup? do you even know what your % of nationalities currently enrolled in the Big Red school district?

Big Red is 56% white. So are you saying that the Ohio Valley hates white people?

Maybe the locals hate big red because of what your kids do after hi school. And I dont mean athletics. Just an opinion.

Come on, let's be real here. Big Red has always had a large number of black students, while the rest of the area, save Weirton (who by the way doesn't seem to hate us, hmmm), has traditionally been almost all white.

If you lived here for more than 5 minutes you have heard the racial slurs directed at "the school downtown".

GoChiefs, you're not from around here, so you wouldn't understand, and besides, the hatred goes way back, long before the advent of the internet.
  • BuckCreek
What does the advent of the internet have to do with the arrogance of some fans? I have observed this for many years before the internet, but I also have attended many big red athletic events. I used to like watching their teams, but do not like dealing with their fans. As far as the racial slurs, I mostly hear about them from big red fans trying to find reasons why they are not liked or revered by everyone.

Just yesterday at a Steubenville track meet, a bus driver approached the gate and identified himself as a bus driver for the event. The person at the gate still wanted $5 to allow him to enter. Bus drivers who transport teams to athletic events are never charged admission to the events. Just another reason to dislike big red.

    LOL..yea, okay, whatever you say.

And I have had to work multiple sporting events at the High School and at Harding Stadium... Had to pay for everything even though I was "required" to be there. And all I wanted was a water since the water fountains were turned off for the event. :/

I can understand at a football game if you want something other than water you will have to pay for it, But at those wrestling matches that sometimes run for 6-8 hours... Water and a slice of pizza shouldn't be $3.50. Watched countless kids from the Steubenville Schools walk right up and get what they want without paying... I am just hoping thats covered in their lunch plan of something because its pretty crappy to charge people that are required to be there for water, but give it to your students, faculty, and "buddies" for free.

This thread will be quiet for a while now... Long enough to find an excuse, or pitch Big Red's new policy at the food stand active as of 10:48 PM March 28th 2010. LOL Or we will get a slam back at us talking about how some Big Red band member didn't get their free hot dog the way the requested it in 1962 when they came to Wintersville and we will be back as the buttholes... LOL

This is Creek's thread. Why are you and SOS so anxious to talk about Big Red on it?

Oh? I believe I responded to a post... I would much prefer you as well as every other Big Red poster stay off OUR thread... Except for the likes of Bigman, he IS a true classy person. The rest of you, well... Why don't you respond/have an answer for my replies to you? Drive a bus, an ambulance, or be part of Big Red staff and come to Creek for a sports function and find out what professionalism is besides what you can get away with on the field... every time I walk into that building I want to take a pi** on it.
  • sonofsam
A Big Red is a horse, school, town, team... Hell, its everything if you want it to be... I call my toilet "Big Red" even though its a cream color.... But I do have the famous horse blowing smoke painted on it... I usually hit it right between the eyes when I take a dump.

I wouldn't understand what? I understand fully. Big Red fans think they are hated on just b/c others are jealous..when in fact..that's not the case. That's just an excuse. Whenever someone is hated on..they always so the same thing.."oh, you're just jealous". WRONG! Some..yes..the might just be jealous of the success..but most..they have their reasons..and success has NOTHING to do with it. I don't have to be from around there to know about Big Red and the hatred some have for them.

Enough with anything mentioning race please. Those types of conversations never end well, so lets not even get it started.
  • ManO'War
I'm pretty sure Big Red is more than 17% black...where do you get your information from???

Manaze, you tell me then, because I've heard this hatred of all things Big Red my whole life...and that includes the 70's, when Big Red Football wasn't doing that great.
  • sonofsam
    uggghhhhh....
  • GoChiefs
Who cares! Any posts about race will be deleted or edited from here on out. It's a topic that DOES NOT MATTER AT ALL!

MoW, go play with your flags at the stadium... You are NOT the god of Big Red football although you do put a pretty mean flag in its holster... Keep up the good work buddy and let us know how you next arse wiping session goes at Reno's house will ya?

Back to the turf I really hope they do not do it. Football today is becoming so sissyfied. Play in the mud and have some fun. Indian Creek has the best muddy field in the valley and I hope that never changes.

I like the mud too, but it costs a ton of money to play a mud bowl game because of the repairs to the field and not to mention that it becomes and unplayable surface. Plus the turf would create a stable field every game.

I think it would look good with the IC in the middle and our colors would look pretty damn good on a turf field... :)
  • MANAZE
haha depends on the colors they choose that year for the red and gold. we've had some ugly combos.
