1486wdDidn't norwayne split the 8th grade title with Dalton? I thought I heard they tied last week. I believe the Dalton 7th grade were the champs as well.

Yes the 7th grade won the championship. The only team that scored against them was smithville and that was only 6 points and it was in the 1st game. THe 7th and 8th grade teams are tough and things are looking positive in the future for Bulldog athletics! -
real catfan855 ive seen what smithville is planning to do this friday. could through a wrench in the bobcats offense[/QUOTE]
42 points scored by cats..... better rethink the plan -
dhs22pWhat an exciting game in Doylestown tonight! Way to go Dogs! Great team WIN!

mompovDalton was the better team once they finally got past shooting themselves in the foot, and the ref that needs to learn more about holding. The Chipps are up and coming, however, with that little freshman qb. Wonder if he has anyone to pass to next year?

Yes, he will he will have plenty of good athletes to throw to after St. V yanks yet another good football player away from the Chipps. -
O-TrapI think the biggest question of the night is this:
How did Rittman score 26 points against Hillsdale? -
Dmax1To all my Smiththville friends I think that is how you spell it according to your card. One word to describe tonight's game. WOW!
-
O-TrapZimmerly played a great game tonight. I do truly hope that kid is going somewhere after high school to play football. He is something special to watch.
-
BobcatThe only thing that stopped Norwayne tonight was penalties. If not for them this would have been alot worse. Jon Zimmerly put on an absolute clinic tonight. I heard 275 yeards on 15 carries. Berger was used sparingly but had a TD and probably over 100 yards. He could have had a lot more.Had a 70 yard TD called back on a BS holding call. The referees were terrible in this game. I mean no disrespect but the talk of one of Smithvilles players being a POY candidate is a joke. Norwayne has several players that are better than any player on Smithvilles team. It's not even close. Talent is cyclical and Smithville has very little. Kurtz is by far the best player on the team. He is very good. Norwayne did miss Scruggs in the middle. He's a beast. I'm not sure what the future holds for him. We are going to need him. Nice job Cats.

1486wdThat's what I was thinking!

I believe the Norwayne 8th graders won the championship.... no tie with Dalton. We lost to Hillsdale and I think Hillsdale lost to Norwayne. -

I have seen much of the WCAL this year. So far I don't see anyone who is capable of playing at a D I or II school. As fun as it is to watch these kids, you really need to go to Cleveland, Akron, Cincinnati or some Columbus (and even on occasion Orrville!) schools to see where players at the next level come from. I could see Jon playing at a school like Ohio Northern, Wooster, etc. He is so talented for our league but lacks the size or speed to play past that level. DIII probably gives the best education so if he can get a good degree and still play that would be great. Good kid from what I hear as well.O-Trap;1293821 wrote:Zimmerly played a great game tonight. 99bobcatdbCats took care of business last night. It was a nice steady offence performance. Smithville is only about 1 more big play maker away from being a real good football team in my opinion from what I saw last night. However maybe 4 play makers from being a play off team
Cold night nice win! -

The talent you see in the WCAL is all relative. 5'9", 195 lbs, and runs a 4.7 40. There isn't a D1 or D2 team in America that's interested in that kid. I'm skeptical many D3 teams would be interested, in fact. No knock on the kid. There's nothing wrong with being the best of the small, slow kids in your conference. -
Bloody ToothbrushALERT THE MEDIA!!!!.......master talent evaluator Jaco has spoken!
and yes....his post is a bitter testament to his growing jealousy for the WCAL in general and Norwayne in particular.
^^^^I would take this as a knock on the kid and the league.jaco;1293913 wrote:The talent you see in the WCAL is all relative. 5'9", 195 lbs, and runs a 4.7 40. Listen up Jaco....
We get it. We all know the WCAL is not the OCC....and we're okay with that, it sounds like you're the one is having trouble telling the difference.
I mean, Mr. Zimmerly was part of the team that spanked Orrville last year.....and Orrville did spank Wooster last year........and well,.....where does that leave you and the mighty D1 talented Generals.
The jealousy is apparent for all to see.....Let it go....cut it loose.....get out of your chair.....brush the Dorito dust from around your mouth.....take a walk....you'll feel better......I promise. -
Havin FunBloody - I don't know anything about Jaco previous posts. It is hard to argue with the facts though. Zimmerly is a great WCAL talent and apparant great kid. I would agree though that there is no way he will get any interest other than some DIII schools. Wallace was a true stud as a WCAL player with the size to play at DII. From what I hear, is not doing much at Ashland. I don't see this as a knock on Norwayne. They are the class of the WCAL right now and maybe of D IV!
-
Bloody ToothbrushHavin Fun...
I'm not arguing with facts........the WCAL isn't the OCC. The WCAL doesn't have much in the way of D1 talent....but, saying that he's skeptical the kid would get D3 interest is absurd.
and yes, Norwayne is tough....but I'm not ready to even crown them regional champs yet....let alone the class of D4.
as far as Wallace.....isn't he red shirted at QB?........didn't he get looks from the MAC on the defensive side of the ball? What does Wallace have to do with this anyway?....he made his choices....he chose Ashland.....are we now saying he didn't have the ability to walk on at a D1 school?
I'm saying Jaco is full of crap. If the Zimmerly kid has the brains and desire to play football....MANY D3 programs would take him. -
O-Trap
There have been plenty of kids from the WCAL to have gone to D1 schools over the years. Perhaps not as many as larger schools, and that makes sense, because larger schools have larger talent pools, so they get more looks from D1 schools. However, If we were to compare a small school's talent over a couple years to a large school's talent in a single year, you'd end up with about the same kind of talent. In other words, they don't just magically grow them bigger in Wooster or Akron. They just usually have more kids.Havin Fun;1293866 wrote:I have seen much of the WCAL this year. I live in Akron, and in the last few years, I've seen Hoban, Buchtel, North, Walsh Jesuit, CVCA, and St. V's play. As for this year, St. V's is the only one that would waste every team in the WCAL. Buchtel is better than their 3-4 record, and they could maybe make it a game with Norwayne and Northwestern ... maybe Hillsdale. However ... Hoban, North, Walsh Jesuit, and CVCA would all get leveled by AT LEAST Norwayne. Their athletes are not nearly as good as you seem to think they are.
It's funny. Having lived in Wadsworth, Medina, and Akron after living in Orrville, I see just how much the small-town places put cities up on a pedestal that they really don't deserve. Big city athletes aren't, again, magically grown better. -
Dr. KnOiTaLLThe Cats played fantastic football last night. Jon had his way on the ground, and the passing game took what was there. Excellent performance on both sides of the ball. The one thing that was disappointing was the embarrassment I felt when exiting the stadium. Coach Harbour has established a great football program, but the boys taunting and mocking the other team as they leave the field is inexcusable and classless. I was ashamed as I walked out amongst Norwayne and Smithville fans alike. A great product has certainly been formed on the football field, but these boys should also take pride in the way the handle their success, with grace and with class. Mixed emotions from what I saw last night...
