Week 13 Dover (11-1) vs Mooney (8-3)

  Mooney didn't come out and shut the Dover offense down. Dover came out and dropped passes, threw a pick 6 then proceeded to turn it over 4 more times. Mooney was far more talented, it just cracks me up all these people who weren't there making assumptions about how the game went.

  maybe phila and dover should combine teams dovers offense phila defense.that would be a great team.congrats to dover on another great season from the other side of the river.

  Steubenville had a legit D but I guess we will never know. I do know that they would have rushed for 400 yards just like Mooney did. Mooney put 70 on you, they put up 24 on us and Steubenville led with 10 seconds left. Your boys gave up 52 points in the second half?
  
  It doesn't really matter, Mooney beat us and asbolutely smoked you. The only people that think those were the 2 best teams in R11 last night are from 'god's country"

  Great season Dover. One of the best teams in the state year in and year out. Nothing to be ashamed of in making the elite 8.
  
  Oh, and an extra week of practice for Steubenville's basketball team won't really help them. Lulz

  Dover, don't forget your 10-0 team in 1979 was the first of the 3 wins over Big Red. Devore and company had class and a fine team, although I am not sure if they made the playoffs back then, as I think it was only 4 teams from the 3 divisions (it may have been 8) that made it back then. Think of all the money the state could have been making back then.
  
  This was probably 10-15 years before most of the posters on here were born. Is either 70 points for Mooney or 44 in a losing effort for Dover a state record for playoff games? Congrats to both teams on a great season, and good luck to Mooney the rest of the way. I only wish I could have been there in person (or for that matter have seen it on tv).

  True. Big Red wants no part of Dover on the hardwood. Big Red knows this.

  Everyone pretty much knew the Dover D stunk, but what about Mooney giving up 44 points and 541 total yards of offense? Has the Mooney D ever given up these totals? Was the Dover O that good or is the Mooney D average? You look at the stats of both teams and just kind of say Wow!

  True, but do good defenses give up 44 points and 481 yards passing? You know Mooney way better than I do. How is this defense ranked over past defenses for Mooney? Just trying to get a handle on this. I had to work and couldn't see the game and like I said, when you look at the recap of the stats it kind of makes you wonder if either defense is that good. I'm not fishing for an argument, just wondering what happened.

  I dont know about a Regional Final...but Sheridan scored 53 in a losing effort last week....against Dover

  Chagrin Falls looks solid. Versatile on offense and they have more size on the lines, a dominating performance in the trenches last night...

  To answer your first question.....no, this defense isn't as good as some that I've seen over the past decade. That being said, I think Mooney was outcoached in the first half. I think Mooney really thought they would be able to sack the QB way more than they were able to, but to Swinderman's credit he was always able to get rid of the ball and minimize any losses to keep his team in obtainable 3rd down situations. Also give him credit for getting back up after getting hit a lot on the first few drives, he didn't seem to be shook up one bit.
  
  I think in the 2nd half Mooney used a 3 man rush and focused on forcing turnovers rather than trying to force 3-and-outs. They also covered the screen pass better which seemed to force Swinderman to make some more risky throws.
  
  All in all, it was a tale of two halves. Dover did in the first half to take the lead the exact same thing that Mooney did in the second half to pull away: minimize or neutralize opponents possessions. Dover knew they probably couldn't stop Mooney, so they forced a turnover and recovered two onside kicks. What better way to stop the other team from scoring than to not even let them have the ball? I mean, if you think about, Mooney could have had 28 more points at halftime than they did. Credit Dover for really neutralizing Mooney that first half.

  Good luck Mooney . represent region 11 with everthing you got . i think this is one of the top regions regardless of division in the state as well as some of the best teams . make region 11 proud . Bring Home That State Championship !

  i agree mooney44 . some adjustments should surely have been made. ya we were missing 2 of our best defenders, but should play better than that. i Don't understand the tackling high and the defender getting pushed over backward stuff. never seen that as much till this year.

  ...I was thinking that Ravenna would be the site they'd choose for Mooney & Chagrin Falls. It's aprox.37 miles from Youngstown and 35 miles from Chagrin Falls and that makes it pretty decent for all parties but I have to say that getting into and out of there is pretty F'd up.

  I had to laugh last night when I saw how much bigger the Mooney players were than Dovers. It is quite obvious a school like Mooney has a HUGE advantage with the way they are able to get players. Much respect to schools like Dover and Stubenville that take home grown talent and succeed year in and year out.

  What advantage?? The playing field is level!!! I mean a D-III plays a D-I schedule...successfully....yet they are equal to the rest of D-III.....there is nothing fishy....so dont go there!
