Wayne County Athletic League Football 2015

Tough losses for Norwayne and Waynedale tonight ... But the Chipps live on ... thanks to great defense late to prevent a tying score by Lake ... Good luck again to Smithville v Columbia Station ...

Tough loss for the Bears! Swanton was not the better team in this game the Bears should of had them. Bears did not take advantage of the middle of the field where the safety was non existent. Once again keeping senior players off the field that have played all year when you needed fresh legs was a huge mistake in my opinion. Very proud of the boys pulling themselves back out of the hole but in this case sorry to say but the coaches failed to stick with what was working and with no disrespect for any of the kids who played their hearts out regardless of who you are if you are not ma king plays move on to the next best kid. The ball should of been in Strausbaugh's hands more. We needed to capitalize on Swanton's inability to get set on defense and we needed to run a quicker offense. I hope some change comes to this program next year it would be nice. On a side note if wcalfan is our towel boy he should never see the field again DISGUSTING!

I was not at the game nor do I have any information other than the daily record. Sounds like running out of the pistol got the Bears back in the game. Four turnovers in a game is impossible to overcome. The fact the Bears came so close is a tribute to their effort and the coaches making the calls.
Really surprised the Bobcats lost. That was a shame because I felt they had the best chance to get far.
Good luck to the Chipps and Smithies as the carry the Wayne County torch.

This was a really great post .... UNTIL you had to drag some personal ego into it, I do not care who you are but this crap has got to stop ... grow up ... all you had to do was leave the last line out. Seriously.

Not so sure it was out of line! Time to go into hiding for wcalfan, friend said it was X's & O's up at Swanton last night, and I'm sure the Waynedale fans have seen the out come of that for the last 10 years. Wcalfan, please can we have some of your insightful insight.
At this time of the year I invite wcalfan to come watch a well coached game, but not this year, I do not think I could set through a game with him. Good Luck to the fans at Waynedale I hear that family affair has ran its course over there. It will take time to rebuild but you will be fine.

What position has the ball in his hands every play? I'm not talking about the center! That's always been my opinion as to why #32 should have run the offense! Not saying #4 is a bad player, but the offense would have been more effective when it counted with #32 at QB, #4, #3, #26, and #10 at Receiver, and the brothers at RB. It's easier to get your best player involved via a direct snap than having to pass the ball. This would also reduce turnovers, and help the defense with longer time of possession. Again just an opinion, but someone will view this as an attack. Hats off to the Bears for not giving up, and fighting to the end. Good luck in the future to a talented senior class.

It was nice to see the Chipps defense rally when it needed to. It sure looked like Smithville all over, but they pulled it together and had a great stand inside the 5. The play calling on offense was excellent. The running game was effective, and they took their shots at the right times. On a side note, the clock operation by the officiating crew was the worst I've seen at the playoff level.

I thought that sophomore had one of the scores, and then Tipple had the other three. Was that not correct? Anyone have a box score?

Earlier in this topic, I did mention that Smithville might have gotten lucky in the matchup, as they were playing a team who really hadn't been tested this year. For better or worse, the WCAL was something of a gauntlet this year. Wasn't your average year with maybe three good teams and five rebuilding teams. I think that really helped Smithville in this matchup.

Also, they kicked a fieldgoal? That's a little out of character for the Smithies, but I suppose I can't complain. It means points.

The one thing that did surprise me tonight was the goose. Smithville's defense has been their saving grace in a few games this year, but I really didn't expect them to shut a playoff team out. Big props to them. Held Columbia to a pretty modest total offensive yardage total ... maybe 175? Impressive at this stage.

Can't say I expected the win, but I was certainly cheering for them as I listened to the game on the radio. Hoping they can build off this next week!

Agree with the late effort; could have quit with everything working against them.
One thing I think really goes unnoticed is the play at safety of #12. Sure everyone recognizes what a threat on offense, but he is without question the QB on defense as well. He always seems to come up with a big pick, or tackle. I know most view Miller as the player of the year in the league, and he put up huge numbers, and was the Cats bell cow, but I think Britenstein is the MVP. That kid dominates on both sides of the ball, and never takes a play off. Again, I'd love to have either player on my team, but I think what separates the two is the defensive side of the ball.

Tipple had three one yard TD runs, and the fourth was with 5:26 in the the third. Not sure how long the last one was.

In any case, this is why they moved to eight teams in the playoffs per region:

    In Region 19:

    Seeds 1-4: 1 win
    Seeds 5-8: 3 wins

It is just a typical game for the Chipps ... Ref's everywhere have it in for us ... it always seems to be some lopsided unheard of penalty ... They called us for 12 on the field and Lake hadn't even come off the sideline to huddle yet ...

I think I mentioned that when Chipps played Columbia Station two years back they were 10-0 but did not play us as though they belonged there and they were seeded #1 to Chipps #8.

Yes that was a terrible call.....however some of the Chipp faithful gets a little carried away with officiating at times, and using them as excuses for poor play. If you watched the clock during the final possession, the refs let the clock run almost 20 seconds prior to starting the play clock which benefited the Chipps. I agree there are times when officiating can seem uneven, but they don't miss tackles, or impact effort. It gets old hearing the ref sentiment at times.

Sorry you took offense to what I said! My point is that if this person is someone who is so closely involved with our team and the players there is no need to be on here what so ever! The disgusting part is not to start anything as someone who should be seen as a role model and leader there comments and opinion should not be a part of any thread. Let alone the things he has said! Otherwise I am very passionate about the Bears and I have no intent to feed into any bull!

Honestly, this is why I like the current setup. Yeah, a team might squeak in with a pretty timid schedule, but those teams won't get far, AND it does prevent teams from scheduling completely patty-cake teams week after week to try to guarantee themselves a 10-0 season. I recall my senior year, there were a few oddities that had people wondering at the ranking system. It was the first, and to my knowledge only, time a 10-0 team missed the playoffs under the 8-team playoff format (Newcomerstown). That same year was also the first, and again to my knowledge only, time a 3-win team made the playoffs (Walsh Jesuit finished as the 7-seed with a record of 3-6 ... and even won their first playoff game).

I like it, though. Some teams play a gauntlet schedule, and five tough wins with that kind of schedule might just be worth more than 10 wins against the Little Sisters of the Blind.

What an appropriate name...Sad Bear (gotta believe related to Mama Bear somehow). Getting on here and pointing fingers at coaches and, YES, players even though you try to add your disclaimer is not very productive. THIS is the problem with Waynedale football and unfortunately, our athletics in general. Do me a favor Mr. or Mrs. Sad...talk to one of our administrators at middle school/high school level or better yet go right to the top and ask him...just once do this and ask them what sticks out the most about our people?....what is different between us and the other surrounding school communities?... You will be appalled and SADdened at what they say when they compare us to other schools....APPALLED and SADDENED!

P.S. Towel boy huh? Please junior...I've been over this many times on here and I am not who you think I am.

Not going anywhere hero...I am sure people will get on here during our winter sports and talk about "politics" and "favoritism" because we actually have TWO dads that coach their sons in those sports. So I will just continue to fight for our hard working, caring, and COMMITTED coaches/players and I will NEVER let up. Again, it is just a SAD situation over here and sooner or later our "fans" will hopefully SUPPORT what our coaches/players are trying to do.

You actually bring up good points and I don't see this as an attack at all. I completely agree with you that #32 is our best weapon...when healthy. Please don't say I am talking bad about him when I say this but really take a look at how many plays/games he is not playing because of an injury. He missed 2 games this year and multiple games over his career. I would say with pretty good confidence that he missed at least 25% of the games/plays that he should have played. Again, I am guessing but I would almost guarantee you that I am pretty accurate with that statement. So that means that he is out of our lineup 1 out of every 4 downs. How can we build an offense around a player that is injury prone? Seriously? AGAIN...do NOT get on here and say I am knocking him because I feel bad for a kid that is injury prone. It is not his choice and I know that. AND, think about this...he has missed 25% of games when he is getting "limited" (according to the experts on here) touches. What happens when he touches the ball on EVERY play? I am not a sports doctor but I am guessing that 25% now becomes 35-40%...I don't know but I bet I am close. How can the coaches build an offense around a player, knowing that the player that "has the ball in his hands every play" will NOT be in on every play? How can there be any consistency?

Please don't post on here that I'm a coach or a dad or whatever because of what I just posted...I am just a true fan with inside information that NONE of you on here have and that's ok...please don't be an idiot to me when I say that...I am just stating a FACT. Please do some research on here and look at my posts over the years and you will see what the problem is here at Waynedale...it's been an epidemic for a long time and we just don't want to admit it and try to cure it (read my response to Sad Bear earlier)...SAD! GO BEARS!

Also...good luck to the Chipps and Smithies.

Understand what your saying. As I said before don't follow Waynedale closely, I'm just basing opinion on seeing them play 6 or so times over past couple of years. My opinion is based how talented, and how hard #32 plays (probably why often banged up). Last comment is, I have no ill feelings for the program, staff, or players, but it puzzles me why this team never reached its potential for whatever reason. That senior class had some excellent athletes.

It is puzzling and I wish I knew that answer completely...but I will say this...in football especially, you can't just rely on 1 class...there has to be support and I am not sure we have had that luxury...again not knocking kids just stating facts.
