BEARIDEROK ,Orrville schedules ..what one team a year? They can't play everyone. I don't think any of the teams wants to be dumped off the schedule so some one can play Orrville. Have to go to 11 games a year.

iced earthI'm a WCAL league guy....and I'm telling you all the gap has widend between Orrville and the best WCAL teams. The coaching in the OCC is much more advanced on both sides of the ball.
-
beverboy1ill agree with you on the first part . i don't agree with the coaching part !
-
you think you know
Both Conferences have some excellent coach's and some piss poor ones.iced earth;963974 wrote:I'm a WCAL league guy....and I'm telling you all the gap has widend between Orrville and the best WCAL teams. The coaching in the OCC is much more advanced on both sides of the ball. -
iced earthI wasn't talking quality of individuals coaching... I was talking X and O's.... You see teams checking off to weak coverages, playing nickle and even dime on 3rd down. The offenses and defensive schemes are just way more advanced in the OCC. The WCAL is a call the play and run it league. I 've seen plenty of both leagues over the last 3 years, you just don't see the at the line adjustments and changes in the WCAL as you do in the OCC.

I agree. My kids went/go to Smithville but I actually live closer to Orrville. I have seen a lot of WCAL football and Orrville football. With the exception of teams like the 02 and 04 Smithies, Orrville would dominate WCAL teams.iced earth;963974 wrote:I'm a WCAL league guy....and I'm telling you all the gap has widend between Orrville and the best WCAL teams. ... -

Some Orrville teams would, but remember that Orrville goes through down years, too. As I mentioned earlier, I doubt the 2001 Orrville team (2-8) would have, and probably wouldn't have finished any higher than 4th in the WCAL that year (from the several games of theirs I saw).tsst_fballfan;964691 wrote:I agree. Years like this year, I agree that they'd at least be a favorite for the league if not run through it. We'll find out which is closer to true this Friday night. -
5knotsIt is silly talk to think Orrville or any team would dominate among local schools. You see this occur in some parts of the state because all the good players decide to go to one school because their is little sense of community. You do not have that here in Wayne county. That is why we all love living here and raising children here. Community pride, School pride, we are blessed. Let's enjoy this weekend for what it is, two deserving football teams who will both give their best effort. Unfortunately, only 1 can win. That doesn't prove or disprove anything except that that team played a better game that night. Don't fall into all this crap the DR is trying to juice. They are creating divisions between neighbors...and we don't need that here. Yes it is a big game and for that we should all be pleased we can a part of it. Go Red Riders!

Well said. I agree!! Well said. But Orrville and Norwayne fans, alike, were creating "divions between neighbors" before the DR article was printed. Now that the DR has caught wind of it and printed the article (which made Orrville look bad with that quote), Orrville fans are backing off, changing their stance, and attacking the DR for blowing this game out of proportion.5knots;964725 wrote:It is silly talk to think Orrville or any team would dominate among local schools. I wholeheartedly agree with the first half of your quote, though. Our area is blessed with community support, pride, and great rivalries. Orrville has the best athletic program in the area, so it is a privilege and motivation when others get to measure themselves against the Red Riders. On the other hand, it's a privilege and motivation for the Red Riders to prove their reputation to be correct, having the best athletics in the area.
This should be a great game with a great crowd, and I cannot wait! -

Apparently you haven't been reading the daylate record all football season ( 2-8 season kind of makes you lose the interest in football ) as the dork has brought this up waaaaay back when the regions were announced and as mentioned it several times since then. So he chooses to pick an anonymous July poster to include in his unbiased story and uses that as a representative of most fans and uses none from anonymous sources from other views. What a DORK he is :laugh:thePITman;964792 wrote:I agree!! Well said. But Orrville and Norwayne fans, alike, were creating "divions between neighbors" before the DR article was printed. Definitely missed, those, then! Here's one good thing about that poster's comment - at least he didn't say that Orrville has been kicking field goals on 2nd and 3rd down to get the kicker some practice in game situations. Haha! Some people may view Orrville or Norwayne fans as cocky, but the last 2 years with Genoa take the cake, IMO.riders1;964951 wrote:Apparently you haven't been reading the daylate record all football season ( 2-8 season kind of makes you lose the interest in football ) as the dork has brought this up waaaaay back when the regions were announced and as mentioned it several times since then. -

There's 2 versions of the article that will be written Saturday night.
1. Orrville wins because other team made a lot of mistakes.
2. DAVID SLAYS GOLIATH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

I agree but those would be the anomoly not the rule. Trust me there is nothing I would like to see more than a Rider-Smithie game every year in which the Green machine won. But the reality is that Orrville's average 6-4 to 8-2 teams are better than the top of the WCAL MOST years. This game will be a great example. This is an average at best Orrville team, in contrast this is probably one of the best Norwayne teams in the past two decades, but this game is still a toss up. If this were the 06 Rider team it would not be a close game. IMHOO-Trap;964700 wrote:Some Orrville teams would, but remember that Orrville goes through down years, too. To what do you attribute this idea? Orrville's talent pool isn't that much deeper in number (male student count). Their players usually aren't grossly larger or faster. Is there some other X-factor about happening to grow up in the Orrville school district as opposed to a block away in the Smithville or Dalton school districts?tsst_fballfan;965205 wrote:I agree but those would be the anomoly not the rule. If not, one might say coaching. However, I'd be interested in the defense for that as well, as every year seems to bring Orrville faithful saying they lost games they should have won ... even this year's fans seem to think their team has Jekyll/Hyde tendencies.
I think that some of this notion stems from a mystique surrounding a local team that seems to do pretty well against schools in larger divisions. However, I think there's more parity between non-polar divisions than many think.
Saying all that, Orrville does have a very proud tradition. They're easily the most playoff-seasoned team, historically. They've had legendary coaches, and they were even the program that built a starting OSU quarterback (regardless of where he spent the end of his HS career).
I'm hoping for a good game, and I think that's what we're going to get. -
BRFYou answered your own question. Perhaps you were just "thinking out loud" like 5knots does sometimes.

The playoff appearances were RESULTS of them having good teams, and they're hardly the only team in Wayne County to have a great coach.BRF;965383 wrote:You answered your own question. Perhaps you were just "thinking out loud" like 5knots does sometimes.
Those are why they should be proud of their history, but a great team isn't made that way. -
OQBI think another way to look at it is this way......When Orrville has a great player they usually have some college offers, and go on to play D1 football. Sure the WCAL has had plenty of D1 guys and rightfully so, but when you look at the great players the past 10-12 years, where have they gone on to play?
Smithville:
All the Beichler boys
Kauffman
Indermuhle (sp?)
etc....
Dalton:
Jackson
Stutz
Miller
Waynedale:
Nofsinger
Northwestern:
Kaleb Reed
Morrison
Rittman:
Jesse Richards
Brandon Bauman
Chippewa:
Busson
Hillsdale:
Faulk
Those are just the guys that I could think of off the top of my head....and really did well in the WCAL.
Orrville has had
Hiller, Western Michigan 2005 QB
Ladrach, Akron 2008 TE
Hoobler, Indiana 2010 LB
Miller, Kent State 2010 Athlete
Pirman, Nebraska 2011
Turner, Ball State 2012
Davis, a few MAC offers 2012
Monheim, multiple offers 2012
Brenner, a few MAC looking at him 2012
Those are just the Division 1 guys.... -
O-TrapSmithville:
Drew Beichler: Baldwin-Wallace
Kevin Beichler: Walsh
Kyle Kauffman: none that I know of, but I can't say whether he got offers
Ben Olsen: Baldwin-Wallace
Ryan Ferguson: Baldwin-Wallace
Tommy Sines: Mount Union
Seth Ream: Ohio University
Gabe Middleton: College of Wooster (thought I believe he had an offer from Yale)
I think Paul Kelby or Zach Douglass from this year's team has a BigTen D1 offer, but don't quote me.
There are probably others I'm forgetting.
(I know several of the above opted for smaller schools so they could play as underclassmen, as well as a bunch who were given offers, but opted not to play.) -

Good info!
If they decided to go to a smaller school to get more PT then good for them...or if they didn't want to play college football at all, I was just going off what I knew....I knew a lot of them went to smaller schools, but don't remember anything written in the papers about them having big school offers.
also, Orr from Smithville is at Ball State.....forgot that one.
