Just tell me this: Did he call the screen pass?
Success is never just on people. The most talented kids in Ohio won't win without good coaching. I was talking with someone last night who watched Rittman play, and he said there is some talent on that team. The guy knows football better than about anyone I know, so I really have no reason to doubt him.
The fact of the matter is, this coach has a track record, as did Besancon (that's how you spell it, by the way ). Everywhere Besancon went, the team improved, New London included. You can't tell me that was all just talent, and he left when it was over.
I've played under Besancon (as an assistant at Smithville). He's a disciplinarian to the core. He is a good teacher, but he also expects perfection. He was always his players' biggest fan and harshest critic. I think that style of coaching, and coaching in a program where, every year, he got to see what it takes for a team to win, has led to him helping the teams succeed wherever he goes.
Conversely, Dennis also has a track record. It's basically the opposite of Besancon's, at least in terms of success, though I might suspect in other areas as well.
You might be right. He originally left Smithville because he wanted a head coaching job. It's good to see him back.
That would be a fairly close game. I'm gonna try to make it to either that one or the Hillsdale one.
The onside kick is a bit much, but I guess if there is bad blood between the two for the game, it could happen. Still kind of ugly.
You know, it might sound weird to say this, but the Dalton D didn't look terrible. They had a hard time containing the QB on the run, which led to some long scores early, but that D was scrappy, and I can appreciate that.
Are the Dogs young this year? They looked smaller in size than the Dalton teams I remember, but then, I remember playing against Stutz, who I got to see on the Dalton sidelines last night.
Are the Dawgs young? Is this thread totally out of control? YES! We are young!
We only have 2 returning lettermen, 6 or 7 seniors, the same for juniors, the rest split about even between sophomores and freshmen. My youngest son seeing more varsity time than my older son ever did as sophomore. You gotta play what you're dealt. There is some talent there, but the lineman so small comparatively to other county teams, only one or two on the program over 200 lbs. QB was running back last year. Definitely rebuilding, but as stated above, we are scrappy. -
O-Trap
If that's the case, I see the Dogs looking MUCH better the next two years. Good luck the rest of the year, Dalton! With the clawing and fighting of that D, I can still see them winning 3 of the final 6 games.mompov;899635 wrote:Are the Dawgs young? Is this thread totally out of control? YES! We are young!

O-trap: Glad to see you back in the area and in on the swing of things!
Anyone who was at the Smithville/Dalton game: Any comments on how my young RB/LB Ginger for the Smithies looked last night?......The one that lives a lot closer to OHS than SHS. -

Go FalconsSorry it took so long, got to get ready for the 160th Ashland County Fair.
Hillsdale vs. Chippewa:
First quarter Hillsdale rolls 35-0. Second quarter not exactly sure what happened, I believe that the coaches tried to call off the slaughter by slowing down the offense. As most know that makes things look ugly and you get a lot of mix up. This went on for two quarters then the varsity scored again.
JV squad scored on first series. Chipp's score against JV. Kick off return (JV) fumbles, Chipp's score. Kick off return fumbles again Chipp's take a knee. I sat more for this game then I did all of last year, retired the bell in the first quarter. Had I known I would have headed for Brookpark.
Its hard to believe that was Hillsdale not to long ago.
Did see some improvement in the passing game and the Falcon secondary. Still don't think the Falcons will be the WCAL champs.
JV's won Saturday 48-0.
Back to the Fair. -
Old RiderThe daily record's Aaron Dorksen is already predicting an Orrville - Norwayne matchup in the playoffs according to this mornings paper. I can understand his thinking, but we still have 6 weeks of regular season left and anything can happen between now and then.
So is Norwayne running these scores up?? Sure seems to be the case after reading some things on here and looking at box scores. He better be careful doing those things because what comes around goes around! -

I have to confess, that is me holding the ball in the photograph. The dead give a way is how I am growing the sides of my hair long in order to do one of those comb overs to hide my balding head. Nothing looks worse than a chrome dome. And I am sure no one will notice I am balding once I work my magic.Bloody Toothbrush;900957 wrote:I don't need to refer to any post to figure this pic out.......

I am not pointing to Wooster, however in the photo. I am pointing to a calendar for the year 1986, the last time Wooster actually ran a defense that worked. See here in these parts we believe in sticking with what works. Our defense was effective in 1986 and the game hasn't really changed that much since then so why come up with a fancy new scheme?
Bobcats stalk....
Oh, and one more thing.....let me be the first to wish the new coaching staff at Wooster High School good luck on your inagural season in 2012. -

Bobcat varsity has not played in the 4th quarter this year so what happens, happen.Old Rider;901369 wrote:The daily record's Aaron Dorksen is already predicting an Orrville - Norwayne matchup in the playoffs according to this mornings paper. footballnutMy sources tell me that Norwayne has not played the 1's in a 4th quarter yet this year. In fact the backups were in during the 3rd in 3 of thier games I think I remember a few being sprinkled in at the game I went to but they did not play on that night. They are doing almost all of that scoring in three qtrs and the reserves are scoring a little in the 4th.
-
THE4RINGZSerious question here:
If the Norwayne varsity hasn't played a fourth quarter all season does that rest help them if they get into a tight four quarter game, or does the lack of experience hurt them if they need to play a tough fourth quarter? -
riders1Ask Genoa fans.

Instant rep! haha -
Red RumRingz makes a very valid point.
Hopefully, Smithville, Hillsdale and Waynedale will make the Cats play all 4 quarters. It's probably gonna be real ugly for Dalton, Rittman & Chippewa.
schedule strength is a problem somebody like Orrville doesn't have.
not that Orrville wouldn't have its own challenges if the mythical Orr/WCAL game were to happen.
Taking a team like Norwayne to lightly could end in disaster. I saw it happen at Black River in 2003.
Still, its far too early to really explore this matchup but reading Dorksen today got me going. I hope it happens, it would be a blast.
