They both were sitting out of practice the other day. I have not heard if they will be ready to go for Friday or not? As far as West Holmes goes...I think this is a winnable game for us....then again so was Triway and Lexington. West Holmes is using some young guys. I know the running back they have been using is the younger Ogi (freshman).rrfan;1754067 wrote:Wow a lot of words typed from yesterday....just nothing worth reading.
On the Orrville front how is the health. Especially Domer and Hersh? will they be good to go on Friday? I have heard that West Holmes is pretty beat up as well. -

Old RiderWelcome to Country-Suburban-City Living
The J.M. Smucker Company is a great place to work because Northeast Ohio is a great place to live, explore, and raise a family. Whether you come from a major metropolitan area and love city life, or you prefer the pace of relaxed country living, or anything in-between, you'll find a home within a comfortable commute from our Corporate offices in Orrville.
Only 30 minutes away, the greater Akron area offers a full complement of housing, recreation, education, and the arts. To the north, greater Cleveland presents an equally diverse range of lifestyle communities and activities.
Reasons to live in Northeast Ohio:
- Diverse communities and affordable housing.
- Acclaimed health care and wellness programs.
- Top-rated schools, colleges, and universities.
- A variety of recreational activities and attractions.
- Professional, minor-league, and college sports.
- World-class arts and cultural programs.
- Superb shopping and dining.
So....Smuckers is going to be bringing around 400 jobs to Orrville!! I think thats great! However, this^^^ is on their company web page....GREAT PROMOTERS OF YOUR OWN COMMUNITY!!! How about promote the schools we have and encourage people to live HERE! There is more on their website that clearly tells new employees that commuting is the way to go if you work for Smuckers! Sorry...but that doesn't sit well with me. -

I have heard that some things have changed in Smucker's in the past year or so and it is not nearly what it once was. That was from a few employees that have been there a long time. Does not seem like All that Character they proclaim over and over all the time to me.Old Rider;1754077 wrote:Welcome to Country-Suburban-City Living

Old RiderAnother GREAT example of "promoting" Orrville...
Working and Living in Northeast Ohio
Within easy access of Orrville, the lifestyle options are unlimited. From Akron's trendy Highland Square and the 1920's-era homes of Fairlawn Heights, loft-style apartment living in downtown Cleveland's restored Warehouse district, gracious country homes and golf communities of Medina, to the small-town charm and natural landscapes of Wayne County, you'll find a place to live that fits the way you want to live. It's all at your doorstep, from The J.M. Smucker Company in Orrville, Ohio. -

I hope they're both back. I want to say that Domer was held out because he was hurt but they didn't want to make it worse in a game we weren't going to win....so the safe play was to keep him out.rrfan;1754067 wrote:Wow a lot of words typed from yesterday....just nothing worth reading.

Not sure on Hersh but he didn't practice all last week.
If you throw out our high scoring and low scoring game..we're averaging about 23 a game. Same for WH & they're averaging around 16 per.
Their first 5 have been much tougher than our first 5.....and they run it & we're bad against the run.
I don't see us shutting them down so we'll need to put some points up (30+) to have a shot. -

unc4lifeNo offense, but Orrville just is not for everyone. When you have a company the size of Smuckers, you have to find people from all over to relocate. I don't think Smuckers is trying to not have people live in Orrville, just giving them options. I wouldn't complain to much about Smuckers, because there will be a day when they don't want Orrville anymore and that will be the day Orrville will never recover from.

I agree with you and I do not expect any young 20 something out of college to move to Orrville. My point was to say they do very little to promote the community in which they have invested millions in. The Smuckers went to school here, lived here and raised their families here. I would think that a young couple with kids wanting to raise their familiy away from the areas they suggest to live would find Orrville attractive...it worked just fine for Tim and Richard!unc4life;1754117 wrote:No offense, but Orrville just is not for everyone. O-TrapLet's try this again:
#2. Watch the name-calling.
If you're doing so on friendly terms, it's fine. If, however, you do so as part of an argument, it's not. -
Red Rider NationI like it CC when will you be changing your name over? Let me know if you need help with that.

You have to fix your school system in order to get people to come there. Scoring in the 70's for academics vs schools within 30 minutes that are in the 90's will not get people to start families there. Outside of that there isn't much upside to Orrville. Not a lot to do and not a whole lot going for it. Again though improve your academics and people will come.Old Rider;1754077 wrote:Welcome to Country-Suburban-City Living

Got a system full of good teachers...and 3 beautiful school buildings. That's a start.Red Rider Nation;1754139 wrote:You have to fix your school system in order to get people to come there. I'll never argue that scores don't need to improve...but we can both agree that academic success starts at home.
Teachers (similar to coaches) can't work miracles from 9 to 3:30pm when mom & dad aren't making school a priority at home.
Schools around us aren't doing anything different from an educational standpoint..they're benefiting from the families in those districts. I've seen it with my own eyes.
Orrville also has much higher % of students classified as having a learning disability...and our numbers of kids the state calls economically disadvantaged has never been higher either.
Those are challenges that aren't easy to overcome. It's why the Boys Club is bursting at the seams with kids in their after school homework (and dinner) program. -

After all the JM Smucker Company and family has done for the city of Orrville and the Orrville schools, they owe nothing to the community in my opinion when trying to promote new employees for themselves.Old Rider;1754077 wrote:So....Smuckers is going to be bringing around 400 jobs to Orrville!! rrfanNobody is saying the JM Smucker Company has not done a ton for Orrville just find it odd that they basically are begging new employees to the area to live outside of Orrville. I guess we are not allowed to have an opinion on Smucker's???

Never said you could not have an opinion of them as an employer, but as far as the schools and community goes I would think it should only be "THANK YOU". Maybe what the HR department is dealing with is that new employees are not interested in living Orrville. Out of curiosity, what would you list as an attraction to live in Orrville for a young professional couple making a move to Smuckers from outside the area?rrfan;1754149 wrote:Nobody is saying the JM Smucker Company has not done a ton for Orrville just find it odd that they basically are begging new employees to the area to live outside of Orrville. What I would say is that you have all new schools, with great facilities. You have easy access to all the big cities you want without the hassle of driving in traffic everyday to and from work. You have a very nice park system with pool, tennis, baseball, and softball diamonds. (Fire in the sky tourney is one of the biggest in the country). Rib Fest. YMCA, Local college in town, Places to eat include (Old Carolina, Baha Fresh, Chinese buffet and Ming Hing, Mexican, and others. Lower taxes than many of the surrounding area and I could go on.An-Old-Fan;1754166 wrote:Never said you could not have an opinion of them as an employer, but as far as the schools and community goes I would think it should only be "THANK YOU".
