Orrville Red Rider Football 2011

OQBok found it....haha
We are at 214 for boys, seems that number keeps going down everytime realignment happens. -
5knotsI vote for three games there this year. Regular season and then week 12 and 13 of playoffs. That would be just fine
-
OQBtotally agree with you 5knots....haha
I think for Arlin to be an excellent stadium upgrades to the lockerrooms will need to happen, but having turf is a big need. -

It is about time Arlin got turf......that was the downfall to that stadium. It is always wet and muddy there....I remember back in 2002 when Smithville played Delphos St. Johns there and it was a mud bowl. I think it was after that game the OHSAA mandated all games from regional finals on have to be on turf.
I think it's only a few years away in Orrville......just have to be patient.
Watched Smithville/St.Johns and it was definitely a mud bowl. There was a DI game there the week before ( I think Massillon) in the mud and the field for the Smithville game was like 6" of muck. -
OneBuckeyeGood news for Mason. Joe Bolden just committed to Michigan. I think Mason will be the next in state LB to get an offer, hopefully his camp goes well.
-
5knotsThats three LB committs for Hoke. 2 from Ohio although neither had a Buckeye offer. Actually none of the three of them had an OSU offer. They were only going to take 3-4 this class. I'd say TSUN is done with LBs. Good!
-
eagles085 knots, any update on the recruiting trail for Mason? Lexington just had their 3rd senior-to-be pick up a D1 offer over the weekend.

5knotsThat just goes to show you the effort BJ Payne puts in over at Lex. And he was getting dogged pretty hard on some Lex threads last year. Some calling for his job. He has three kids with DI offers with the last one a kid with an offer from Army. i think 2 of the Galick boys went to an Academy as well in the past. This off a team that had very limited success last year. he took a whole group on a camp circuit during the summer. Looks like it has paid off for them. Schools have til the end of May to visit your High School. OSU was in last week and some others. it will be a busy month for coach Davault. All should appreciate his time and effort as well. Can't measure that. Well maybe you can....Ladrach at Akron...Hoobler at IU....Pirman with Nebraska....Simmons and Bowman at ONU.....Bunch at Heidelberg...etc.etc...Thanks coach D

Both coaches do a great job in getting players to the next level. I would say Lex and Orrville easily have put more kids in college football than the rest of the league combined in the past few years.5knots;756187 wrote:That just goes to show you the effort BJ Payne puts in over at Lex. Coach Davault has done an outstanding job getting kids to the college level.....a lot of his work goes unseen and "off the clock" which shows his dedication to not only the Orrville football program, but how devoted he is to the kids he coaches. What a perfect hire that was back in 2006!
Players Coach Davault has helped play college ball:
2007
Kyle Simmons-ONU D. III
Josh Bowman-ONU D. III
Isaiah Tyler- Wooster D. III
Brad Thomas-Ashland, Baseball D. II
2008

Michael McMorrow- Heidelberg D. III
Steven Carroza-Heidelberg D. III
Brynt Werntz-Malone D. II

That's quite a nice and long list of great Red Riders! -
5knots#2 MLB prospect in the country James Ross from Michigan who held offers from all the biggies...ND, OSU, you name it and he had an offer, has committed to MICH. Big four star pick up for the wolverines, he was the #1 guy on many boards. Hoke could not have taken the UM job at a better time....when was the last time OSU lost a star to MICH?

If he was from Ohio I would be worried but he is from Michigan and grew up a Michigan fan. Now if we lose a big in state LB'er to michigan like the kid from Centerville Idelfi Olengbangio (Sp?) (he is more of a DE IMO) then I would be super worried and raise those flags. -
5knotsThis is true, I really thought this guy would choose Notre Dame. four early LB committs For Hoke. I think Defensive Coordinator Greg Mattison has a lot to do with it as well. Great opportunity for a LB.

Right, they got 2 kids from Ohio with offers from everyone except OSU and two of the biggest in state kids. Their LB recruiting couldn't have gone more to plan.
Ohio State still has Deshawn Rippy from PA who will be the most likely big OOS recruit this year and a bunch of other longshots. As well as Idelfi. Time will tell on OSU's class and it may be awhile. -
5knotsYEah this really the only guy so far that is noteworthy OSU has lost to TSUN and he grew up a Wolverine so it probably i not as big a deal really. It does however signify a definite change in attitude toward TSUN from recruits.

Old RiderOQB...I believe Groves is going to the College of Wooster (football) as well for the 2011 class.
-
5knotsI heard that as well.

RedRider1Closing in on 100 days......
I know it's way too early for predictions/projections...but if the general thought is that we should be as good/better than last year, that puts us in the conversation for the state title, right?
Sort of hard to fathom, but we'll be in the discussion....like it or not.
Right now, this seems a lot like the 1994 & 1995 season. The '94 team went to the state finals with a talented group of juniors (Denson, Ray, Zwick, Reusser, etc.) and a group of seniors on the line. The 95 team was predicted to go all the way but ran the table in the regular season but ran into a buzzsaw in the Bellaire Big Red in the state semis (Jose Davis & Ben Taylor).
I guess my point is it's always about the chemistry on a team, not necessarily about the "pieces" returning. We'll be good, maybe OCC champs good....but there's still underclassmen who will need to step up and contribute.
Who knows from week to week...but on paper, we'll be in the discussion on a statewide level. -
5knotsIf that cut off number is where some think it will be for div 4 it may be a year to make a run. I know alter and chagrin falls would bump to three. Chagrin had a ton of skill back. They would have had to a favorite in region 13 as they had won it two years now. Door is opening even if it is just a crack
-
RedRider1Hadn't had time to look at the numbers...didn't know about Chagrin possibly jumping. That would indeed open things up a bit as they had just as much and maybe more returning talent than us.
No Alter, no Steubenville, no Mooney, no Chagrin.
We'd definately be on the short list. -
5knotsKenton will get a bunch of nods with Mauk returning. We know oh too well what a great gunslinger can do for any team. They will be a threat. Will be nice to avoid them til the finals...yeah...I'll take that,,,Us and Kenton in the D IV state finals! Its money! lol

RedRider1OQB, 5knots or Flash,
What's the story on new helmets for this year? Heard that some helmets were set to be retired (or handed down) but it was decided that an entire new batch of varsity helmets would be ordered for this season.
Any details or confirmation? Hopefully this batch is painted better to avoid the ugly scratching that was showing by week 5 last year. -
5knotsLatest is that since the seniors have the option to purchase their helmet after the season they will be allowed to buy a helmet that they want. FYI every DI program we have visited has many different helmets/styles/manufacturers on the field at the same time. In the past the kids could buy their helmet for $50 or so, but starting last year the school could not afford that with new helmets costing 200-400 bucks. So, for the seniors at least they have a few to choose from and can purchase them up front and then keep them. That is all I know right now. Not sure about the paint jobs on the reconditioned ones....hopefully better than last year.
