The concussion issue is more prevelent today than almost 40 years ago when I played. We played the game very differently than it is played today. The rule changes over the years have taken some of the saftey away from the game. Years ago, if you lead with your head or did one of these missle launch hits, it was concidered "spearing" and it was a penelty and you could get tossed out of the game because it was considered playing dirty. I know it sounds like I should get out of the "way back" machine LOL!
You still aren't allowed to lead with your head. I don't think that has ever changed... Now... is it called like it was?!?! That might be the difference. The game moves faster than it ever has. your average kids are bigger stronger and faster than years past. I don't think your top end guys have improved substantially, but either way I think unless it is a clear and obvious lead with the head... they won't call it or they could call it every play.

If you remember the first year they put emphasis on hits to the head... the whole contact to the head of the QB or WR was called almost every play the first game or two then the zebras got wise and changed their ridiculous amount of calls. (PLEASE SOMEONE TELL THE NFL REFS TO KNOCK IT OFF TOO!)

Also since you seem to have knowledge in this area. How low of a drop in baseline skills/tests are in the "concussion" realm?

Baseline concussion test required every year for my college player. Post concussion they cannot be cleared until they retest within normal limits.

Some of the high schools are starting to give kids baseline tests to go by for concussions. I know Norwayne did last year.

I'm good with that. It at least gives trainers, coaches, doctors and parents a more difinitive diagnosis.

True at NWN...baseline testing at begin of summer workouts. Anytime concussion is suspect, you go to Dr. to retake test and compared against baseline.

Speaking of concussions, I hope the Norwayne wide receiver who appeared to get his bell rung last in a helmet to helmet hit is ok. I know he went back into the game, but I am sure the Doctors will be keeping a close eye on him this week. It would be a tremendous loss for Norwayne if he were not able to play this week.

Col.Crestview 51 Aquinas 50 was the game of the night. Aquinas coach decided to go for 2 and the win, instead, no overtime and a loss. End of season.

Oak Hill beats Hillsdale 29-26, or should I say Hillsdale beats Hillsdale...That 2nd half was absolutely pathetic!! Got completely out coached in the 2nd half and it started with the second onside kick. Williams still left his regular return formation in after the first turnover and finally went to onside kick formation after that. Lets see, if Im Oak Hills lets pick on poor number 32 all night cuz he's completely outmatched (and has been all yr at corner) but hey he doesn't need any help apparently we love seeing you score all your TD's tonight from pass plays. Good kid just not a defensive back. Where the heck was the double coverage on Oak Hills number 28!!! Nowhere to be found. Icing on the cake, it look liked the center forgot the count on 1st and goal from the 1, cuz the entire line jumped before the ball was snapped (jumped offsides on defense all night too). Some of the fans were ticked off about the interception to end the game, but as far as Im concerned Corbin is a sophomore who made a mistake. I was more ticked off about the play call itself, trying to get cute on a play in that situation was ridiculous!!! Oh well, Im actually glad this sorry excuse for a season is over... had potential just choked. IMO, next year Ryan Bee is the QB he actually ran over 2 kids on that terrible fake punt call and was hurt the play before that and was even signaling to the side lines not to call that play. He made the first down not the coaching call, the kid has a good arm descent speed and is just flat out a beast. Someone please find the real coach Williams and bring him back, cuz this one just hasn't been getting it since the 2nd half of the Loudonville game.

The Bobcat Fans have gone quiet! I expected to here more from them. This week Norwayne takes on Youngstown Liberty, any idea where the game will be played?

They do not appear to pass much, but they do have a 5'-7", 160 lb fast scat back that is really quick. Their defense is small, but fast.

They have given up a lot points this year, which does not bode well for facing Norwayne.

Nope, not kidding. I wonder if he called Waynedale's coach and said " Hey remember when you had the ball on the 1 yd line against us 5 yrs ago and didn't score? Just want to see how it feels to be the better team and lose with the ball 1st & goal from the 1! " Do you remember that game o trap? HHS won that game 10-9 , and I remember leaving there thinking "WOW" what was that coach thinking. Not saying they'er bad coaches (obviously great coaches..Tommy has turned HHS around), but who I think just panic and call some crazy plays in crucial moments.

That's weird... I was on Norwayne's side friday and judging by the crowd... You'd think harbour is the worst coach... I'm really concerned about WCAL football coaching. We got a lot of dummies running these programs...

Sorry... I had to. No idea what happened last night.
