Of course. I don't live in Wayne County anymore. I actually live in the Akron North school district, and even though North is a trainwreck this year (even more than last year), I was proud of the WCAL's showing against them, given that they're a D2 school. But honestly, I'm proud of every WCAL team that has a respectable showing against a non-conference opponent, so I feel a certain camaraderie with everyone on here. I like when we get along. :)

I would hate to fall victim to Rittman yet again.
Very "insightful"...:RpS_mellow: Thank you for not going on for a "long time"...by the way the halftime score at Northwestern was 7-7 (final score 28-7)...unfortunately, we never led in that game. With supportive fans like you things can only get better...(awkward silence)...ummmm...Go Bears?

MamaBear ... I believe my post was in regard to the Smithies v Chipps ... sorry if this caught a nerve with you

Didn't mean to riot the Chipp faithful.

What I was saying, was that if you look at his twitter, from his scrimmage weeks until now, he is always telling the opposing team good luck the rest of the way to that coach. Look back and tell me if he sends any to Norwayne or Smithville. Seems a little butt hurt if you ask me.

Also I am in no way taking anything away from the guy, he is a good coach and has done well over there.

Wizard, I went to that game because I knew it was going to be a good game and wanted to see the match up, by the way I am not a scout, just a fan of football and occasionally like to see another team when it is supposed to be a good game, unfortunately I was very far away but saw the interaction between the coach and parent, I didn't know the parent was drunk as you mentioned.

I will go back to reading and not posting I suppose.

    Go Smithies!

It's Friday!!! are we ready for some Football! Going to the Smithville\Dalton game and it is Senior Night! The league has some great games again this week! The playoffs are just around the corner and so the games take on a "do or die" type mentality. The weather is going to be perfect! Go and enjoy your favorite team!

Fun little update: We shouldn't be seeing Joe Eitel's website crash next Friday. I got an email from him this morning, and he's beefed up his server, so it should be able to handle the load of the increased traffic.

So no having to sit there and hit F5 to see if my Smithies make it. :D

Dalton is really struggling this season. Were they expected to be this bad? Any talent coming up through the pipeline? This is a program that was a perennial power in the WCAL for several decades and doesn't seem to be anywhere close to competing for league titles anytime soon.
For what it's worth here's my observation...Dalton's coaching staff is in complete disarray.
Kids playing out of position - Yes, I realize that we've had more than our fair share of injuries, but we need to put the 11 best we have on the field. Quit worrying about upsetting a Jr or Sr if you play a younger kid.
Play calling - We run the same 5 or 6 plays all night and we run them out of a formation that's suited for a type of athlete we do not have.
Game management - From the moment we run on the field till the very end we do not look ready to play. Before the game there is no fire in our team and coaches. Once the game starts our coaches are constantly on their heels. It seems they're never sure what to do next. Coach constantly placing the blame on the players. I realize that sometimes the player is at fault but a good coach should support his players instead of tossing them under the bus.
No buy-in - Good coaches sell their program to the kids and goods kids will buy. It's hard for kids to buy-in to a program when it changes every year.

So 187xovr, to answer your questions. Nobody really expected us to be this bad this year. Losing Fitzwater early caused a downward spiral. The sophomore class is loaded. Many are playing on Friday night this year. They will only get better. After them the cupboard is bare until the 7th graders hit HS.

With all that being said it's time for a change at Dalton. We need to go outside the school to get a new coach. Doty has had 5 years and he holds the worst 5-year record in history. 16 and 32 in 5 seasons. I realize we're a small school and we're not gonna get a big name coach. We need to get someone who will install a football program from Youth through HS, get kids excited about playing football, and command respect from his players.

I figured some people had to be feeling this way. I only attend a few games each year, but I've heard people comment about how poor the program has become. I've heard the attendance at off season activities (conditioning, weight lifting, films, etc.) is next to nothing. Last year's seniors were dominant in junior high........just like this year's sophomores. It seems like the current staff doesn't know how to continue to improve those talented players/teams. When is the last time Dalton has actually non renewed a coach? Potopsky? Will they actually replace Doty, or will he have to resign? From what I have heard, he would make a fantastic assistant on somebody's staff. Not everyone is cut out to be a head coach. Every year of this downward spiral will make it that much tougher for the next coach to turn it around.

I think Dalton missed their opportunity to get that kind of coach when the job was not offered to Baum...just an outsiders opinion!

If Baum wanted the Dalton job, he definitely should've been brought on board. They better not make the same mistake twice if the opportunity presents itself. It will be tough for Baum, or anyone else, to win at North Canton. Who knows if he would be interested in returning at this point.

Was a nail biter for a while with the turnovers! Need to play 4 quarters! After seeing Dalton & Smithville score, makes last weeks let down even harder to swallow. Oh well on to the Huskies!

Was topsy turvey in the first half but the punt return for a TD really turned it around for the Chipps and gave them the fire they needed ... Have to credit their defense for excellent goal line defense ... After 6 attempts to score TD the Falcons had to settle for FG ( I really question the roughing the kicker call, don't think it would have been called anywhere else) ... this is the team we have been looking for this year and they showed up tonight ... Sorry Hillsdale for eliminating you from playoff contention.

Senior leadership is special, especially when the younger kids buy into the program and no where is it more evident than Norwayne. Stika and Miller are leaders, and the junior class is loaded with talent. Makes for a winning formula. 8 of the starters on defense are underclassman, and its the defense that has been so strong this year. The scores dont tell the story. Last 16 qtrs starters only gave up 1 td. Could it end quickly? Maybe But the first goal has been achieved so now the rest is icing on the cake. Team was picked 4/5, been a great year in Creston!

When I picked Norwayne to win the league it was for a few reasons. First, they have the best back in the league. Second, they have good line play on both sides of the ball. Lastly they have a dual threat QB.
This is a team that was challenged once in the league by the Bears. There is no reason they can't make a deep playoff run.
  • oldsmithie
Congrats to the Bobcats! Smithville played a very uninspired game last night! The Smithies went up 28-7 early in the 3rd quarter and then let Dalton come roaring back! Dalton played a great game and came close to the upset. Anyone know why Tipple was out of the game last night? He sure was missed! Smithville needs to keep their heads in the game, too much sloppy play last night!! If Smithville does not play well next week, Waynedale will kick the crap out of them!! I expected more from the Smithies this late in the season.

From what I hear, the running game is going to suffer immensely.
