Orrville Red Rider Football 2011

Great points 5knots, Absolutely dead on! I just like numbers and anytime we can get a kid out that is willing to put in the work makes me happy. I have no idea who isa going to be the starting 5 offensive lineman......I'm leaving that up to our coaches, but giving them another option or two can never hurt in their decision making. If anything it just gives us added depth and that is invaluable at the Division IV level, where most of your players go both ways. If we have 6-7 quality lineman that can play varsity, and start a rotation to keep guys fresh, that will help us win in the 4th quarter when we are pounding the ball to run the clock out.

You were a lot nicer with that answer than I would have been! ;-)

To 5knots: I hear what you're sayin', but I lean to OQB explanation. Get all the available bodies out. Scour the halls and give that one or two big boys a shot. If they were out before and are even thinking about going out again, then that means that they made a mistake by quitting. Let them have another shot and get "molded" back by the stalwarts.

Times have changed and you have to adjust and we are small enrollment. All this is just IMO, of course.

What we need is Sandra Bullock to show up and blind side us with a lineman :)

Does Tim McGraw own the Taco Bell in Orrville? If not, good luck.

Oh I am with you BRF. I just wanted to give the kids who have been there some kudos and not put all the hope in faith in the maybes. I want everyone to want to be Rider. I'll root for all of them for sure.

That is good and was what I was hoping for from you, 5knots! I know that there are some who say "the heck with ya if you quit and want to come back". My point was that we need all the bodies we can get!

What is up with the Tim McGraw and Taco Bell comment? Must be some kind of attempt at humor!

I was collaborating information from the movie.

I know there isn't a place to go see a picture show,or a talkie like they called back in your day, over there in Orrville. Maybe you could go rent the VHS and get up to speed on what we were discussing.

TY for the info to keep me up to date........troll! Ha ha and how are you liking JJ lately?
  • THE4RINGZ

I like the idea of play clocks with our type of offense.
However....what happens everytime the clock gets around 5 seconds left? You start hearing an over anxious crowd yelling "snap it. snap it" Then all of a sudden we have a qb feeling rushed or a coach maybe yelling "snap it" and hurrying a play? just a thought.

...not to mention an already confused ref having to not only watch the formation, but now a play clock that is visible by the entire stadium.

Glad someone else was thinking this too Haha.

With all the delay of game penalties we seem to get , a play clock is the best thing for that, of course your qb has to be alert and aware, but then he already should be a leader on the field anyway and practice with a play clock would help.
  • BRF
Old Rider gives an "old" guy viewpoint. That is good. But times have changed. I noticed the play clock at our play-off venues. We should get up to speed also.
  • OQB
Maybe it will help the coaches speed up the play calling as well, instead of taking a lot of time getting the play into the players....that was probably 85% of the delay of game penalties last year.

Not having QB run to sideline after every play would help too.

And I agree with BRF, you see them in the playoffs, might as well get used to them. It would look better if the play clocks were on turf, but that's just me.

I wonder who's going to run the play clock? A whole separate person, or same person who runs scoreboard?
  • OQB
I do know this, they aren't running electric out to them VIA underground....just going to use extension cords. I think they are waiting to replace the track and all our hopes of a turf field before they run electric out to them.

Tim Hiller's team is coming for a 7-7 in late July. The kids are going to be housed by host families. I like this idea a lot. Good job staff in setting this up, it should be a neat experience for everyone. This is in addition to Massillon 7-7 and Akron U 7-7. We are getting closer!
  • RedRider1
That's awesome.....what a neat experience for the kids.

Mason is visiting Northwestern, Illinois and BC this weekend?? Sounds like a long weekend.
“Illinois was my first offer (last November),” Mason Monheim said. “I really like coach Ron Zook. He actually used to coach at my high school a while back and he knows this area really well.” Although Northwestern has not offered yet, Monheim says the Wildcats seem very interested. “Northwestern is a great academic school and I’m a school-first kind of guy. They are probably one of the best..."
  • RedRider1
It will stretch into spring break which is next week for Orrville....but still sounds busy for Mason & his family.

Good luck to him. Sounds like Northwestern might be a good fit if they offer. Good blend of athletics and academics there.
