2013 Wayne County Athletic League Football

  Bobcat- Couldn't agree more on the Maltrich thing, but where Harbour should get credit is allowing his assistants to coach! Vinnie and Jude understand this offense and Harbour allowed it to prosper. If you watch him on the sidelines he manages the game well and gets after the ones that need it. To me that's all you can ask. Evaluate your talent and develop an offense that fits your players. Next year with 4 returning lineman and 2 backups along with Miller, Wheeland, and Jones in the backfield you will probably see something that resembles the team Wallace lead his sophomore year. Let young Harris 6'5 Weiman 6'4 and Zollinger 6'2 and Sattlemyer 6'2 develop. I don't think there are slim pickings after this year. Lets remember until 2 years ago the 1st team goal was to play for and win a WCAL championship, and Friday night the Cats have a chance to do that.

  Not sure on the coach thing. Im still not sold on Harbour, these are Malt's boys but under Harbours system. Harb. broughta state title that Malt may not have brought, But NOW...in the next year or two, we see Joe's system, (if he don't leave). Thut? Well...IDK.   Didn't Northwestern play Waynedale without Weaver? I think that is a huge difference and the Bears are a much different team without Weaver in the backfield he could arguably be in the running for MVP of the conference. So to say adjustments were made between Northwestern and Norwayne is comparing apples to oranges at this point.

  Wallace's sophomore year I think the team was 5 - 5 and not real good. The coaching was terrible then. The key to that team is what they developed into. The offense that Norwayne ran then was geared toward Wallaces ability to run the football. He was not a very good passer until later in his career. He was , however, a very efficient runner. Had he not developed into the passer he was later in his career Norwayne would not have had the success they had in 2010 and 2011. He was the perfect blend for that team. It didnt hurt that he was sorrounded by many big time players. Last year Dreher walked into what I think was the best overall team Norwayne's had. I know that sounds funny but it's my opinion. Norwayne wont have alot of success with a rookie QB with what they have returning next year. What will they develop in to? It's hard to fathom them being anywhere near what we've witnessed the last couple of years......I guess we can hope

  When comparing Norwaynes 2011 & 2012 teams, I think one factor is exceedingly clear....Wallace & his dual threat ability to pass or run.
  
  Dreher is a great QB, a better passer than Wallace and deserves all the accolades he receives. The thing he couldn't do was get the Cats out of 3rd/4th & long situations by shaking off tackle attempts from the DE, then outrunning the LBs for the 1st down. Wallace seemed to have an uncanny ability to do that (Hillsdale, Girard & Kenton games come to mind)
  
  The 2012 version of the Cats was even more talented IMO, but when the opponent had the athletes to match, Norwayne didn't have the QB scrambling ability to make something from nothing consistently enough to get by St. Clairesville. Again, Dreher is a great all state QB, just came up short on the broken scrambling plays.
  
  This years game with Northwestern?...I like Norwayne. The Cats probably aren't going to the playoffs (18% chance according to Pasteur) that's gotta be firing them up, Harris and his big play ability are back and they can still get a piece of the WCAL title. The Huskies, meanwhile, have clinched a playoff spot and already have a share of the title. Northwestern also has some serious issues with penalties and turnovers. They have been "out talenting" other teams. Not sure they can "out talent" the combinations of Dreher/Harris/Berry/Davis.
  
  This should be a good game as Northwestern's rushing attack wears out defenses and eats clock, while Norwayne's passing attack can score in a hurry.
  Being a NWN fan, I'm hoping the Huskies can go to week 11 on a winning note, but I have a feeling Norwayne will prevail as this is most likely their last ride in 2013.

  67% chance with a win over NW. Chipps are at 87% or so for the 8th spot (with a win), but I think that's if NW beats NOR. Unfortunately, it looks like it's between Chipps and Cats for the last spot. The 18% is because Pasteur favors the Huskies by 10.

  In a couple scenarios, Norwayne winning actually helps the Chipps. What would really help both teams... is 7-2 Huron losing to 8-1 Clyde. And 6-3 Liberty Center losing to 6-3 Archbold. Then it is possible for the WCAL to have 3 qualifiers. Loudonville will almost certainly win. Their 2nd level points will determine where they end up.

  I don't understand the whole thing very well, but it looks like Huron is almost a lock even with a loss and Liberty Center needs a win over Archbold - and the Bobcats and Chipps to both lose. I'd love to see 3 WCAL teams plus Loudonville make it, though.

  They really do have a chance. With Harris on the field I think they feel they can beat anyone. Nothing like a bunch of kids and the mental basket cases they are

  I think all the rain we will get today might just play a factor in the outcome of this game. A wet soggy field is going to negate some of the speed and will play into the hands of the team that can power the ball down the field. Just 2 years ago the same weather conditions played a huge factor in Smithville upsetting Norwayne. If we have similar conditions tomorrow, Northwesterns ball control offense might just make a difference.

  I look for the Cats to win this game. It should be a shootout but I'm taking the Cats. I just dont think Northwestern will be able to cover the WR's and Dreher is now a seasoned vet. You dont throw for 6 or 7000 yards in 2 years by mistake. Everything is on the line for Norwayne. I look for them to step up.

  It will be dry tomorrow most of the day. I think Norwayne has the edge. They have more to play for and want to prove they have some fight left. I say 34-26 Bobcats. This should be a classic. I plan on getting there early.

  Ah well..another year of the WCAL winding down. Should be a classic tonight between Norwayne and Northwestern.
  
  And it's always good to see the Bears on the upswing and the Smithies finishing another season 1-9. I'm sure Schrock and his boys will do a victory celebration somewhere tonight after Smithville drops their finale to Dalton.

  Well that was a big disappointment. Norwayne QB goes down early and NW roles to an easy win. The biggest difference between this and the past couple teams was the lack of a running game and no depth. Surprised how this season ended. NW was not a big surprise but who knew the Chipps would finish second in the league and Waynedale finishes 6-4. Chipps and Bears look to be the teams to beat next fall.
  Time to enjoy some good playoff games first!
