    good post

Exactly!!! IF they would get back to throwing the slants and "hot routes" which is the slot guy/TE whenever he sees a blitz he just replaces that linebacker and we get an easy 5-7 yds...probably more with Stew. We also had a choice route, which is basically if the DB is 7-10 yards off we are running a stop route, if he is up on you, you burn him deep. I think we have to throw shorter passes to set up that big play that everyone wants to see.

The staff has to find a way to get the ball in his hands where seperation exists. Stu is super fast but there is no way he would hold up if he had to consistently take big hits. The last thing we can afford is for him to be hurt. Db's are going to respect him. They may need to feed him more short routes to pull the DB's in then go for the homerun. They definitely need to implement more slants in the game plan.
EXACTLY my point that I made on the previous page.

Once you verbal your scholarship is confirmed even if you get injured. That's one reason why it is advantageous to verbal early. The kid has the option to opt out of the verbal offer and select another school, but the school is obligated to the kid once the verbal offer is accepted.

Both were in full gear a practiced yesterday. the post about someone getting touches because the parents are rich boosters is so far from the truth not even worth responding to. You know nothing about Orrville football. Turner is a game changer. He has not been effective as a RB...they have tried and would love for that to work out. He is best in space. We try the jet sweep with mild success. that doesn't mean we stop trying to get him the ball and what didn't work for a while could change. It is up to him to get open and Kyle to deliver the ball. I was never a QB so I am not a good one to give advice....but If I had Turner running a route I would have my eye on him every play.
  • OQB
We do run the jet sweep with Turner, but that is all we ever do. We don't play action pass, off of that, turner could run a wheel route and read the defender....if he bails you stop on the sideline, if he is hesitant, Turner burns him deep. They could run so many plays off that sweep to turner...the thing is we run the one obvious play and everyone knows what is is and when it's coming.

Our offense is hindering us again this year just like last year. It needs to improve, plain and simple. One thing that will sustain drives is to eliminate the stupid motion penalties....that will help, but not solve the problem. We need a total team effort Friday. O-line has to get their butt in gear and block for the running game. Our RB's cannot fumble the ball, and our QB needs to play better in both his reads and throws. I look for all these things to be better tomorrow night. It is hard for me to get on the staff when many times vs Copley the perfect play was called and we just did not execute? 2-3 of those calls were TDs. Any one in the stands saw it. That is 21 points we left off the board when the perfect play was called. You cannot make the perfect call every time, but when you do...we need to make it work. When it was obvious our QB was struggling they made the decision to pound the ball....it was tough going....but in the end it worked. We have the ball inside the 5, 2nd down, and we fumble. We would have run it one more time I suspect....if we don't score a TD, we kick a field goal and win. I know we are all sore and wanted to win, but you cannot overcome all those negatives as a coaching staff and expect to beat a decent team.

It is hard to respond to you QB w/o calling kids out....let's just say this...the staff knows exactly what you know and have called plays exactly what you are talking about and they were not executed properly??? You were in High School not long ago, so I am sure you can recall similar circumstances.

Coach Davault had a great quote in the paper today addressing a lot of things.
  • 5knots
These are all good points BTW
  • OQB
Here are Coach Davault's quotes if you haven't read them yet today:

"Lex has three or four Div. I college recruits just like we do," Davault said. "Their quarterback (6-foot-5 Collin Michael, Buffalo recruit), tight end (Tanner Kearns, Indiana recruit), running back (Brandon Henderson), and safety/wide receiver Tyler Jackman (Youngstown State recruit) are all very athletic kids. We saw some great talents against Copley, too. I think we made Copley's running back look average and he's a great player, who's getting looks from Tennessee and Illinois. We played good enough to win last week on defense, but have to get better on offense."

"We have 11 turnovers and 30 penalties in three games and we've got to cut down on that," Davault said. "People always want to focus in on the quarterback position in football, but it's a variety of things. As coaches, we need to do a better job of putting kids in their comfort zones to make plays. It's always a work in progress and we'll keep working to become more efficient."

    11 turnovers and 30 penalties.

No more needs said. We're LUCKY to be a 2-1 team at this point.

We are AVERAGING almost 4 turnovers per game and are averaging 10 penalties.

I'd like to see those numbers cut in half (at least) tomorrow night.
  • OQB
Exactly RR1, but the good thing is those are things that WE control.

    +1
  • BRF
Turner has a sore shoulder but WILL be playing. Brenner's ankle is ok, too.Edit: Davis has his new brace, too.

No luck in being 2-1, we totally dominated in the 2 wins with 881 total yards to 386 total yards, turnovers were 4 each against Northwest, 2 int each against Triway. Northwest had 7 penalties , Triway with only 2 ( but you have to do something to get penalties , which Triway didn't) and Copley had more penalties than we did 11 to 10. 16 to 18 year olds are not going to play the perfect game, just like they don't all get 100 on tests in class, but we aren't yelling about the teachers not motivating all to get 100's ( well maybe we could in BRF's case, just kidding BRF :). Just relax, stay calm, expect to win and enjoy the wins, but don't be like the Browns fans I hear that want the coach gone, the QB gone after 1 loss. Undefeated Super Bowl winners only happened once, and those are pros getting paid not high school kids.

Look at the positives these young men are doing and enjoy that, don't let the negatives dominate over the postives these kids are accomplishing.

very Nice riders1. We just don't like to lose here......Coach D wouldn't want us to accept last week. I agree about moving on and focus on positive.
  • RedRider1
    well said riders1.......

I think the kids have a lot to prove tomorrow night...to themselves, to each other, to the coaches and to us armchairs. I think we thrive when our backs are against the wall.

Just have to go out and show it......let's play some Rider ball.
  • CCRolly
I have a feeling that you guys will be feeling a lot better about your Riders at this time tomorrow night. Good luck!

Wow its been a long week on this site with all the bantering and anger back and forth. I love the passion Orrville fans bring to the table. There is no football like Orrville football and we all are passionate about it. Tomorrow we have an opportunity to bury the Copley loss and put it behind us and get back to winning! We all want the same thing tomorrow night and that is a win against Lexington! Go Red RIders!!!!
  • riders1
Exactly, we overcame a heartbreaking 2 ot loss to Copley last year ( I would hate to go back and read that thread that week ) and did lose 2 more after that on the way to a State Semifinal game. So forget last week and go RED RIDERS beat Lex!
  • Old Rider
One thing that concerns me after a loss is how these 15-18 year old kids will respond. But I'm not talking about how they respond on the field, but rather mentally.

It is so easy for kids to start pointing fingers at each other and blaming certain players for the loss. Then enter...EGOS! When a certain player doesn't get the ball as much as he would like or a player feels that another is getting more "media" exposure, it can cause problems between kids. I witnessed this first hand my senior year after we lost to CCC.

We got back on track and ended up State Runner-Up that season. I am looking forward to watching this game as it plays out on the field, but keep an eye on body language...it tells a lot about what is going on in a kids mind!

    GO RED RIDERS!

Well said Old Rider. I think we will bounce back from adversity and be stronger for it. However, only the actions on the field will tell.
  • 1_beast
good luck getting back on track this week

    Let's go Riders!
