Week 13: Marlington vs Dover

  • Hobgoblin
If Dover cuts the mistakes out, they'll beat the Alliance All-Stars by 14+...

Otherwise, this game will go down to the wire...

Don't underestimate this Dover team people!

But Dover has not clicked on all cylinders yet and they are more balanced team!! Btw Dovers defense is not bad either quick on the ends and a little stout up front. You guys will be surprised how good they are!! Just a side note Sheridan did not score less than 40 points all year until last night. So this game will not be a blow out by any means!! Coming from an Alum from Fairless located in stark county.
    I love your username - I know/deal with a lot of Amish!

Also like your post. I feel much the same about this Dover team. They've come a long way this year and I'm of the opinion that we can stand up to any Div3 team left and, win or lose, put in a good showing. There are a few blithering idiots on OC who dislike Dover and will always staunchly refuse to acknowledge our accomplishments - I mostly don't even bother to read their posts. Won't take you long to know who they are.

We've been hearing it since week 10; "You don't want to face Big Red in the first round - their offense is fast and relentless, their defense will shut you down - you go to Death Valley, you don't stand a chance!" Then it was; "Sheridan will run over you all night, they're big and strong - they're the real deal - you don't stand a chance!" Now we hear much the same about Marlington. Truth be known, Steubenville, Sheridan and Marlington are all fine teams but it just catches in some people's craws to accept that Dover may be as well!

    ...and btw, welcome to OC!

Thanks crimson and gray hair... Here lately they have been more balanced on offense with keith johnson running the ball!! But Marlington does have to studs at running backs. All I will say that Dover beat 2 very class programs in Sheridan and Steubenville!! Which Steubenville was not bad at all I would bet 90% of the teams in ohio would have gone 0 and 3 against Ursiline, Massillon and Dover. Or atleast have a losing record.

Wow, this should be a great game.

Dover sure turned out to be dangerous, and to think you almost didn't get in. You don't get a much tougher road than playing seeds 2,3 and 1.

Not going to make a call here, but I should probably get a ticket.
  • Go_Fast_Sports
I'd be willing to bet that there will be in excess of 15,000 fans there. Dover's usual crowd, Marlington's crowd, and and equal portion of neutral fans from both counties and beyond!

There should also be signs up that read, "Welcome to the State Finals preview". That's the caliber of this game.
  • dover2092
Dover and Marlington have BOTH EARNED the right to play in this game. Lets hope for a classic, hard hitting game - and pray for injury free. The young men participating in this game will remember it for the rest of their lives. Which ever team wins will represent Region 11 well.

    Good luck to both teams.

Marlington/Dover versus a "down" Mooney. (Or Buchtel)

This could just be R11's year.

Dover don't hang your hat on beating Sheridan so badly. It took Over time and our 2nd worst game of the year. Hard to win with 4 turnovers.

Mainly Marlington: If you shut down #15 and force the other wide-out's to try and catch the ball and not just go out and run fly patterns to clear the DB's you will win this game. All #12 did all night was run around (while his line held some) and look for #15 until he was open. Or toss the hitch and screen pass to him. And please don't say you ran all over us. You ran simple plays after our D was cleared covering all the kids running in circles around #15. (Hes good no doubt) I am not taking it away from DOVER or crying. These are the facts of what your O did all night. You didn't over power Sheridan or anything like that. It was evenly matched for 2 totally different offenses. In the end the ball "Bounced" your way. Congrats. Good Luck but I do think it will be different this week. You can't get lucky this much in a year. :D

I haven't seen Marlington play but A LOT of reports and not just on forums but a lot of people are saying they are the quiet storm this year. And I like it. No more talk about who they played in the season. Week 11 started the new season. So far both teams are 2-0. Good Luck to both. And like I said I can't wait to play DOVER in the reg season in the MVL vs. ECOL. If they dare come to our house. :D See ya next year because Sheridan will be back.

And I agree R11 has a great chance this year to win it all.

From what I have read Marlington is big and physical, they run the ball well ..This game is a toss up ..Dover probably has the coaching edge and they absolutley run a sophisticated offense . I think Ill flip a coin .

You're right, it is hard to win with 4 turnovers, just glad Dover was able to live on to tell about it.
And is it really a surprise you play one of your "worst" games of the year when you play one of the best teams you play all year? I could say the same about Dover's performance, but I won't because mistakes, turnovers, penalties can happen when you are playing against a quality opponent.

    Swinderman - 23 of 36 for 260 yards, 3INT/3TD/
    43 yards rushing/1 TD

    #15 - 13 receptions for 117 yards/ 2TD
    #32 - 14 carries for 64 yards/1TD
    #29 - 4 receptions for 72 yards/ 2 carries for 25 yards
#16 had a touchdown reception (plus 2 INTs) and #3 made probably the biggest catch of the game on 4th and 11 late in the 3rd quarter.
  • Hobgoblin
    Ya Woo,

    # 3 's catch was huge - no doubt about that!

On the otherhand, there is no shutting down of #15...he is unstoppable...

It's funny how we still don't get much respect...

    That'll change this week...

Oh, and let's not forget # 8 dropping a wide open td pass...

I would like to see Dover win.

That way...when it is Mooney vs. Dover in the state semis...skank's head might explode.

I'm excited about this one. Having seen both Sheridan and Licking Valley play, I was surprised by last week's scores. I figured Sheridan would come away with the victory fairly easily and that Licking Valley would keep it very close. This should be a fun one.

I don't post on here a lot but I had to respond to this one.

I didn't hear anyone on here saying that Dover beat Sheridan "badly". Both teams made mistakes and both teams capitalized on them, but Dover came out on top. They made the big stops when they had to. Did they get a lucky break with the bad snap for Sheridan in OT, heck yeah. But they still had to put those 6 points on the board to win it.

Give the kids from Dover the credit that they are due. They've gone out and beat the #2 and #3 seeds in their region and have a great chance at beating the #1 seed next week. This team is for real, they deserve some credit.

THANK YOU! These boys really do deserve a lot of respect for what they've done this season. This is the only thread I've read so far where many 'non-Dover' people are finally awarding them their due credit!

Pretty sure i am giving them credit here. Maybe you can't read text when its not negative content. Because yes some have posted here and on other boards a lot of trash after the win. I showed class.. A lot on here don't and most are from up north/east.

hence my point of shutting him down. And yes he can be shut down. Chuck on the line and help from behind if he beats off line. But that hit at the start will throw off the timing.
  • Krugliack
JRock, what game were you watching? Swinderman is very good at spreading the ball around. Sure, #15 is usually the go to receiver, but this team plays like a team...Not a one man show. You can load up on #15, but 3, 8, 16, 32 or even 12 will burn you. Woo's post shows just a glimpse of what this Dover offense does together. Keep it going Dover!!!

Is #15 the go to guy? Absolutely he is. But any offense is going to try to get the ball to their best player. But in recent weeks this Dover offense has shown they will go to other guys in key situations. And they managed to put up 37 points in a week 2 loss @ Ashland with Zahner only playing the first series of the ball game. Ashland is playing in a DII regional final this Friday night.

I really want to see Dover win this game, but after seeing Marlington...I just cannot see it happening. Those running backs and that line is tremendous. With that said...Dover always seems to find a way to stay in these games. I am going to say Marlington wins 34-24, but.....

    Go Tornadoes!!

    LOL!

Wes, don't let the tv fool you. Dover's line is every bit as big as Marlington's, if not bigger. I do agree though... stopping a 220lb back is going to be tough for Dover. However, stopping the red hot passing attack is going to be a very tough chore for the Dukes. LV's passing game wasn't nearly as good and they did a great job.
