Anyone going to the Shadyside scrimmage?
  • Camoman
Yep Think I will take a stroll over to the field and check things out.
I might take in the Buckeye Steub Central scrimmage coming up also, I have to find the date on that one.

I will be there as well. I believe it will be a lot like last year's scrimmage with the lineman drills then the actual scrimmage. Hopefully no lightning this year though :)

The are doing as well as you would expect in preseason. I like the philosophy the coaches are using... Its not about winning the scrimmage or scoring TD's, its about ironing out the details. We know we can throw the ball well, so a lot of the focus has been on the run. We had some trouble against Shadyside running the ball so they continued to work it out against Columbiana. We ran a little better against them, then against EL the running game finally took stride. Two TD runs against EL of 65 and 70 yards. The Shadyside scrimmage ended in a 0-0 tie, Columbiana tied as well at 1-1 and we beat EL 2-0. The freshman scrimmaged Southern Local's varsity and ended in a 0-0 tie. We had 2 injuries early against Columbiana, two ankles. One appeared to be ok, the other might be a few weeks. The defense has been pretty solid, a good amount of Shadyside's passes were thrown after Creek had a defender at their QB. Adam Young and David Kemp have both looked very good throwing the ball. David has the ability to step right in and make plays if needed. The player I keep my eyes on right now is RB Evan Hopkins. He has been running very well with the ball and playing well on defense also. Next up is Cambridge on Friday night for the preview game... Should be a fun night and I expect the coaches will turn the playbook past page 2 this week since everything is coming together.

The team chemistry is very good this year and you can see the teamwork on the field. Its going to be a fun year :)

Great video... Very nice run as well. Too bad we got hosed at the end of that one...

That was not this game. This game was the Regional Semifinal game in D2 and went into OT.Wintersville was winning 14-0 with 7:25 left in the 4th. Big Red scored 2 TD's to pull even. In over time the Red scored first. Then Wintersville went 4 and out with Dean Ferguson scrambling on 4th down and Curtis Herring intercepting a the pass intended for the endzone.

My bad, That was a long time ago. At least it was still one of the more competitive games Between Wintersville and Big Red. You don't see many teams attack Big Red right up the middle like that and score. I will always have a soft spot for Slingin' Sam... The screen name says it all.

we need Paul Yates back ;)

Awesome video! Never thought I'd see that again. Was there and what a heartbreaker for the Warriors. Those were some of the best uniforms ever...the video does not do them justice.

Kevin went on to UCONN where he was all conference in 1989, averaged 102 career ypg (2nd in school history), 5.2 yds / carry, 1732 career yds (8th) and once gained 272 yds in a game against UMASS. You can check it out in their media guide.

Even though they lost that game, those video clips are something that every current IC player should see. It's part of their history and success. Realize that Wintersville played the defending Div II state champs that tough. Says a lot about the program back in those days.
