They lost Dreher and losing him kills them period. In years previous they could have survived with the line and backs.they had. If wallace goes down they still had plenty of weapons and still win with their running game and they had a defense to stop people. This year they lose the best athlete in Wayne County and still win with Dreher at the helm with out a running game and defense. He is definitely a difference maker for them and a great kid. Not cocky like the previous qb nor does his dad go around bragging about everything he does like wallaces dad did. He still does it and mostly everyone is sick of him. Well good luck to NW and the chipps as they go on.

In the past I have made the comment that the only player that Norwayne could not afford to lose was Dreher and last night proved it. It's too bad we didnt get to see what the outcome would have been had he stayed healthy. I'd like to congratulate Joe on a great career. That being said, how bout those Norwayne coaches. Last night proved what I've been saying all along. The staff was in total disarray when Dreher went down. The entire first half was a debacle. I would be shocked if Jeremy Miller has taken a snap in practice all year. They've gotten away with not repping a back up QB for 4 years and it finally caught up with them. It's safe to say the record setters are now gone at Norwayne. Let's see what this staff is made of starting next year. It's time to earn the praise they've been receiving. I hope last night was not an indicator of what's coming in the future.

    Congrats to the HUSKIES!

What can I say but nice win northwestern. Joe going down in the first play never allowed this game to play out the way it should have. But that's part if football and if Norwayne was the better team they would have dealt with it, but the did not

Hope nothing but the best for northwestern

    Go Cats!!!

i think it would be a debacle if any county team lost their starting qb the first play of the game...not sure how many have a true backup (that is varsity ready) to step in

didn't i read in the paper that miller still threw for over 100 yards?

congrats to the huskies and chipps and best of luck in representing the county in the playoffs!

great years for the Chipps and Bears. The Bears had a few injuries and overcame as a team. In addition to Chippewa and Waynedale, who can challenge for the title next year? NW will be way down. Norwayne has numbers. We keep hearing Dalton and Smithville are loaded in the lower grades? Are they really? What about Hillsdale? They were a major disappointment. And poor Rittman. They need a total overhaul.
    Good luck Chipps and huskies!!!

It was great to watch Waynedale go 6-4! The touchdown by Mike Halliwell last night was great. And just like I said, the JV kicker can kick PATs. The kid made 5 last night. So now who do you go with next year? The soccer player or the football player? Pros and cons to either?

i couldnt't help feeling some excitement for the chipps on Saturday morning - that was a very long dry spell. Kudos to matt zuercher fro righting the ship as well. This year's wcal was definitely a lot deeper than the last few years, although obviously not as good at the top. Really everyone outside of Smithville and Rittman was dangerous and that sure makes the season a whole lot more fun. Was a disappointing season for Dalton as they had more talent than a 3 win team - while definitely not a playoff team, they were talented enough to have 5 or 6 wins. Mistake after mistake in key situations all season long. I don't think they had that vocal leader to follow that helps you close out tough games. I actually think it will be fairly deep in the WCL next year, but I still don't think anyone will be elite. As far as Dalton goes, they will have a solid crop of seniors to form the core of the team. The junior-to-be class only has a few players and will not contribute a whole lot next year. The freshman class will be very talented and the sophomores are pretty good as well. With the small junior class, they will need contributions from the sophomores to be successful.

Well just got back into town and got caught back up on things. Congrats Northwestern on your WCAL Crown and good luck in they playoffs.

Now on to Norwayne, I put complete blame on the Head Coach!!!! How in the name of all things that are football Holy you not have a second string QB varsity ready?????? To me that is crazy, out of all the players you have on that team you cant find one person that you could get ready. I understand that it would be hard to find a replacement for Dhrer(SP) but you have to have somebody that could step in. The Miller boy did an outsanding job, but he is a running back and not a QB. I think this puts a end to the conversation, "our Norwayne Coaches good Coaches?". I think they just walked into a situation 4 years ago that even a blind squirrel could have one a State Championship with. The talent was there. from what I understand people said when those two classes where in pee wee that they would do great things in High School.
Sorry for the rant but I feel bad for the players. Take nothing away from Northwestern, they are a good football team and deserved the win, but to not have somebody that would be able to step in and at least run the Offense is unreal!!!!! Maybe its time for a change at Norwayne? 7-3 is not a bad record at all and most teams would take it, but that is very poor coaching on the Head Coach.

Sorry also a big CONGRATS to The Chipps on their fine season and also good luck in the playoffs..

Now somebody start a WCAL Basketball Thread so I can get caught up on that!!!!

I believe Chippewa was the last team that hadn't yet made the playoffs in the 2000s. As I recall, they won the WCAL in 1999, and they made the playoffs that year (anyone remember how they fared?).

Is that correct? I believe Rittman made it a couple times in the 2004-2007 range, which was the only other one I could think of. The rest are virtually obvious, I think.

If so, congratulations to the Chipps for not only a fine regular season, but also congratulations for making the playoffs. Good luck, and represent the WCAL well!
  • pdracer
In regards to the Norwayne QB issue, I was told the the two JV QB's had already been injured. No idea if this is true or just an excuse, but that's what I was told.

I believe they won their first game, and then got blasted about 64-0 by Mooney.

not 100% sure, but I think they beat Martins Ferry in the playoff opener 24-14 or something close to that.

    You're correct.

And then they got trounced by Mooney 61-0. (page 5 in the PDF below)

hey bobcat14 who would you have liked to see back there since you know so much about the roster?

both back up qbs were indeed hurt as i spoke to a reliable source also the other backup qb was harriss and from what i heard they did not want to put him in at qb because of his injury and his future... call me dumb but i think that was a good call on their part not to ruin his career by just sticking him back there injured against a very good northwestern defense

Did time tell? You have been a friggin GHOST!!!! What's your take on the ending of the season? The play of the team? The Coaching? The FANS? Did you approve of Mr Kings behavior...or the folks around him?

You are so brave as to jump the shark when appealing, however you dont pass the kudo's or back pts when deserved.

SMH.....I even Private Messaged you and you won't answer...so I ask here?

Also, If you can distinguish your answer, and respond accordingly, Im NOT happy with a 6-4 team. These Bears could've been 9-1/8-2...But with a few kids averaging 7-10 yds a carry, we pass the ball!!!!!!!!!!! Coach is a Math Teacher and VERY intelligent. However, whe you have tht type of average rushing, why in the world do you attempt to pass on Triway, inside the 30 on 3 consec possessions? Why do you pass on Norwaynes (2) D-1 recruit WR/DB, to go down 20-0? 20-6? and why do you PASS on Chipps inside the 30 on....well. I'll just stop. That diatribe should bring wcalfan out of his cave. 8-2...9-1!
Still dont beat teams we could, and lose games we shouldnt!
  • oldsmithie
Northwestern and Loudonville should be a great game! I actually think that Chippewa could hang with Columbia. Triway hosts Wauseon and I don't know much about Wauseon? On a side note I think Manchester gets hammered by Ursuline.
  • Bobcat
First off I'd like to wish luck to Northwestern and Chippewa this weekend.

Secondly, I'm guessing by the passion that we are seeing that "oh yeah" is more than likely one of Norwayne's coaches. Rather then beating around the bush why dont you tell us how it actually unfolded. I'm sorry coach the blame for this one goes on you guys. In the last 4 years that we've been on a roll I dont recall seeing one back up QB come into a game and do more then hand the ball off. I've complained about this in the past. What is wrong with repping a QB with the first string for a couple series' and see what he can do. No, we destroy a team in the first half. Sit the 1's in the second half and watch the back up hand the ball off. I would guess that Miller did not take a snap in practice all of last week. What about Trevahn Beery? I heard from several sources he was a QB through 9th grade. Anyone could tell when Dreher went down that there wasn't a back up plan. For being an elite coaching staff, you guys fumbled this one.
