Orrville Red Rider Football 2011

  • riders1
Time to get ready for game 1 at home versus Northwest. It's not too early for Red Rider Football. :)
  • Red Rider Dad
We have alot to carry into 2011 also. We will reload and prepare for another long play-off run.......and might just get over the hump next year. Great coaching staff, great atheletes returning, means a GREAT 2011 SEASON.

The question is who would be our starting offensive line?
  • BRF
Nice job in getting the thread started, riders1! Go Riders!
  • OQB
OK just a little something funny to get some laughter.....

    Classic QB! rofl!
  • OQB
If I must point out, this would not be a recruiting violation....ANY member school of the OHSAA is allowed to promote their school with ads. (of course they cannot be 100% about athletics) but you get the idea, why not promote your school?

Welp, we got up to 7 posts before the trolling began.

Great Sign QB. We'll have everything but linemen next year. We even had to play some Sr in JV games this year. We need some serious beef.

You might want to adjust that to AFFORDABLE housing........

Anyone think us running a little wildcat with someone like Stew Turner would be neat to see? Even Mason. CF ran that very well last night. No reason why we couldn't.
  • OQB
RedRider1....I have said that about 3-4 times earlier this year, but nobody seemed to like the idea on here.

I think it is a good idea and it does 2 things for us:

    1. Creates new plays to get Stew the ball.
    2. Makes the opposing team prepare for something else.

It opens up a variety of options with Stew, Mason, Matt, and Drew all capable of being a part of that wildcat or what I would call "WildRider"

I personally think we will be back to the Rider offense of old and be more pass happy. I say this because we lost 4/5 lineman, graduated Tre, both starting recievers returning, and have a 2,000 yard passer returning as well. Look for the longer Kyle is our QB, the more that will be our strength...(last nights performance aside)

Do I agree with that, no because we have seen how far one dimensional teams go in the playoffs....you have to be balanced and I think with Mason and Matt returning with the addition of an underclassman, we can and should have a good running game. I would like to see us use the run first throw second offense.

Passing game needs to get back to the way it was, we can't rely on a fade route every single game. We have to get back to running the combo routes (slants and outs, crossing routes, and playaction) I would like to see the "hot route" that we used when teams blitzed when Tim, Kyle, and Myself were QB. It is hard to stop, and as long as you can get a clean throw off it is usually and easy 5-7 yards, sometimes a lot more. Josh Graber was probably the best receiver to pick up the blitz and replace that LB in the spot where he was blitzing from. This route means the receiver and QB have to be on the same page, QB has to see the hot throw. Everyone thought I was staring down a defense and was very obvious to where I was going to throw because I knew where I was going with the ball with the "hot route". In order for Kyle to be more successful next season, we have to start calling other pass plays than the fade/seam route. A lot of teams we play are affraid to get burned by Stew and Drew so they are playing 10 yards off of them, call a slant pass and pick up 5-7 yards, they are athletic enough to turn those 5 yard passes into 60 yard TD's.

Ok, I'm off my soapbox for the night :D haha

I watched the film last night...had to stop after a while...if we would have only kept running the ball a much different outcome Friday. Baffles me to no end. I think of what I watched..of every time we ran out of the I with worst play was 3 yards....worst one. Every time w pitched to Tre....very good yardage only did that a couple times. Every drive we had ended bad due to throwing the ball.....not Kyles fault on some of those....sacks, holding call on one(that would have been a sack if not for the hold)....wind. Seems the same story each game...maybe it is just me, but when you are in the state semis you need put together drives...not hope for a home run in a 25 mph wind. Not once did we try Mason at tail and Matt at full back..not once. Once you got past the down linemen you were into the only weak spot on that team in the center of the D. I just can't believe we do not stick with run game.

I'm off my soap box too...

I could see Drew running a wildcat. He can pass and run and it would be very unpredictable. LOL
  • OQB
We have so many weapons, and a lot of different options from those weapons. You can have a big play on the ground..hence those back to back 30+ yard runs by Tre and Stew. They as in coaches have said all year, we want to run the ball....they needed to stick with it, and like you said 5knots put the big combo in of mason and matt and let them grind out a long drive, with maybe a few playaction passes.

Once we are struggling its like they are affraid to try something different and I'm really baffled at that.

Congrats to all those young men, and thank you for 14 awesome weeks of football!
  • you think you know
First off I don't want to be a TROLL, Congratulations to the Red Riders on a great run, went to the game and agree with the previous statements could not understand
how Turner could only run the ball 1 time for 38 yds and nothing more, felt sorry for Lichti getting thrown to the wolves right off the bat with a screen pass, why not run the
ball and get him settled in a rhythm, look forward to the 2011 season as both our teams get to reload , good luck in the future and congratulations on the awards.

(5nots nice meeting you at the game and nice RV, thanks for the hospitality.)

C'mon guys... we can go through all the woulda, shoulda, couldas we want but, the fact is this staff led us to the D IV State Semis! Why not thank them for their great accomplishments! Final 4 in D IV & Final 2 among Public schools! You're gonna question their strategy? I'm sure their beating themselves up enough but you can bet the staff is probably already working on getting the Riders back to that D IV semi. I'm looking forward to next year- I can very easily see an even better team than the great one we just cheered for the past 14 weeks! Weight room's gonna be very crowded the next 8 months!

Darn right .....we question everything on here! haha. And I will let you in on a little secret....our staff, although none of them read this stuff....love the passion the Rider fans have. Coach Davault had told me after the Clear Fork game he was leaving the field and a fan was letting him know what how he felt about his performance that night and Coach Davault said he just ignored him...but wishes after he a chance to reflect on it that he would have had the presence of mind to tell the fan "I appreciate your passion....don't ever lose it, and you should be upset with how we played and coached" . That in a nutshell, is Orrville Football at it's finest.

Do not mistake our chatter as a knock on anything that was accomplished this year. We are very very proud.
  • OQB
Exactly! Haha this is the place where we voice our opinions and frustration with other Rider fans who feel the same way.

Saying that I wouldn't want any other coaching staff, we are blessed to have them, and the best part is they are all Orrville graduates!

I look for Soph to be Zook to spell Mason and Davis in the backfield. He and classmate Sommers will be huge additions to the team as they will be capable of stepping directly into starting roles. Heard Sommers has agreed to move to Offensive Guard for next year....what a stud he will be in that role after Brent Steiner gets done with him! Tyrone White will step in for Tre at that lock down corner spot. Zook on D will take over for Cody Rice as that do all rover/sam guy. We also Have Sommers in that mix of LBs to use as well. Good group coming back! We will count on Trevor White to play on both sides of the ball. He is so quick and active up front....fun to watch!
  • OQB
Good to hear about sommers, that's a team player. I'm going to be completely honest, I was in DQ last night looking at the team photo, and saw sommers and i thought to myself they need to put him on the line but never thought it would happen, figured they would uae him as a fb/lb.
