That's not quite as bad as I would've thought.

Northwestern looked bad tonight. Norwayne 55 - NW 8. Could not stop up the middle no matter what kid had the ball. They like the spread and just one on one with Wallace. That being said, 4 unsportsmanlike conduct calls on Norwayne tonight to go along with 2 personal fouls was bad to watch. Blatant dirty play after the whistle, hitting kids after they are down including the NW QB that got put out of the game in the second quarter by a late hit out of bounds.

NW could not get anything going. There is huge dissemination on this team right now, lots of finger pointing from the players and coaches alike. It is a shame when I talk with some of these kids after the game and have to listen to them talk about the attitude of the coaches in the locker room. Sounds like a top to bottom melt down.

Generic playcalling + Rittman stepping up.

In my game summary I will say this...Im not taking ANYTHING away from the Rittman boys, (if they had a coach, i think they would do alright this year)....that being said, Bears kept it plain. Held Rittman from scoring inside the 5-10 yd line three times. That in turn gave crappy field position...an int on the 1 (knock it down...it was 4th down) and a punt that went out of bounds on the 1....5 times the Bears started inside the 5....

Overall offensively...a few nice runs, a few nice passes....just simple generic football!!! Got the "W".....but need to step it up next week against Smithville...thats the game that may make or break out Season!!!

Edit: and after texting madman for a quarter...i found out it was his Mom....so I started talking dirty to her....she want to meet downtown, but I had to get out of Rittucky. Once I got madmans real phone #...he passed the chance to meet The Beast. I think he was embarassed that I didnt hook up with his mom! :D

Am understanding why I so seldom see Rittman and Chippewa posters on here. It's hard to know what to say when your team just can't get anything going. You see some improvement and brief moments of brilliance, but when up against the size, experience and talent of some of the other county teams....there just isn't much that can be done but wait out the learning curve.
If it's true that Norwayne isn't satisfied with being good, but has to play dirty too, I'm glad we don't have them until later.
Smithville had several roughing the passer calls tonight too. Not necessary, really.

In my experiences, especially the past few years...that has been the conduct/mentality/discipline in West Vircreston....not just in football...I hope my Bears are a mean enough crew to go toe to toe and take the high road, however, if it has come to the point of putting kids outta the game with dirty play....then clear the benches...clear the stands...take the gloves off...and lets do this!!!:D

I had heard earlier that Norwayne may bring in a diff QB and run Wallace outta the backfield, so I can understand him isolating the defense....he is at an advantage! Hope The Bears can put a spy on him and hopefully its the right kid with athletic prowess to match or keep up with Wallace!!!!

I only recall one, and it was a pretty iffy call. That QB got hit right after he got rid of the ball. If the defensive player had let up, and the QB had pump faked, it would have been the defender's rear end for not following through with the play.

All in all, the teams both played cleanly tonight. This Dalton team looked young, but they showed some fight, especially on defense. Offense needs shored up, but there is some talent there, and those Bulldog boys played tough. I could still see them winning maybe three games this year, and I could see them building on that in the next couple years.

Been that way for decades. There's a reason that we referred to them as "D*ckheads" during practice when I played ... which was 10 years ago and more (we used to put the opponent's mascot or nickname on our helmets during the practice week).

I actually was talking to one of the Smithville coaches today. Apparently the superintendent of Greene Local Schools has a bromance on Dennis, and if Coach Schrock had retired prior to this year, Dennis might have been a Smithie head coach.

God bless that old fart, Schrock, for not retiring yet.

LOL because they are...I have dealt with the kids as an athlete and coach...i have dealt with the parents as a coach/father and fan....unreal....

On a side note: I swear to Jesus if you tell me you put a Bears Mascot or Name on your helmet....im coming for ya, brotha!!! BELIEVE THAT...

I usually come on here and post once a week. I like to offer up a Norwayne recap. Tonight I was fortunate enough to spend some time with some friends and there sons who play for the Cats after we returned home. As is usually in many cases on here my Chatter friend Sydfl is misinformed. I specifically asked about the unsportsmanlike penalties. This is not normal for this Norwayne team. One of the calls was a Norwayne running back who pushed a defender off of him who had a hold of his ankle and was twisting it at the bottom of the pile after he was tackled. Another was a lineman that "encouraged" a Huskie player to take a look at the scoreboard in a spirited matter after He was called a MF'er. They weren't sure what the 3rd was for ( there was 3 not 4). They told me that Northwestern was getting more and more pissed as the night went on which is to be excpected...they were getting embarrassed. The madder they got the dirtier they got. Syd needs to get his facts straight. Each team is going to blame the other. We all know that the guy who acts second usually gets busted. I can understand Northwesterns frustration. They got crushed.

Now onto a game recap. I was wondering when Norwayne would come out flat...tonight was the night. It took them awhile to get on track but they eventually did. Northwestern did expose a few weaknesses but I'm not going to say what they are. Norwayne's offense to this point is incredible. The only way Nwstrn stopped them was to be on offense themselves. Norwaynes O is better than their D. They are loaded with weapons. Every game has pretty much been the same. Every team backs the corners off 12 to 15 yards. Up till now they double team Brady Berger. He is a big play reciever. The problem with that is they are deep. jon Maibach has become a force on the short dump routes. He's making catches by the boatload. They double Berger often time putting the corner 12 deep and backing him up with a safety then they try to man up on the other 3 recievers who catch the ball anyway....as does Berger. They get so preoccupied with the pass that the running lanes are wide open. When they adjust and put more defenders in the box they pass. Wallace is running at will because of the success of the passing game. The Zimmerly boys can both carry the mail at running back and Wallace is a load. They are very deep in the skill positions. Cover Berger and they'll throw to maibach. Cover them and they'll throw to Smith or Knieirem. Back em all out and they'll run. Good luck stoppin them. IMO they have the 2 best recievers in the league in Berger and Maibach, 2 of the best running backs in the Zimmmerlys and the best QB. This offense is awesome. The D has weaknesses because they are seamingly trying to play certain players one way to keep them fresh. Rittman is in major trouble next week

We did put "BEARS" on our helmets. Each week, we put the opponent.

Say it Ain't So!! That would've just killed the Smithville football tradition.

Trust me, the Smithie nation knows. It's going to be hard enough to replace Schrock as it is. At least Besancon came up playing for him, coaching with him, etc.

There has been a LOT of local discontentment with the school administration in regard to its attitude toward the football program. Every Smithvillian I've talked to about it would be FURIOUS if he tried to screw things up.
  • OQB
Yeah, no kidding....I would be mad if they did that. My dad was on Shrock's first team and has a lot of great stories from his playing days. With Orrville and Smithville playing on opposite nights during the playoffs, I always enjoyed going to the smithville games with my dad. He had some great stories he told me.

Usually you have a nice recap!!! Unfortunately...in this case...I call shenanigans...Norwayne has played dirty for awhile...and of course lil petey or lil tommy's parents will deflect that to the other team.....

If anyone believes this...I have some Ocean Front Land for sale in Amish Country!!!
