Campbell Memorial Red Devils Off Season Thread! 2013

I don't know much about Girard but i assume they'll be good. Lakeview will be loaded and Brookfield is bringing a lot back from an 8-2 team. Liberty has that RB back who was very good so i assume they'll be good again and Jefferson? Who knows.

obviously this is a good hire but you have to wonder will Coach Rozum be able to reach these kids long term....the Campbell community has changed significantly over the last 13-14 years since he was last the coach. I do believe the discipline will be much improved but with what they have coming back at the high school level and junior high level, even if they are able to keep all those kids in uniform, they are still in for a long road. He will have to build that program back up which will take a few years minimum. As far as their schedule it is difficult. Brookfield gets a few kids back but they lose a few very significant players including the kid who accounted for all the offense against Campbell a year ago. LaBrae gets 10 starters back on defense and 8 on offense and they beat Campbell a year ago. Lakeview gets the majority of their offense back, especially at skill so they will be good again. Liberty has Bowden...they lose nearly everyone else who was a significant contributor from a very large senior class but when you get a kid like him back you know they will be good...Girard loses a lot and their young kids haven't been good the last couple of years but their staff always seems to get them ready to compete...I hate to say this but 3-7 might be what they are looking at here realistically, maybe 4-6 if Coach is able to get the absolute best out of them but this is going to be a long road back.

I believe Coach Rozum is aware of the situation he is getting into. Otherwise he would not have applied for the job. I believe Coach Rozum wants to hang around for a long run this time. That being said, I believe the makeup of the coaching staff will be a factor as to how quickly the program can become a force again. It's true, the community has changed plenty, as have the kids, many of whom are not Campbell raised kids. Some say that makes no difference. I say it makes a great deal of difference. But that is just my opinion. Rozum will have to reach kids who have little or no knowledge of the past successes during his previous coaching stints at Campbell. Rozum's teams were known for their physical style of play. And that physical style has been absent for several years. He has to get the kids into the weightroom and working hard. Rozum has always placed a great deal of emphasis on conditioning.

I believe a winning record is realistic. Call me crazy.

Nah not Crazy. He took the 99 team undefeated, And that was with hardly any time cause the coach called it quits with doubles about to start. And those team before and after 99 was nothing to write home about! the 1999 Red Devils showed a lot of what Rozum can bring to the table. But he is missing 2 very big parts of his coaching staff that made those teams he coached a hard hitting can score at will typr pf teams that the Mahoning and surrounding teams feared. It will be interesting. You are only as good as the players and your coaching staff. But i know rozum will pick the right ones for the job. And yes who knows what kind of team will hit the field this year. But i promise you this much. You will not see the same ol same ol!.,

I hear Rozum has been putting a world of hurt on the Devils at weightlifting.

    Who are Rozum's assistants?

Um i know who they are. I just dont want to put it out there. But i will say we are in good hands for the first time in 20 something years. I dont expect much this season. There are gonna be a "lot of changes that the swaggers are not gonna like one bit". I promise you this. we will be lucky to field more the 20 this year if you ask me. And then those who think they're just gonna skate along like they did the last few years won't be on the team. Those are the ones who think they can skip conditioning and a few weeks of doubles and then just join the party. Im looking forward to this years team win or lose. Its gonna be fun to watch a devils team that will be built on tradition again.

What's the big deal about filling me in on the assistants? lol

Can't change mentality... its not 1990 anymore. But i hope he can

LOL i was asked not too. I am not the only one who knows who they are. But it has not been made public yet. Or it would have been on here by now. And no its not 1990 anymore. But we are in better shape than we could have ever possibly better been in since!

No came up very very short of reaching the state game that year. 1989 we did make state only to lose to a very good Ironton tigers team.

    This is very amusing.

We can't list the assistants because of two reasons. 1. The staff is not yet complete. 2. Those who are "helping out" have to be approved by the board of education before anything becomes official. There is no sense throwing names onto the forum until things become official. The only thing that's official is that Ed Rozum is the head coach. I can tell you for certain that numbers are up in the weightroom and the kids are getting stronger under a structured conditioning program that has been put into place by Coach Rozum.

No. He will graduate this June.
  • Spread All Day
Oh. And i got the list of assistants. Some good coaches in that group.
  • sooner1
I don't know, 4 of the guys were there the last couple of years.
  • omemorialhigh
Rauzan, Hunt, Gozur, Carney, Canterino. I think bottom four have been board approved. Rauzan is a very good get.

Still no defensive coordinator from what Ive seen.

It's important that Coach Rozum gets a good one.

Realistic expectations? I would like to see Campbell win some games this year (playoff points) but the schedule mixed with a different coach might prove that to be an extremely difficult task.
    To me i think
    Struthers-L
    South Range -L
    Brookfield -L
    Girard-L
    Jefferson-W
Labrae-W (we'll see how the kids are at this point of the season)
    Liberty-W/L not sure
    Champion-W
    Lakeview-L
    Falls-w

They could be like a 5-5 team if this coach is a miracle worker or perhaps a 2-8, 3-7 squad. I think so at least. I could be wrong, but thats extremely doubtful. Yes i'm full of it.
