mompovI still think when you are the visiting team you are not in tune to the pregame schedule of the home team. Chippewa was on the line helmets on the ground also for the national anthem. Dalton was not out there yet.
But Dalton is always out there for home game national anthem. Anyone from the home school enlightening visitors of pregame schedule? If not, they why make a deal of it? And are you sure the visitors didn't hear it and stand and respond in their locker room? To many unanswered questions to be judging. -

mompovThe scoop - the home team takes the field for whole field warmups before the visiting team arrives. They then retire to their locker room to make final preparations while the visiting team has whole field warm ups. Then the teams share the field for further warming up. Then the both teams go to the lockerroom. The visitors to make the final preparations that have already been made by home team. But as the home team has already done this they are free to be on the field for pregame. Sometimes the visiting team can be and sometimes they don't have time. It has nothing to do with patriotism.
I hope this ends that part of the arguement. -

HuskyFoolball manages to insult Smithville and give Norwayne bulletin board material with 3 sentences and less than 50 words!!!.....8 posts into his OC career!!!
I see video tapes in this kids future.
If the Huskies get slain in week 10......will we ever hear from HuskyFoolball again?
I vote no.....most blowhards (I'm the exception) run and hide when all their tough talk turns out to be blustering bullcrap. -
BRFI'm going to give my 2 cents worth on the National Anthem thing, which some will think is two cents more than it's worth. And that's OK with me.
BRF says that both teams are supposed to be part of the pre-game. Now, as pointed out already, maybe there was something going on pre-game that changed when the Anthem was played. Maybe it was just a mistake on being out there when it was played.
To say that it's not a big deal is pretty insulting to those of us (yes, include me on the side that they should have been out there) who feel strongly about this kind of thing. Most of our side were raised to respect our country and that action is considered disrespectful.
I am not "diggin'" the inference that it is not a big deal and just get over it. My side has our opinion and your side has theirs.
So don't lecture our side about your feelings on the matter as if you expect us to just say "oh, ok, I see.....that's ok, then"........
Because it is not OK................IMO, of course! -

Huskyfootball Whether you are a player, student, parent or fan shut your mouth! Let the players play and we'll see what happens. Hillsdale talked this kind of crap and look what happened to them!! 855pridewere we really arguing about smithville being out for the national anthem? i can remember one time in my years around the program that the team was on the field and that was this year at fairless due to thunderstorms delaying kickoff and messing all the times up for the teams. now its a big deal? norwayne must be more patriotic.

BobcatForget the National Anthem for now. How about that All-State DB jumping out of the way of Jon Z then making a half-hearted attempt to shoulder tackle him. On several occasions. How about that 4.60 speed! POY...haha

Nobody is saying that it's okay to disregard the National Anthem if you're present for it. I would be equally offended at that ... no less than someone who doesn't remove their hat or talks during it. Those are extremely disrespectful.
What we're talking about is a team who isn't on the field when it happens. What is unpatriotic about not trying to go where they're playing it so you can observe it? If it's going on down outside at the church down the street, I'm not going to walk down. Heck, if it's going on outside my own church while I'm inside, I may not go out for it. If I'm present for it, I would observe it, and I expect other American citizens to do the same. However, if I am not present for it, I am no less patriotic by not going to be present for it, just so I can observe it.
I certainly don't intend to insult anyone by my not observing an Anthem I'm not present for, but I will also no be bullied into not hurting someone's feelings by my non-presence. If I'm at work, and it's going on outside, but I have too much to do, I'm going to continue working. If it was happening in my office, I would certainly stand for it, but I'm not going to just seek out places where I can observe it. That's silly, and the action itself becomes more important than the reason it is observed.
I have a great reverence for my country, but no, getting ready for a game instead of seeking out the presence of the National Anthem is not disrespectful, and I would not be bullied into behaving otherwise. -

BRFO-Trap: I hear you and you made some good explanations and comparisons, IMO. I see where you are coming from and I also alluded to that in my previous post of maybe it was just an oversight or a misunderstanding as to what was going on.
My basis is that the teams should be present for the National Anthem. If one is not, then they are subject to ..........scrutiny?
I am going to err on the side of it was not intentional and just something that kind of happens once in a while. -

I've been to a lot of football games over the years and there are very few that come out for the national anthem antmore not saying its right or wrong. One thing though, what is the state of the wcal if this is what the big arguement is about this week?BRF;1295383 wrote:O-Trap: I hear you and you made some good explanations and comparisons, IMO. The state of the WCAL is three teams make the playoffs. Question is which team makes the deepest playoff run.scarface1;1295392 wrote:I've been to a lot of football games over the years and there are very few that come out for the national anthem antmore not saying its right or wrong. Bloody ToothbrushMy final 2 cents on the anthem issue....
Everyone in America is entitled to embrace our freedoms and traditions in their own way....that's one of the principles of freedom IMO.
Nobody WILL EVER shame me into conforming to their opinion of what patriotism is. My family has paid the ultimate price for that right....TWICE!
and neither one died so some patriotic idealist on his high horse can dictate how I honor this country.....and anyone who doesn't like it (Paul, Paul_1, BRF) can kiss my donkey!
and reps to scarface.....why is this even an issue.
now, back to football......
Early D4 playoff possibility chatter.....
Columbus Bishop Hartley (R14) just beat Ironton (R15) 62-6.....and Ironton has clinched a spot.
Ottawa Glandorf (R14), Clarksville Clinton Massie (R16), Williamsport Westfall (R16), St Clairesville (R15) look like the other teams to watch in D4.
I think R13 comes down to Norwayne & Brookfield....possible rematch from last years 1st round. The next couple of weeks will tell us alot about the other area teams in R13.....Northwestern could make a cinderella charge, but I think the chances of that are better in 2013. Triway looks like they are finished as far as playoff hopes go.
However it shakes out, I'm still going with Hartley to win it all and Region 14 as the toughest road....any other opinions on D4? -
BRFJust one more thing. I'm not on a high horse, but just giving my opinion, like you are.

but don't kid yourself......we're all on high horses by virtue of posting on this forum.
Shall we agree to disagree?...that's about all that's left to do aside from starting a thread where we slug it out over the definitions and usages of words like "respect", "freedom" and "patriotism" and how they should be applied when found to be in direct opposition of each other throughout world and american history. It's a deep well...
...and I'd rather talk some football, goof on the Pauls, rattle beasts chain and SMH at huskyfoolballs chest thumping.
Ball's in your court....I won't bring it up again unless you do. -
BRFFair enough and that's what I meant........agree to disagree.

Hartley vs Ottawa-Glandorf will give us the state championship favorite, in my opinion. Hartley is an elite team, yes, but O-G is loaded, as well. Double-digit 3-year starters that have been there for a while.Bloody Toothbrush;1295475 wrote:However it shakes out, I'm still going with Hartley to win it all and Region 14 as the toughest road....any other opinions on D4?
