Agreed....by the time the season's over I could still be valedictorian at Norwayne thoughOQB;904019 wrote:I bet it drops more when you watch Dennis coach.

Red RumI've just been checking out math wiz Drew Pasteurs site,
As of now, heres's the percentages on the WCAL teams playoff hopes
Norwayne 99%
Hillsdale 35%
Smithville 4%
Waynedale 2%
Dalton 1%
Northwestern, Rittman & Chippewa......no chance...0%
with the exception of Norwayne, things are looking bad. I thought Hillsdale would have a higher number but their non conference opponents combined record is a paltry 2-10 and that in combination with the 4 WCAL 0-4 teams....they appear to be on the outside looking in.
Hopefully things get better -

Maybe that's the problem your linemen should be in the backfield1_beast;904613 wrote:At Waynedale, when we get kids that size...we have to use them as linemen.... -

I didn't realize it before , but there are 10 teams at 4-0 in what appears to be a tough region 19. Three aren't in the top 9, With Mt.Gilead 10th, Hillsdale 12th and Alexander 13th. Some have similar weak nonleague games as Hillsdale, but you are right, a win over Norwayne might be the only way the Falcons get in. Need some 4-0 and 3-1 teams to lose games in the next 6 weeks and I will guess most of those 10 will lose a game or 2 along the way.Red Rum;905062 wrote:I've just been checking out math wiz Drew Pasteurs site,

I know it sucks losing those points but that game made you a better team. -
footballnutIt seems like all of those teams (Hillsdale, Waynedale, Smithville) could help their causes by beating Norwayne. It all seems pretty simple to me.
-
footballnutI don't understand why everyone is counting Hillsdale out. They are actually the favorite to win the WCAL. My understanding is that they are supposed to be the team to beat in the WCAL. Why is everyone jumping on the Norwayne bandwagon?

I havent counted out Hillsdale.....In my book the Team to beat is Smithville....(this weeks opponent)....Then worry about the following week....etc. Hillsdale has a heckuva team over there....they are 4-0....and they are big and talented. Returning Champs....I think they are laying low..."stalking" the Bobcats .footballnut;905232 wrote:I don't understand why everyone is counting Hillsdale out. Bears are just hoping to keep up with Smithville this week. Take care of business 1 week at a time. -
THE4RINGZThis years Bears v. Smithies game is what makes WCAL football so great.

Mt Gilead plays North Union this week so you can scratch them from the list. They'll lose by 30.riders1;905082 wrote:I didn't realize it before , but there are 10 teams at 4-0 in what appears to be a tough region 19. Because Norwayne appears to be that good. I think most on here had Norwayne in first, Hillsdale second. The DR did pick Hillsdale which surprised me.footballnut;905232 wrote:I don't understand why everyone is counting Hillsdale out. They are actually the favorite to win the WCAL. Anything can happen. Who thought at the beginning that the league would have such a poor OC record, and even with the addition of Bucyrus instead of Lucas it has not helped the Falcons. Loudonville appears to be the big "IF" for the Falcons. -
Mr. RussellFor Smithville or Waynedale to make the playoffs, winning 2 out of 3 against the top 3 of the league will get them in. I still believe that they will make it at 8-2. We will see though. Gotta beat each other, then Norwayne or Hillsdale..
-
Mr. RussellAlso, I know in Smithville's case, they believe they can beat all of those teams, and I am sure it is the same way for Waynedale and Hillsdale. If they do that, they definitely get in at 9-1 or 10-0 in Hillsdale's case.
-
Red RumNut,
I am not counting Hillsdale out, I am merely pointing out how events have conspired (region change, weak WCAL, etc) to make a playoff berth difficult for the Falcons. I still think the week 10 Norwayne/Hillsdale contest will be the WCAL game of the year.
In a nutshell, I think Hillsdale & Norwayne are the 2 top teams in the league and a step above everyone else. -
footballnutI have seen Norwayne play. I need to get to the Hillsdale/Smithville game. When do they play and where? I dont want to hurt Beasts feelings but I think those are the two that will challenge Norwayne. Waynedale can change all of that with a win this weekend however.
-
footballnutI will say that good coaching goes a long way in high school football. Last year I attended the Norwayne/Hillsdale game and Norwayne was way outcoached. Hillsdales coaches do a really nice job. If it's close I would definitely give the nod to Hillsdale because of the coaching.
I was surprised when I attended the Norwayne game a couple weeks ago. Many people (most of whom I dont know) were complaining about Norwaynes coaching. You always hear alot of that when things aren't going well but they're destroying teams. That shocked me. It sounds like Norwayne's coaches are actually trying to avoid playing kids both ways and that has a lot of people angry. There is talk that they are definitely taking a step down in several positions because of this philosophy. I certainly couldn't see it on the field however most of the concern is with the DB's and the other team didn't throw much on them. I understand they have a couple youngsters back there that aren't cutting it. -
Go FalconsNut: Hillsdale plays Smithville next week under the new lights at home.
-
OQBWe've seen it year in and year out....the top WCAL team slips up at least once during league play. Norwayne keeps blowing these teams out and not really playing a full game.....as history shows, they will most likely slip up somewhere.
-
footballnutIt looks like I'm off to Hillsdale a week from Friday. Hopefully I get to see a good one. I'd love to see Hillsdale and norwayne match up undefeated, last game of the year.
I agree with OQB. It's seems rare for a team to make it through the WCAL unscathed. -
OQBI'm not saying it can't be done....I just don't see it happening with the way the league history is.
-
Go Falcons
History does not have WCAL Champion and Hillsdale/Norwayne in the same sentence either.OQB;905564 wrote:I'm not saying it can't be done....I just don't see it happening with the way the league history is. -
Red RumThis years WCAL race is actually pretty interesting. Maybe not as good as in past years, but there's still some drama left.
I call the following, "the Red Rum Model". It is full of assumptions, so please don't create any perceived disrespect to your team as none is intended.
"RR" Model Rankings
1A-Norwayne
1B-Hillsdale
2A-Smithville
2B-Waynedale
WCAL as I see it: 4 possible championship contenders remain. (NOR, HILLS, SMV, WD)
The above are all operating under the assumption of 4-0 conference records.......that is beating nwn, dal, ritt & chip.
The championship chase begins Fri 9/23 with Waynedale hosting Smithville. The loser is basically out of it as they still must face the big 2 (Nor,Hills) with a conference loss.
Sept 30 is a really big week as the contenders all face off. Waynedale at Norwayne / Smithville at Hillsdale.
I'm guessing someone will be officially eliminated after the dust clears on this week. Probably Waynedale or Smithville.
Oct 7-Hillsdale travels to Waynedale. Probable end of tough 3 weeks for Bears and title hopes. Possible stumbling block for Falcons or even their own Waterloo.
Oct 14- Week of chest beating and stat padding.
Oct 21- If the Smithies are still in the hunt, a visit by the Bobcats will be a huge game and chance to reclaim old glory. I see the final nail in a big green coffin.
Oct 28- The BIG one! Wild, Wonderful Crestvirginia, Ohio....Hillsdale at Norwayne. 2 highly talented and motivated teams battle for the trophy and bragging rights. Hillsdales post season hopes will probably be on the line and Norwayne will be jacked up for the biggest home game since hosting Smithville in a battle of the unbeatens in the early 90s. I'd tell you what happens....but what fun would that be?
note: a brief history of Red Rum predictions-
The sun will rise in the east on Monday Sept 19, 2011.......Nailed it. Spot on.....I am Nostradamus.
Bucyrus will win some games for Hillsdale........................well, maybe not.
Rittman will spank Mapleton..........................................I blame Billy boy Dennis, that friggin team wrecker!!!! -
Old Rider^^^ Thats great! LOL.
..any Norwayne vs. Orrville in the post-season in your crystal ball there Nostradamus? -
PaulOk footballnut repeat after me " NORWAYNE, NORWAYNE, NORWAYNE". Do that a couple hundard times and maybe you will get it. Bobcat stalk!
