Week 13: Genoa (12-0) vs. Orrville (9-3)
-
OQBNo Mooney played Alder that year in the state Championship and Mooney won!
Coldwater was my senior year. I was at that game and you would've thought I was from Coldwater haha that was a great game! -

Is that the year?
Do you guys think like I do...that the private schools should have their own division? -
OQB
Makes me want to put that uniform on! hahabuhrdog;562768 wrote:Wouldn't it be great to be in High School and play in a game this big. I played on Genoa's 89 team that went 10-0 and not make the playoffs. We always felt that team had what it took to win a couple of games in the playoffs.
I know some of you Orrville posters have been in games of this caliber...you can just imagine what is going through these kids heads right now. -
buhrdogI am with you QB...
-
buhrdogLets start a Genoa - Orrville Alumni game
-
OQBLast week I was talking to two of my close friends who I graduated with and played football with ever since 5th grade. We all wanted to be back in that Orrville Unifrom so bad! Their really is nothing like Ohio High School Football!
-
buhrdogNothing beats Friday Nights...I played at Defiance College and I never got pumped up like I did in High School.

Ummm....YEAH! My grandparents probably haven't missed a catholic mass in 50 years and they are the biggest catholic school haters I know LOL
They'll probably be the only 2 people in Genoa rooting for Kenton Friday night I know that
(and to all the Orvillians that does NOT have anything to do with looking past this Friday!!!!!!) -
OQBhaha I want Kenton to win too!
the first 2 weeks of the playoffs our defense has seeen 96 passes, and we have held the teams to 44% completion as well as their lowest scoring games of the year!
First up is Genoa though, and it is going to be a hard fought game! -
THE4RINGZDoes either team have a community pep rally scheduled for Thursday night?

That team was awesome. I can remember sitting inthe stands watching Planter fly past people like it was yesterday. ...and wasn't Benavides a southpaw?buhrdog;562768 wrote:Wouldn't it be great to be in High School and play in a game this big. I would like to see privates have no sports at all that compete in OHSAA events. If a kid wants to participate in OHSAA athletics he plays for the district he lives in. Period. He can go to school to whatever private school he wants but that is where it ends. And I am Catholic! It is ridiculous that the OHSAA does not have the you know whats to do something about this....time to see who is represented on the Board....I would think you may be surprised where they graduated from?buhrdog;562774 wrote:Do you guys think like I do...that the private schools should have their own division? -

Nope....treat it like any other play off game and act like you've been there before......Oh wait we both have been there before...forget the acting part.THE4RINGZ;562811 wrote:Does either team have a community pep rally scheduled for Thursday night? -
OQBTotally agree with you 5knots!
-
OQBRingz, I did enjoy reading your analysis of the game. Well put.

Bingo! -
buhrdogBenavides is one of the best QBs I played with. I miss those days... that was a tight group. Similar to this years team. It was the teams that graduated the year before that was suppose to be the the studs and I believe that year we were picked third in the SLL
-
OQBFirst off let me say I am not trying to out do you.
I think this year's Orrville team is very similar to the 1998 Orrville team.....
In saying that here are my comparisons;
Very young QB, managing the game well. Zwick, now Lichti
Very good Running back(s) Dru Robinson, now Simpson, Monheim, Davis
Receiver's who stretch the field well. Michael Robinson, Yungen, Now Brenner and Turner
Good veteran offensive line (not as big, but they are coached by one of those lineman now)
Great Defense can stop the run and or the pass doesn't matter. (2010 CF game we shut them out for 23 minutes and 54 seconds, offense did not help us at all and our defense wore down) -
buhrdogSometimes the teams that are a little red around collar are the ones that surprise you. Last year Genoa had the complete team. But cockiness and not willing to brace the fundamentals cost them a dream season. Football is the ultimate team sport. There is nothing like it. If you cant get 11 guys to work as one, you are not going to win anything. That is why this run by Genoa is special. I didn't think they could get by OG. I think after each win they are gaining confidence. The scary thing is that most of this team will be back next year.
-
OQBVery well put buhrdog!
Orrville has a lot returning next year as well. -

If you need a bunch of cheer leaders yelling and a school band to get you up for this game then you shouldn't be playing. Just joking around...Pep rallies are always good for the community and brings fans closer together. -
buhrdogSounds great QB...I have a feeling we might be on this same message board this time next year.
-
OQBThat is if we stay in region 14 lol which I really hope we do!
-
5knotsWe'll see about that last point Friday QB. At least the part about the run. We kept CF at bay until we had a couple breakdowns on a screen and a play action that went big. that was also the first time we saw the wing T or whatever you call it. It is assignment football and until you see it it is difficult not to get caught up running back and forth trying to find the ball...kind of like raquet ball if you ever play with someone who knows what they are doing...I am the guy running to every corner! I digress. the biggest advantage for us this year facing Genoa is that we had CF in week 9. We've seen it (the offense) and it is fresh in our memory..believe me it is fresh! Doesn't mean Genoa cannot have success against us I just think it is an advantage for our team to have that CF game under our belt. Just like it was an advantage to have Ashland(Fuller) and Triway(Carmichael) under our belt facing EC.
On the flip side, has anyone really tried to spread Genoa out this year? I don't know. Maybe Comet guys could fill us in. When we spread you out it is with Truner (4.41) , Brenner (6'3,6'4" with a 33 inch vertical), Pirman 6'5 (4.51 speed), Monheim our LB/RB and we sometimes keep Simpson in the backfield or split him as well. that may be hard to simulate in practice just like it was hard for our scout team to simulate CF. thoughts? -

68 was a random number I came up while posting... I have done everything in my power to repress those EMBARRASSING SCORES from my memory. I know it was 50+ which is pathetic by any standard! Was the point of your post in opposition to my statement that we were schooled or was it just to point out the obvious for everyone that we didn't lose by exactly 68 points?bwcomet89;562604 wrote:Genoa has never lost to Eastwood by 68 points. at least not in your or my lifetime. Sure, a few years ago Genoa was losing by considerable margins, but 68 was never up on the scoreboard.
