Jon Maibach and Brady Berger, probably best 2 receivers in league, Wallace is good, no doubt there, but not close to D1 talent.

    Cat3, Welcome!
When talking best WCAL WR, Levi Licata from Hillsdale can't be overlooked

Bears are small, slow, unathletic....only have about 35 kids on the team. With that being said, I just hope we can keep it close with Smithville.

On the field is where they're different. 1 inch and 20 pounds at the respective position is not THAT big a difference.

It's kind of hard to compare Wallace and Monheim....because Mason is doing it against div II and III schools while Wallace is doing it against div IV, V, and VI. Both are extremely good football players and both communities are very proud of them.

IMO he would be better if he was a WR a bigger target to throw to and let the Leach kid QB. Why I ask is Bates stats are not very good at all and when Smithville faced a 4th down late in the game (Mogradore) they brought Leach in the game to QB to throw to Bates and it worked. I know it was just one throw. But if you could have a threat like Bates out as a WR that could make Smithville better. Because at some point if the run is getting stuffed they can look for one on one coverage to Bates. IMO that could really make Smithville tough to beat going into the meat of the schedule.
Bates is a great athlete. I would say the coaching staff feels he's the best player to lead the Smithville offense. While he hasn't put up great numbers, having watched Alex since coming to Smithville, he's definitely a capable passer, the Smithies just haven't had to rely on his arm yet this season. With the offense Smithville runs, WR's are rarely used. So sticking Bates out wide to block isn't as appealing as letting him run behind that BIG O-line. Though when he NEEDS to be out wide (Mogadore) he will be.
If those three backs in the stable (Steiner, Hilty, & Shane) and Bates all stay healthy and keep working and playing with a purpose, they're gonna be tough to stop.
Add Tyler Buss to the list as he continues to heal and will get more carries with each game.

Bates is a talented player, and it would be a shame not to have the ball go through his hands at some point in as many plays as possible.

Having said that, it's always scary to rely too much on one player, and I hope the Smithies aren't doing that with Bates. He's good, but he's not invincible.

Yeah, I just hadn't seen him as much.

You guys forget Bobcats better on defense than on offense. D1 all the way. Bobcats stalk!

I am a Lex supporter, and Monheim is the best player I've seen this year. We were calling him the Monheim Steamroller because he was unstoppable. When he came through untouched on that blitz and broke our QB in half, he knocked the wind out of our whole crowd. We couldn't block him and couldn't tackle him. He reminded me of that Jefferson guy on Fast Times at Ridgemont High that thought his car was destroyed by the other team and then destroyed them on the field. Great player.

    LOL nice reference!!!

    +1 REP

Mason is a beast..no question about it. I dont want to take anything away from Wallace. He is a stud but it's a little different running against the WCAL then Orrvilles competition. They are both excellent players. I wish them both the best wherever they continue their careers.
