I don't see Austin Domer playing next year. He is Top 40 in ohio in baseball and will get some serious looks. Once he commits to a school I think the football career will be haulted- baseball coach will see to itOld Rider;1753494 wrote:Domer twisted his knee so the coaches chose to sit him the 2nd half and Hersh is nursing a groin injury. Both should be good for Friday...if that means anything. -

There's 4 or 5 on this years roster that had a dad play. One is a captain & another 2 are some of the hardest working kids on the team. Funny how having a dad who played seems to produce kids who work hard.Series62;1753495 wrote:C'mon rr1, although it was a different time, that method seemed to work for Smitty, and not many former players under him would disagree. Also, many of the high schoolers that "lack" talent and are "lazy" are probably the children of many of those former athletes/players.
Used to be no big deal to have a team full of guys who had a dad, brother, grandpa, uncle or cousin play....that's very different now.

Way to go moron, just keep using language like that so they shut the thread down. Please continue to make your points in the most neanderthal way possible so you and your wife lose all the credibility you never had. You, your wife, and RRN make up one heck of a household. The Troll King;1753507 wrote:I can't wait to bust you in the mouth ! And that will be the last thing I say on here . -

Quickest way to get run by the school board is to tell a kid he can't cut it. It goes double that fast if you curse. Triple if it was an alumnus that was good back in the glory days.RedRider1;1753522 wrote:There's 4 or 5 on this years roster that had a dad play. Why are you upset? I'm just trying to get past any misunderstandings that we have had in the past. If I offended you and your significant other, I am truly. Oh yes RRN who has been to no games but knows everything. Let me make this easy for you. I will root for these players and any other player to ever play at Orrville. Also, if you were at the game (Lexington game) these boys played their hearts out! I will be critical when I need to but unlike you I have respect for these players and coaches and will continue to do so.Red Rider Nation;1753124 wrote:RRfan says "hard fought game tonite boys". Never gave up! Keep fighting hard. I know I said you don't put the work in at the weight room but tonite that didn't show. You were men amongst boys! Sorry I wasn't there tonite you are just "hard to watch"

I agree with not watching this as a team...I don't think there is a scheme that could have fixed Friday.RedRider1;1753459 wrote:Here's film...they ran it for 300+ on us & there's no personnel or scheme change that would have changed anything about that.
Maybe coaches should have made the kids watch film, curse up a storm, throw things against the wall & get in the kids faces some. Would that be better? That seems to be what good coaches are made of right? -
An-Old-FanSometimes doing what you have always done is not what is needed. As said many times, these kids are not the same as the past. They need new ways of motivating. In general, breaking down today's athletes with intentions of building them up and making them stronger does not work as it used to.

Agree fully. Think it was wise to not bring them in for that. New players was the only answer it sounds like. They were way under manned with Domer and Hersh out.An-Old-Fan;1753596 wrote:Sometimes doing what you have always done is not what is needed. sanitizerI really wish we could have conversations without getting so hateful. When did we lose the ability to disagree without being offended? And if people want to act tuff on an anonymous social media site...... Or make comments to deliberately get someone else that upset..... Well then WE are a big part of the problem!!!!
Gonna be a hard run this year, I hope these kids continue to play hard for each other and their team. Because judging from some of these comments I wouldn't be putting my effort in for the "fans".
I would just say, that we shouldn't let the fact that this site carries with it a degree of anonymity allow us to be reckless with our tone and language. I am pretty sure I know almost all of you and I KNOW you are better than this kind of crap.
To ANY player who may read this I would say don't let the fog blind you from fighting hard on Friday nights along with your teammates!!! Those bonds last FOREVER and if you have not played then you just can't understand! Do not go gentle boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never agreed with the "temper-tantrum", "throw-a-chair", "cussing and jacking students up" mentality. It may have worked for some but not most. When I first moved to Orrville and my two oldest sons played football in the 7th and 8th grades, there had to be at least 40 - 50 students on each team. In all reality, they had enough players/athletes to try to possibly have offense only and defense only teams with a few going both ways. But they never did that. They usually had the same 11-15 starting and playing offense and defense and most of those players were naturally talented/gifted athletes. They used to win by huge margins also, and the rest didn't get much playing time.An-Old-Fan;1753596 wrote:Sometimes doing what you have always done is not what is needed. In my opinion, from the practices I did see, they had their favorites and really didn't spend much time in practice trying to find or develop anyone else. Most of the coaches now are the same coaches and/or are some of those former players coaching in the same manner as they were coached. Now the talented/gifted/athleticism pool has diminished and it's time to see what kind of coaching "skills" they really have!
We're told that in the past, Orrville had some great coaching to go along with the great talent and athletes. Or, was it great athletes that made the coaching look great??? During conversations and days of recollection with some of the athletes under Coach Tipton, they've stated that they didn't spend a lot of time in the weight room either, they simply got by on talent, athleticism, love of the game and playing in the park, i.e., "Park Ball"!
By some on this thread, we've been told that Coach Davault was among those great coaches too and would always have his team ready! Hmmmm!
A great coach should be able to motivate his team to work hard on and off season and get rid of any "cancerous" members that refuse to participate.
Perhaps then he can get back to the "old" days, run with 11-15 players going both ways! How great would that be?! -
sanitizerthey've stated that they didn't spend a lot of time in the weight room either, they simply got by on talent, athleticism, love of the game and playing in the park, i.e., "Park Ball"!
I played for Mac and I can attest to this, only a couple of real "dedicated" weight room guys each year but not many. I can think of three or four from each year I played. And the BEST athletes I knew NEVER really spent time in the weight room. They did however ALWAYS show up for active stuff? When we had any kind of summer practice we were ALL their for those. And back then WE ALL got lessons in the summer playing park ball with uncles and cousins who played years before us. I remember if you lost at the park you just went home because you KNEW you weren't getting back on for about 3 hours..... Pretty amazing times when I think back! -

So in your story if a kid is good enough to go both ways that kid should not get to in order to give your kid who was not on the field a spot? Listen Coaching is not the problem out there right now and yes many kids are playing both ways as they should be if they are the best you can put out there.Series62;1753619 wrote:I've never agreed with the "temper-tantrum", "throw-a-chair", "cussing and jacking students up" mentality. Friday was a game where we were out performed by a better team. Not a coach in this country that could have changed that. As far a Mo teams not spending much time in the weight rooms...of course they did not. Times are much different with what has been learned by training now vs. then. -

From my experience, much of that "ability" was lost a result of one not agreeing with several Orrville "supporters"! Before RRN came along, heck, I was counted as the "scourge" of the Orrville threads...probably still am! I've thrown my share of insults, was suspended from the jjH once too! It was such a laugher to me! What I've said was true, they just didn't like it and often tried to gang up (failure) on me! It's all just FUN! LOL!!!sanitizer;1753606 wrote:....... I understand the "hurt" of the great Red Riders getting kicked around wherein they used to do the "kicking", however...
The Bible says, "As you have sown, so shall you reap".
I don't agree with everything RRN says, but it's cool! rrFan, Old R and I have common ground on some items, (I believe that really bugs rrFan when he knows I'm right and he has to agree), but it's all good! -

In my story, with 40-50 kids, and you're fielding only 11-15, did you attempt to find how much "hidden" talent you had that wasn't a real standout so that that student could play? One might not then have to go both ways.rrfan;1753624 wrote:So in your story if a kid is good enough to go both ways that kid should not get to in order to give your kid who was not on the field a spot? By your own admission, the Head Coach and/or coaches can't get players into the weight room or motivate them to improve their work ethic during the off season.
Whatever happened this past Friday night has nothing to do with the conversation, some teams are just better. It was like that back in the day when teams played the Red Riders of yore, correct!?
With times being different, I guess he has to start "coaching" into the weight room, huh!? -

I can dig everything you say because in a way, the weight training was a result of the "active" stuff, including the simple work at home, mowing the grass, shoveling snow and the playing at the park!sanitizer;1753622 wrote:I played for Mac and I can attest to this, only a couple of real "dedicated" weight room guys each year but not many. But how many of your fellow Red Riders on here "BOO-HOOED" "park ball", especially when Don Short was head coach! I beluieve that if they said that junk around Smitty, they might've had a chair thrown at them! LOL! -

So The Orrville football team is being compared to the Galatians of the Bible? If so our play on the field "mocks" god? LOL, BTW just kidding here. Seeing as how Paul probably used the sow reference because most cultures were heavily dependent on agriculture and he knew they would easily understand we should probably think of a different reference for football players in 2015.The Bible says, "As you have sown, so shall you reap".
When opinions are accompanied or delivered without a degree of civility and logic they often get dismissed as insanity even if they have validity. I don't agree completely with RRN but see value in any opinion. But if we loose the ability to have intellectual conversations without being condescending or deliberately hurtful anything that "could" be gained in the debate gets lost. I also feel that a few bad decisions along the way shouldn't mean we tar and feather a person (coach). -

"OUR" fellow Red Riders.... And I don't really know. I was not really privy to that argument? I do remember Smitty being scared we would get hurt playing park ball because a few of us were not smart enough (in those days at that age), to not go chest to chest with some of the OG's from the park! LOL! It got HEATED some days!!!But how many of your fellow Red Riders on here "BOO-HOOED" "park ball", especially when Don Short was head coach! I agree...the middle school has to be where the hidden gems are found. With those kind of numbers there is no reason not to be playing 75% of them. However, we had numbers like that when I was in middle school, with one of the greatest coaches Orrville has ever had (Ernie Mellow) and we still only played about 15-18 kids. The rest sat and watched. The attitude by parents then used to be "get better and work your way onto the field"! Now the parent's attitude is more of "well...you don't need to deal with that. Just quit! Or better yet...I will go have a talk with that damn coach and I will tell him how I feel".Series62;1753638 wrote:In my story, with 40-50 kids, and you're fielding only 11-15, did you attempt to find how much "hidden" talent you had that wasn't a real standout so that that student could play? look maybe you're not married maybe you're ok with someone ripping on a woman but I'm not. all I'm doing is defending my woman . I haven't been on here for two weeks and the last time I was I said I handled things wrong .I said I would talk about football . I thought that was enough because it was an apology . I can't believe that you are okay with this guy continuing to verbally assault my woman . He continues to attack her every chance he gets. I tried to be nice the last time I'm done being nice . I told him how it is like I said maybe you're not married and maybe you'd be fine with somebody attacking your woman. I'm not and if that offends you or shuts this thread down then oh well . I haven't said anything on here derogatory in a couple weeks . I just read the stuff and keep to myself apparently that's not enough this guy wants to continue to attack my woman. I'm really sorry if that pisses you off bye me defending her . If somebody was saying these type of things about your wife would you be upset ?Oldest Rider2;1753539 wrote:Way to go moron, just keep using language like that so they shut the thread down. Kid: "Mom, coach isn't giving me any playing time."
Mom: "You better go outside and get better!"
2015
Kid: "Mom, coach isn't giving me any playing time."
Mom: "He's not!!??" "How dare he. You don't have to put up with that...he obviously has something against you." "You should just quit going to practice...that will show him."
Mom sends an email to the coach, Facebooks about it, calls the principal and starts a petition to remove the coach.
