WEEK 12: CAMPBELL MEMORIAL ( 10-1) VS. AKRON MANCHESTER ( 11-0 )
-
BigDean1The two schools have one common opponent in Girard. Both were victorious. Campbell's defense really stepped up in the win over Martins Ferry, pitching a shutout. Manchester defeated Perry 49-45. Your thoughts on this matchup?
-
THE4RINGZManchester is very balanced on offense. A quick and hard running back. Fast recievers with an above average qb. Should be a good game.
-
reddevil90Should be a great game.. I dont expect Ja'les to get shut down again if that's what you want to call it. . Give it up the Ferrys defense. But for Ja'les still getting a buck twenty five speaks for its self. Campbell has hard hitters fast recivers plenty of speed in the backfield. should be evenly matched up. I'm sorry but i still cant get over our defense coming up big.. Nobody shuts out Martins ferry. not even in a loss. You have to go all the way back to 2006 for there last shut out. that's four years.. That's a complete team effort. I would have loved to see some mixing up in the backfield. Speaking to a few guys at the game they all said the same thing campbell has great speed and hard runners but have yet to use them. might be a good time to see some #7 back there with Ja'les.. They are keying on him every down.
I look forward to this game Manchester is one them teams that can get it done. We have to have the same defense show up with this very good team. I looked over there record they can sure score on teams. But other then that i dont know much about them. when is the grid iron meeting for this game?? Do you have to be a member??? if so how do go about to get a membership?
Big dean Manchester beat Perry 49 to 45 if im not mistaken.. -

Yes sir, you are correct on the Manchester-Perry final score. I made the change in my post. I would be surprised to see #7 in the backfield unless Ja'les is out with an injury. Ja'les got us to this point. No change needed. The gridiron meeting is Monday night at 7 PM in the high school cafeteria. You can get a membership there. There is a phone number I can give you.

Yes sir. You are correct on the Manchester-Perry final score. I made the change in my post. I just read about that game on the Akron Beacon Journal website. It was one wild game. I would be very, very surprised to see #7 or anyone else in that backfield unless Ja'les goes down with an injury or needs a breather for a couple of plays. But the kid does not like to come out of games. He got us to where we are. He'll be the one that may well get us deeper into the playoffs.
Martins Ferry was small. But I was impressed by their quickness on defense. Except for a couple of plays, including the touchdown run by Ja'les, Campbell was unable to get outside much on Ferry. That team was well coached, got good penetration most of the night, and did a great job containing our offense. But Campbell's defense rose to the challenge in that game. Coach Sikora's defensive game plan worked to the letter.
Regarding the gridiron club, the meeting is this Monday night at 7PM. To get a membership you can attend the meeting. You can email me.
I will give you a telephone number you can call. You may be able to get your membership info sent to you through the US Mail. -
BigDean1I know the OHSAA isn't going to announce the sites for week 12 until Sunday. But does anyone "in the loop" have any information on where the CMHS-Manchester game will be played. I have heard three possibilities: Mollenkopf, Fitch, and Ravenna.

soupcitysoldierjust go to the meeting i think you can just buy your membership there...its 10 bucks. campbell/manchester should be a good game. personally manchester is a real good team. it concerns me that they put alot of points on perry, and keep in mind perry got their qb back for that game. but manchester is the team we want to play. they play a weaker schedule than perry and have yet to be really tested by a real good team. they are young but good. this is a good matchup for us. very winnable game. show up and you can win. my opinion only, not the sentiment of all of campbell. just what i think. after looking over their schedule and seeing common opponents and looking deep into their opponents, i would compare them to a team like labrae. that quality level. both teams played cvca with similar results, and actually manchester played cvca at the end of the year (when they shouldve been playing their best ball) to a 28-14 score. manchesters schedule is a bit weak to me...but i can always be wrong. im no expert...i really hope the state gives us a lil break and the game is at either mollenkopf or fitch. its ridiculous that were in the same region with ferry. on a side note...if you plan on wasting 50 cents on the vindicator DONT! its an embarressment for a paper...the misspellings are unbelievable. i cant take it. also, you give the front headline to a team not even from mahoning county?????????????????
-
oldschoolreddevAll three are great venues for playoff games. I think that we will play at mollenkopf or Fitch. I think lakeview will play at raven or twinsburg.
Manchester is good. they have a great head coach. great tradition. this should be a great game. -
reddevil90Same thing i heard. But everyone keeps saying Mollenkopf or Fitch. I have not heard the Ravenna one. but anything could happen. But if i was a betting man i would go with Mollenkopf.. Where would everyone like to see this game?? I pick Fitch.. closer for the great people of campbell to support there team. Or Mollenkoph where the devils had some Nightmares?
Thanks BigDean ill be Emailing as soon as i get back from this job.. I have to blow out the door as i speak... -

Girard, Coshocton, Triway, and Perry were all 4 very good teams. Manchester has been tested, and they've passed every test. Last night they faced 2-4 DI recruits and still came out the winners. However, they are very cautious about Memorial, who is a very good team, as well!
As for Manhcester, they're going to run the ball first, but they proved last night against Perry their Sophomore QB is for real, throwing for 350+ (I think 377?). Manchester is undersized but they are fast, hit hard, and never quit. Down 11 against a "superior" Perry team in the 4th quarter, they battled back for the victory. Playing at home was a big advantage for them, though. I think this will be a GREAT game! Nobody is going to blow out Manchester, but I don't expect Memorial to get blown out, either. I can see this game being 30-something to 20-something, or maybe even closer than that.
Good luck, Manchester! -

soup, reddevil90 lives in Wintersville, just up the road from Martins Ferry. That would be a long trip for him just to come to the gridiron meeting. Good talking to you last night. You made some really good observations during the game. It looks as if I have found another Yankee fan to chat with about my Red Sox and the Yanks.soupcitysoldier;546843 wrote:just go to the meeting i think you can just buy your membership there...its 10 bucks. campbell/manchester should be a good game. personally manchester is a real good team. it concerns me that they put alot of points on perry, and keep in mind perry got their qb back for that game. but manchester is the team we want to play. they play a weaker schedule than perry and have yet to be really tested by a real good team. they are young but good. this is a good matchup for us. very winnable game. show up and you can win. my opinion only, not the sentiment of all of campbell. just what i think. after looking over their schedule and seeing common opponents and looking deep into their opponents, i would compare them to a team like labrae. that quality level. both teams played cvca with similar results, and actually manchester played cvca at the end of the year (when they shouldve been playing their best ball) to a 28-14 score. manchesters schedule is a bit weak to me...but i can always be wrong. im no expert...i really hope the state gives us a lil break and the game is at either mollenkopf or fitch. its ridiculous that were in the same region with ferry. on a side note...if you plan on wasting 50 cents on the vindicator DONT! its an embarressment for a paper...the misspellings are unbelievable. i cant take it. also, you give the front headline to a team not even from mahoning county?????????????????
If you haven't already, I recommend that you switch from Armstrong to Directv. Then buy the baseball package. You can watch every Yankee game on tv. Or if you should eventually wise up, every Red Sox game Our defense was just outstanding last night. I do like what the Vindicator does each Friday with the Blitz.
But their game coverage is often less than marginal. When Campbell alum and Vindy beat writer Greg Gulas covers a Campbell game, he does it right. -

I agree with your point about the vindy, I was on the field before the game and the reporter didn't even know coach sikoras first name. Shabby. Also I noticed the vindy article, at least online, said we were playing perry next. They really need to tighten up. You are correct though Dean, Gulas is the man. I miss Mr. Kovach as well...but hes got the best seat in the house every week. -
reddevil90Wow that was a easy job.. Ok yeah that would stink i go to the meeting and told i have to apply for a membership.. lol I am moving back to campbell sometime this spring. But I was hoping someone can give me some info on eligibility.. My son and i want to know if we move to campbell in the spring would he have to sit a year??? I have other problems with his senior eligibility I'm fighting for cause of his age. He was held back by his mom in the 3rd grade and once in Kindergarten. Both by recommendation of the Struthers school system.. So he is already used up his 9th grade year and should have played 8th grade. but that's a different story he is still eligible for 3 years of high school football.
-
lets_go_devils
There's no need to apply for membership, you just join. As far as the eligibility goes, that type of move shouldn't warrant any loss of eligibility. Its not like he's transferring from one district to another just to play. I would give Mr. Pincairo a call to ask him though, he should be well versed with the eligibility rules set by the OHSAA.reddevil90;546942 wrote:Wow that was a easy job.. oldschoolreddevCall the pheasant directly. They would be able to tell you if his age is a problem. Moving into the district won't make him ineligible.
-
TheQIf the Red Devils play defense the way they did last night they will take this game. Campbell in another close one. I try not to look ahead, but I think a Campbell/Lakeview regional championship is a good possibility. Go AAC!!

Drive into the smaller parking lot on 1st Street. Walk toward the field house. Near the fieldhouse you will see a fence that is painted black. There will be an opened gate within that fence. Walk through that gate a few steps, turn to your right and walk to the first set of doors. Walk in and the cafeteria will be right there in that area. Or you can just wait in the parking lot until other members get there and just follow them in. I get there around 6:30. I drive a gold Chevy Cavalier. Just look for the tall goofy looking character getting out of it. -
reddevil90LOL sounds good look for the guy with a Walmart tire and lube jacket on and browns hat.. I dont work for them but my brother had a bunch of jackets and liked it so much i permanently borrowed it..
-
cmhs_prideI wouldn't say this team plays a weak schedule fellas. I agree with most....you do not get this far by not being capable of beating better opponents.
Hopefully we play in either Warren or Austintown, but I do not believe they will play at Fitch because we are only 15 minutes away. Ravenna is very nice as well and in all honesty, I will take a 40 minute drive over that 1:50 minute drive any day. Who in the hell makes the regions up?? I mean seriously....Akron Manchester could have wound up matching up with St. Clairsville in round one and somebody would had to have driven well over 150 miles to play in round one.
Big Big Test coming up on Friday. Good luck to the Devils and may the defense continue their success in round two against what seems to be a very high powered offense.
Just a quick question for football minds. If your QB is left handed, do you constantly roll him to his right and have him throwing against his body back across the field? Sorry....I am lost in that dept. -
sonnyblackZetts does alot of things that make you scratch your head and say WTF ?
-
oldschoolreddevFirst, Congrats to the red devils on a hard earned victory. I have a couple of questions about Manchester.
Has Campbell every played Manchester?
What kind of defense do they run?
A couple of other things, I believe that Manchester's schedule is underrated. It is similar to ours. I expect a great game this week.
Good luck red devils. -
realdeal6I expect a great game this weekend. It will be a huge challenge for both clubs. Manchester is #1 seed for a reason. I think the devils are beginning to gel on defense. I also believe that the offense will be alot better this week, maybe it was playoff jitters? I think they may be more composed and hopefully the game is closer.
