Campbell Memorial Red Devils Off Season Thread! 2013

Let's put it this way: if this staff were to leave they would first need a place to leave for. Thus far I believe there is just one opening in the area, which is at LaBrae. As this past season unfolded, I was starting to get the impression that the current staff has had enough of the discipline issues they have had to deal with for the last two years. The team went from 45 players on the roster at the start of the season to 28 by the end of the season. That, and seeing how poorly conditioned some of these kids were, along with an obvious lack of senior leadership sounded an alarm for me. That being said, if the person we have been hearing about would ever return I am sure he realizes that it's a different era than 15-20 years ago. The one advantage he would have is the fact that he would be in the high school for the entire school day. Even with that factor added into the mix, I am not sure if there is anyone who could do a better job at handling the problems some of these kids present each and every day. Campbell has changed a great deal from the glory days of the 80's and early 90's.

i will be very disappointed if he doesnt leave. but dean is right hes got to find somewhere to go. once again we are just a stepping stone. hes waiting for hubbard to open up. if something opens up this offseason he will apply. hell leeave if he can. if he doesnt its because he cant not because he doesnt want to .

hey how about a new d coordinator? a new o coordinator? just trying to think outside the box lol obviously the assistants are terrible.

That's a great question, Soup. Well, OMH, how good were we? Or have you forgotten already?

We were terrible. A laughing stock. There is no question that Bayuk and Sikora have made the program respectable again. But how far do we expect the program to advance? Are winning conference championships and making the playoffs good enough? Is it reasonable to think that Campbell can win a regional championship without playing the aggressive, physical style of football that it was known for under Coach Rozum? I have watched many playoff games over the past few years, both local and throughout the state. And as I watched teams advance deeper into the playoffs there is one thing that all of the successful programs have. They are physical, disciplined, hard-nosed teams with good senior leadership. In my opinion, unless Campbell can develop those things in its program, the team will advance no further than week one or week two of the playoffs. Without these important factors in place, there are still chances where Campbell will make the playoffs. But it will only as a lower seed with little chance of ever seeing a first round home game. Campbell needs to beat the better teams on its schedule so we do not have to wait until the day after the season ends to find out if we are the 8th seed or are eliminated. I am not satisfied with that.

we were awful. this staff did a great job. but it all really comes down to this...are you willing to accept mediocrity? are you willing to accept giving up 60 pts to brookfield? i see a 6-4 record but what do we really see on the field? is this really a tough schedule? do these teams compare with any of the good teams? how bout this...sikoras best team would lose to the 87 team by 4 tds. thats a fact. i am not willing to settle for that, we can do better. we can have the glory days again. we can i believe that. i see a struthers team making big strides in a single year. lets be honest, the only difference between john ryan and sikora is an all state running back.

I don't see any passion from Campbell kids anymore. I just don't. Haven't since 2009-2010 seasons.
I'm not sure what it is, maybe it's the mass exodus of original Campbell folk to other parts of the valley.... Maybe it's property values. Whatever is it. These kids don't remind me of Campbell kids.

I agree. I agree coach done a lot for the program. But he has to get a grip on the kids in the off season before the problems get started. He is not in the school to do that. Is Carny still in the school? If so whats he doing/ Sitting on his rear? Indeed Struthers Impressed the hell out of me. And i really didn't think they would be better then 3 wins. And i sure as hell didn't think they stand a chance against what i thought was a well conditioned team. To be successful enough to just be good is not enough for me. I want to see our teams beat the snot out of the others into submission. What turn me off was the Devil Jumping Jacks after the Struthers win a few years back.. Leave our damn tradition alone.

My guess is the staff will remain intact except for a possible change at offensive coordinator. And I stress possible. The entire staff may remain the same, meaning it will be the same as this past season. I haven't heard anything. This is just my take on things.

After watching the Struthers game, I left in the beginning of the 3rd quarter. The playcalling, penalties, mental mistakes and the walking off the field instead of jogging, is a joke. It looked like the Devils were out of shape. To win big games, you have to prepare well and I didn't see it that night. It was an under-achieving football team.

    Who is replacing Reyes?
  • omemorialhigh
what ive been screaming for awhile sooner, but it falls on deaf ears. never settle for mediocrity. you get what you put into it. the walking off the field would require some form of discipline ha! im not holding my breath. when you havent dealt with inner city kids youre a little intimidated and think befriending them is the best way to keep the peace. well its not. these kids need discipline like everyone else. when you let the crazies run the asylum this is what you get. lets not even start on fundamental football skills. boy have we fallen behind. like i said...sikora is john ryan with jales hughes.

can we get a bball thread going? heard the devils have been down...can the devils keep it within a 20 pt game with struthers this weekend? got a friendly bet going hes giving me 20 pts
  • oldschoolreddev
John Ryan had a tougher schedule and wasn't in a league.
  • soupcitysoldier
    very true.
  • soupcitysoldier
bball team will be much improved, hard working bunch. but lets be realistic they won 2 games last year and this is the first time theyve received any type of coaching in 2 years. its a work in progress, but you will see hard working that will consistently get better. really dont have any seniors and have one of the best 10th grade classes in recent memory. struthers will be a more polished team in an established system. campbell should play them tough.
  • Spread All Day
Struthers bball might not win a game LOL
  • Spread All Day
Correction: CMHS bball might not win a game.
  • soupcitysoldier
haha no seniors that get any real pt...3 10th graders that get serious pt and more coming. well be just fine, this is the first time any of these kids have had any real coaching. they had a gym teacher coach them last year. theyll be just fine. loaded 10th grade class, need to learn how to play with kids alot older and stronger at this pt. but theyll be ok. tough schedule will get them ready for league play and tourney.
  • oldschoolreddev
This bball team is yoyng, but the play with heart like a Campbell team is supposed to.
  • omemorialhigh
yes i agree oldschool. campbell people will respect a hard working team. big win over howland last night where no one gave them a chance.
  • reddevil90
The BB team is a very good team. Just need to believe in each other. And it showed in a emotional win over Howland...

As Far as Football goes don't think for a second that this year will be any different then any other. Wont happen. As far as i see it. we are getting worse. two very talent teams 2 years in a row. And what do we have from it? I feel by the time he is done and leaves there will be no talent left for the next coach. and the next two years i was under the impression was the talent is very good. Then its suppose to drop off. Could not even field one of the 8th or 9th grade teams from what i heard. Wish we had a better defensive and offensive coach at least.

Word is that since Coach Zetts will be retiring from teaching in the fall, he will not be coaching anywhere this fall.....so Devil fans, you'll get to rip a new OC in 2013....
  • soupcitysoldier
thank god, i really got turned off by him when he referred to "we" as struthers and "you guys" as campbell. i understand hes a struthers guy through and through but try to be a little more discrete when your coaching campbell kids and struthers handed you your lunch 2 years in a row partly because of your own efforts or lack thereof.
