I called smithville out for pounding on Akron North and said that will haunt them at some point. This year I am prediction the Chipps followed by the Cats. Smithville will underachieve but at least they get to play Dalton...
Honestly we have some experience on the line and one skilled return ... rest are young I do not hold out what el chappo is selling here ... Norwayne has too many offensive weapons that will hurt a low experienced Chipp Defense

You can get one in the package of humble pie at the concession stand.
Thankful I live in D-town, you guys have a great place for the boys to play though, concession workers at top notch. Will enjoy my trip to the Creek, a meeting of the minds(or mindless) Good luck.

Dalton beat Tuslaw 13-10. Nice win Dawgs!
  • oldsmithie

    Rittman 19 South Central 14
    Orrville 27 Norwayne 6
Ridgewood beat Wayndale big (not sure of exact score)
    Northwestern 35 Black River 27
Some very interesting turn of events!!! Before anyone complains about the Smithville score, Everyone on the team played, running clock from second quarter on. Defense scored twice. Smithville was taking a knee in 4th quarter.

    Bears lost 45-10 I believe.

Chipps win a back and forth 34-31
    Wanyedale lost 45-10
Scorestream has Rittman losing 14-13 so not sure anybody at that one?
  • Hogger53
    Hillsdale 20-6 over Crestview
  • Hogger53
IMO, Dalton was underrated... Norwayne might be a bit overrated. WCAL looks to have a lot more parody in it again this year... May have teams sharing the title
  • oldsmithie
I think you are right Hogger53! the league is gonna be closer than we all thought! Orrville did a great job of defending the Bobcat spread offense. I don't think Norwayne was overrated but I think they underestimated the Red Riders!! One more week of non conference for the WCAL to get things fine tuned! Smithville has GOT to work on the kicking game!!!! it is bad!!!! punting, kick off and extra point!!!!!

There were a few things I didn't see coming thus far in the season.

    1. I did not see Norwayne losing to Orrville, ESPECIALLY after Week 1. I wonder if Orrville was still feeling that playoff loss a few years back. Obviously, these players weren't on the team back then, but tradition carries, and defining games can be part of tradition.

    2. Rittman is 2-0. Really. They are. Look it up. In all seriousness, I don't know if they're looking decent, as I haven't seen them yet, but you've always gotta cheer for a WCAL team bringing non-conference wins into conference play. More points at stake means more playoff teams.

    3. I did not expect Dalton to beat Tuslaw. Obviously, they can score, but perhaps they've got a spark.

    Things I did expect:

    1. Chippewa, Northwestern, and Smithville are all 2-0. I'm pretty sure everyone saw that coming.

    2. Smithville mollywhopped Akron North. I went to the game, having a vested interest in both teams. I knew it would be bad, but I wasn't sure it would rival largest-margin-ever win (they missed by two points, as the 2002 team beat New London 80-6). I'll say this though: I have nothing but respect for the kids from North. They never, ever quit. They continued to hustle. As a team, they have great speed. If they played with discipline and got some decent conditioning, they could be a much better team.

    3. Waynedale is 0-2. I don't like that I came in betting on this, but I did, all the same. Still, I don't think they'll go through conference play without a win. There seems to be enough parity that I could see everyone with at least one win in conference and even maybe co-champs. And truth be told, Triway is 2-0 because they played two 0-2 teams really closely.

How I think this week will shake out:

Chippewa: They'll have their way with Tuslaw. Sometimes, early in the year, it's hard to figure out if you're playing a quality opponent or not. I think we're far enough in to say that Tuslaw is down and Chippewa is up.
Dalton: I think Clearview has shown quite a bit of promise, and while Dalton is on the upswing, I think they're a little further behind. Clearview should win, and they might win by a lot.
Hillsdale: They beat Ashland Crestview, who isn't exactly a scrub. Loudonville is rebuilding. This one could get really ugly.
Northwestern: This will be the game of the week, I believe. Columbia looks sharp, as does Northwestern so far. Should be a good game.
Norwayne: Even at 1-1, I think they'll be fine against Firestone, who has lost in two blowouts against two admittedly good teams. I don't think Norwayne will blow them out, but I think they'll win by a pair of touchdowns.
Rittman: Rittman may come into league play a 3-0. After drubbing Richmond Heights and edging South Central, I like them against another 0-2 team.
Smithville: They'll win by a pair of TDs. My guess is that they'll play a sloppy game and that they should actually win by at least twice what they actually win by, but they'll still get to 3-0.
Waynedale: I can see this one being a close game. I will probably still say Triway wins, but it wouldn't shock me if it was by less than a touchdown.

Chippewa has some things to fix defensively, but I hope you are right O-Trap.

IMHO Northwestern is probably the team to watch this year, depending on how Norwayne responds to their loss, and Rittman is a wild card.

Good luck to all of the WCAL this coming week.
  • oldsmithie
I think the team being over looked is Hillsdale! I am not surprised at Rittman as the were 5-5 a year ago, but the non league games for Rittman are not much of a test. Northwestern is due for a good year and time will tell about Norwayne and Smithville. Chippewa is a program on the upswing these past few years but I don't think they will manhandle Tuslaw. Norwayne needs to bounce back this week but they might have their hands full with division 2 Firestone. I am pulling for all WCAL teams this week as all the non conference victories add up to second level computer points!

    Triway-Waynedale...Discuss.

I know it's early in the season, but this one may have the makings of a closer game than the records would indicate. Waynedale has lost two games, but against two seemingly pretty good teams. Triway has won two close games against teams who were blown out by their other opponents.

Obviously, that doesn't ultimately determine the outcome. Either team could win, and the games could be blowouts or go down to the wire. If I'm picking, I'll take Triway, but I'm guessing it will be another game decided by fewer than seven points.
  • O-Trap
By the way, would anybody be interested in a pick 'em contest this year? Been a few years since we've done one, but I would be willing to do it for league play if there was enough interest.
  • oldsmithie
It seems as though Waynedale has a little defensive trouble against the pass and since Triway is a pass first team, this has the potential to be a lopsided game in favor of the Titans. There are a few teams I am having trouble getting a handle on including Smithville. The Smithie defense seems to be better and quicker to the ball but has had lapses (second half verses Tuslaw). The games this week will hopefully give us a clearer picture. I would like a WCAL pick ems contest!

This week I am going with
    Smithville over Fairless
    Norwayne over Firestone
    Dalton over Clearview
    Northwestern over Columbia
    Triway over Waynedale
    Rittman over Mapleton
    Hillsdale over Loudonville
    Chippewa over Tuslaw

Triway bye 4 touchdowns, players beat them bye one score and coaches beat them bye 3 more. I would be up for a pick em, just wondering if WACLFAN is????
