    I'd say two scores.
I say what a rivalry we have brewing here, makes football just that much more fun!!!! I say it is going to be a dog fight. Norwayne has the edge stat wise, well that is why we play the games

Hillsdale has the athletes in the secondary to compete. The running game has me more concerned than the passing. Hillsdale has a nice pass rush, but containing Mr. Zimmerly will be a major challenge. Hillsdale will need to try to move the chains and control the clock to keep it close. Hillsdale doesn't have the studs they did last year and Norwayne still has quite a few.

This one won't be close. NWN won't keep it very close either. Hillsdale loses by 20. NWN by 14. Minimum.

Agree 100%, but I think your numbers are low.

I'm just going to hope for a good game the next two weeks. Hopefully two dogfights for the Bobcats, getting all three teams involved ready for a potential playoff run. For the Smithies, I just flipping hope they win them.

I guess I'm curious why people would be more worried about Norwayne's running game then the passing game. They've passed for more yards then they've run for. They have more weapons in the air then they have on the ground. I'm not a Norwayne guy but I've seen them play alot over the last 2 years. I'll be at the last 2 games of the regular season also. I say if you focus on stopping the only real running back they have then you're in for a long night. They will torch you in the air. I'm not sure who the DB's are that was_that_it speaks of. I didnt see them when I saw them play.

I trust high school kids running the ball more than passing ball. I feel that kids at this age and at this level (small school) are more consistent in having a good night running over throwing. Easier to have a bad night catching and throwing. So stop the run. Hope its a bad night passing.

Mompov, You are thinking of Richard Beichler and Tom Beichler, They were cousins that played in the mid to late 70's there was also Mike Beichler who was Tom's older brother. Yes the Beichlers that played in the 2000's were their sons!

I do believe that Smithville will win their remaining 2 games, I dont' think Chippewa or Dalton are a match for them. Smithville is by no means a powerhouse, but I think they are a better team then the bottom 4 in the league.

I've seen both teams play this year and if I was Hillsdale....I'd be just plain concerned.
Best of luck to both teams though.....I hope it's a good game.

If Norwayne lines up and throws the ball a majority of the time, I like Hillsdale's chances to keep it close better than I thought. Kline, Derr, Zimmerman, Flores(sp), Magers, they aren't the best group in the conference....I would put them behind Norwayne's and Northwestern's, but they can play. I said they would compete, not dominate. I didn't realize Norwayne was pass heavy. Hillsdale's pass rush is decent. The run will be Hillsdale's undoing. Actually if Hillsdale shows up to play and withstands some adversity, they may just win. But I am getting a little excited, Norwayne will win by 50, with 500 yards passing. :p

I believe you will see Hillsdale's DB's get beat 75-80% of the time. We were fortunate that NWN was not able to complete many of their passes (bad throws, drops) or it would have been worse two weeks ago. The Cat's will not be near as forgiving and their run attack will be like nothing we have seen yet because they will be running behind a line two notches above any we have faced.
You are right, that if the Falcons come ready to play for four quarters they have the potential to keep it close, and I certainly hope we can.

Excellent article on the front page of the sports page of The Daily Record this morning. The numbers those 3 boys are putting up are unbelievable. Imagine what they could be like if they played complete games. Nice job of the boys deflecting the praise onto the rest of the team. They seem to be excellent teammates. Congratulations to those boys and a bunch more that weren't mentioned in this article. Good luck this Friday Cats!

How about those Norwayne Bobcats, nice article. They have the talent that is obvious. I think it showed on how they took apart Smithville. The Smithville defense has to be wondering what happened. I think it shows the earlier posts that one of the Smithville players being poy is way out of line. Although they may be good they are not in the same league as at least 3 of the Norwayne players. A PLO would never step away from a tackle.

Talk is easy, action is tough.
Let's see if the Riders can pull out a win on there last home game tomorrow.[MAP][/MAP]

Bates lead the area in picks last year on d and had 100 plus tackles as a JUNIOR. Teams are quckly learning not to throw at him. I wanna see bates put behind norwaynes line with the targets norwayne has and see the stats he puts up. Bates Buss and Shane would all start in any county team. Smithvilles opponets are lucky that bates isnt a WR or wing also. imagine game planning for a 6-2 kid that runs a legit 4.6 40 playing QB WB and WR. to say smithville has no one in the top ten is ridiculous. Bates Buss Shane and Kurtz all played a huge roll on last years team that if you remember, was the only team to beat the mighty bobcats. not attacking anyone here from norwayne just stating facts.

Just looking back at some old posts and this one caught my eye. I saw your POY run away from Norwaynes running back last week. As far as throwing at him they didn't seem to worry about his pass defence.

This thread is dead. I think it’s time to spice it up again. I’ve been sitting here looking at the statistics in the Daily Record and I think it’s time to revisit the POY discussion. Keep in mind the POY award in the WCAL is probably always going to be given to a 2 way player. That IMO eliminates Norwayne’s Dreher although he is having a huge year at QB. Here is my top 6 with some stats and commentary. These are in no particular order

    Noletti QB/S– Passing – 66 of 116 (56.9%) – 1289 yds 13TD/3INT –avg 19.53/comp
Averages TD pass every 5.08 completions
    Rushing -82 carries for 525 yards – 10 TD’s
Averages a TD run every 8.2 carries
    4 Interceptions

** IMO Noletti may be the best overall athlete in the league. I think he’s a year away from being incredible. He does miss on a lot of passes and his completion percentage should be higher. He averages an awesome 19.53 yard per completion. I think he should be doing more on the ground with his athleticism. The 4 Interceptions on defensive are awesome but I don’t know how many tackles he has because the minimum number that it takes to make the list is 45 and his names not on it.

    Smith RB/OLB - 148 carries for 1011 yards – 15 TD’s –
    6.83 yards/carry – Averages a TD every 9.86 carries
4 Interceptions – Again, not on the tackles list so he has less than 45
    Tackles

** He’s not on the receptions list but I know he has a bunch of receiving yards for a RB. The receiving yards and the INT’s have him on the list. Pound for pound this is one of the toughest kids playing ball in this area. He may be the most versatile RB in the league but he’s not the best. Jon Zimmerly is. He will probably be the front runner with his teammate for POY honors next year. Just like his teammate 4 Interceptions but not enough tackles to make the list.

    Moyer RB/MLB– 116 carries for 1073 yards – 6 TD’s
    5.15 yards/carry – averages a TD every 30 carries (Ouch!)
    71 Tackles

** Moyer is a tough kid but plays for a team that is probably a year away. Unfortunately, he won’t be on that team. He’s a senior. He works hard for his yards but he doesn’t score. He’s not a real “game changer” IMO his defensive number aren’t high enough at this point, he doesn’t score enough and his per carry average is not high enough to win this award. He plays inside where tackles come easy especially on a bad team. He should have more

    Mager RB/? - 116 carries for 1073 yards – 14 TD’s
    9.25 yards/carry ( Wow!)
Averages a TD every 8.29 carries

** I threw Mager on here because I was impressed watching him run the ball. I think he’s only a sophomore. His per carry average is insane and he scores allot but I don’t remember him on defense. I’m sure he plays but he’s not on the area stats anywhere.
He has a great future as a yearly POY candidate. This kid is going to be special in the upcoming years

    Berger WR/S – 39 catches for 893 yards – 8 TD’s
Averages 22.9 yards per catch (Wow!)
Averages a TD every 4.875 catches
    58 tackles

** Berger is a rarity in the WCAL. He has a ton of receiving yards. He plays WR but has a large frame. He is very difficult to bring down in the open field and would probably start at RB on most teams in the WCAL. He gets double teamed in every game so his numbers are even more impressive. He has very soft hands for a big kid. IMO he is way underutilized. I would throw to him 10 to 15 times per game. He also has 58 tackles on defense where he plays a Safety. Those are good numbers considering DB’s typically don’t have that many tackles especially on a team with a good defense that gives up very few points.

    Zimmerly RB/DE – 108 carries for 1150 – 23 TD’s
    10.65 yards/carry – Unbelievable!
Averages a TD every 4.7 carries
59 tackles – lots of TFL’s and sacks

** What can you say about Zimmerly. His numbers are off the charts. There has been some criticism on here about carries later in games when he shouldn’t be in the game. I don’t go for that. Zimmerly was All-Ohio at DE last year and in my mind is the premier runner in the league. The next 2 games will define him. This kid is a flat out beast. In the 2 games I’ve seen him in this year I’ve actually witnessed opposing DB’s get out of his way instead of tackling him. That’s crazy. He is a man coming off the edge on defense

I think the last 2 games will determine the winner of the award. I really think the award will end up going to one of the boys from Northwestern or Norwayne. Whoever wins that game may help determine the winner. Unless Hillsdale upsets Norwayne tonight next weeks battle is “Winner takes all”. That’s how it should be every year!
  • WCALfootballfan
Right now I give a slight nod to Jon Zimmerly but the final 2 weeks will bring it all into focus. The 2 Norwayne players are seniors and, right or wrong, that probably will help them a little. I also think the 2 Norwayne players are more physical on the defensive side which gives them a slight edge. The fact that Noletti is probably not the best pure QB in the league (Dreher) hurts his chances. The same goes for Smith at RB with Zimmerly being the better of the 2 IMO.

If Norwayne is forced to throw the ball allot in the final 2 weeks Berger’s numbers will balloon even bigger. They are already huge numbers for a WCAL receiver. That will help him tremendously. If the Cats can keep it on the ground I think the award belongs to Zimmerly.

Unfortunately I think each team can only nominate 1 POY candidate. That’s a shame because I think Zimmerly, Berger, Noletti and Smith are the 4 best players in the league. That means 2 of them won’t even get considered. I might be wrong about that but that’s what I’ve always heard. I think there should be a panel kinda like the Heisman voting. Put the top 6 players on a ballot and let the panel vote.

Well, that took forever. Let’s get some input. Let me know who everyone else thinks the top 5 are and come on Smithville guys. We know he’s not a true candidate
  • thePITman
    Zimmerly, as of right now.
  • O-Trap
Noletti and Smith were both VERY impressive when I watched them. Numbers are certainly there. I'd put them both in the top five.

I haven't seen Zimmerly play, but the numbers themselves are enough to put him in there. I'm surprised at how few yards he has, actually, but he's still an obvious choice.

Mager looks almost on par with Zimmerly by the numbers. An impressive stat line that would get him into the discussion.

As for the last one, I think I'd like to see some lineman stats, as I'm certain there has to be a lineman with a number of pancake blocks and defensive stats to warrant being in the discussion. I'm assuming he'd probably come from either Norwayne or Northwestern, but I unfortunately am not close enough to know who that might be.

Bates is not in the discussion this year. Last year, he could have been top five, though Wallace was easily the POY last year. He hasn't had the same kind of year.
