WEEK 12: CAMPBELL MEMORIAL ( 10-1) VS. AKRON MANCHESTER ( 11-0 )
-
BigDean1Akron Manchester plays in the Principals Athletic Conference. I found an early season article on the team, printed after their week one victory over Girard. Listed below are many of their starters. They dress 38 players. According to Max-Preps they returned 3 starters on offense and 5 on defense. Their strenghs are listed as work ethic and attitude. Their weaknesses are listed as being inexperienced because they are young this year, a lack of depth, and a lack of size.
They return their top running back, top receiver, top offensive lineman, and top defensive player, although names are not listed. Max-Preps states that their toughest opponents for this season were to be Coshocton, Girard, and Wooster Triway in that order, with Coshocton the toughest.
QB Nick Peyakov 6-2, 170 sophomore
LB-RB-K Mark Noble 6-2, 185 senior
TE-LB Nick Miller 6-4, 190 senior
S-WR-RB Tyler Masters 5-10, 170 senior
DB-WR Kyle Dougherty
WR-Nate Lynch
OT-Lucas Dies
C-Tony Matteo
RB-Curt Logan
LB-Jacob Miltner
DE-Joe Mikvlin -

Here is the field.. Looks nice and i hope we travel good. BigDean I might not make it to the gridiron cause I'm on call till 5pm just got my work order for the week. This sucks. But if i get no call by 5 i should make it. I hope so i really like to meet the guys that make this forum great.
Also they should be evenly matched up.. I do not understand why a lefty throws across is body but it works most of the time. and zetts has alot of trick of his sleeve. and we didn't need to use them last week. It was a great win and i hope to see it continue. I would love to get another shot at Chagrin falls if we make it through this week. I for some reason and it might be me dont want nothing to do with Lakeview. But that's if we get through this very tough team. Bring it home boys another step closer to completion. All we ask as fans is play hard and stay HUNGRY and Injury free. The rest will work its self out. We are the proud Campbell Memorial Red devil's. -
reddevil90Daaaammmmmm Thats a long drive for me!!!! A little over 2 hours. I guess its payback for the short drive i had last week.

oldschoolreddevIf I remember correctly, take 76 to the rt 14 exit. Take rt 14 north to rt 45. Make a left on rt 45, stadium is on the right.

GoPensCongrats Campbell and keep it rolling--from your friends at Salem.

Thank you GoPens. A tough loss for Salem last night. But a fine season regardless.GoPens;549309 wrote:Congrats Campbell and keep it rolling--from your friends at Salem. -
BigDean1It would benefit a lot of us if game tickets could be purchased at the gridiron meeting on Monday night.

Take 14 East from 76. 44 (not 45) joins in with 14 for a while a little after that... when 44 turns off to the North (there will be a Sheetz at the intersection), take the road to the South. Stadium is on the right down the road from there.oldschoolreddev;549300 wrote:If I remember correctly, take 76 to the rt 14 exit. Take rt 14 north to rt 45. I used to work in Ravenna, if you leave early enough I STRONGLY recommend you stop at Guido's Pizzeria. It is BY FAR the best pizza I've ever had....
and I'm a fat guy lol
Hope you see you all there tonight...ill try to recap the meeting for those that can't make it. -
soupcitysoldieris guidos on the way????
-
soupcitysoldierby the way nice that the state gave us a little break after our 2 hour drive lololol manchester should just walk across the street to the stadium lololololol but seriously is ravenna closer to them or us?
-
QuakerOatsCongrat's to Campbell and good luck this week (from the ONLY team that has defeated the Red Devils this year )
-
soupcity99I figured we would end up playing hear friday night becuase akron manchester is actually located more towards canton. I believe its a 40 minute ride from manchester to ravenna. So its actually about equal distance. Had we played in warren it would have been an hour for manchester and about 35 minutes for campbell.
-
OhioShould be a great game. campbell needsto get their weapons in the open field and let them go. Keep the ball away from manchester and they could win as the underdog.
-
GoPensActually if you're coming on I-76, take the Route 14 exit and turn RIGHT onto 14 (this is northwest). Once you zip around the outskirts of Ravenna, turn LEFT at the Sheetz onto Route 44. The stadium will be on your right in less than a 1/2 mile. (Just past the hospital) Good Luck Devils.
-
soupcity99I would follow Gopens directions. 76 to route 14 which i believe is exit 43. Just follow all the way until you get to a sheetz and make a left. Thier will be a sign on the left pointing in the direction of the stadium.
I drive this route alot going to back to campbell to see the parents!! -

Thanks soup. I'll take that route in my Mercedes. -
7DiamondExpecting a good game Friday night, great venue, looks like good weather, two programs that have great histories. It's hard to believe they've not duked it out before.
Since most of the posters so far are from Campbell, I'll give the two cents worth on Manchester. The preview from MaxPreps that BigDean1 posted was right, at least to begin the season. The offense was especially young, led by a sophomore QB. The young QB looked overwhelmed in the opener at Girard, so they took to the ground in the 2nd half to rally from a 14-0 deficit, winning 21-14. The next week, at home against Coshocton, he settled in to pass for over 200 yards and 2 TDs, one with under 2 minutes left for the game winner. Since then, he has continued to grow, leading up to last week's 369 yards (21 of 35) against Perry. Somebody forgot to tell the kid that a sophomore isn't supposed to do that.
The key to those first two wins is that the Panthers took what the defense gave them - Girard defended the pass, Coshocton loaded up in the box. Manchester would like to run the ball every play, so you'll have to guard that first. This is the most balanced offense I've ever seen from Manchester (40 years worth), it's mostly a product of Coach France's son calling the plays and the talent they have on the field. A major plus for the young QB is that the receivers are seniors, so they have made him look even better.
The defense is similiar to the offense, balanced in stopping the run or pass, not necessarily great at one or the other. Coshocton and CVCA were two run first teams, but they only got 15 and 14 points apiece. Triway and Perry were throwing all the time, they scored more (22 and 45), but they also had QBs and a receiver that are all-state caliber. A strong, balanced offense will probably give the Panthers more than they can handle.
Special teams are good, but nothing spectacular. The best description for them is heart, hard working, and cohesive. MaxPreps did get that part right, also. Coaching is also huge, a long term staff with the head coach in place for 39 years, around 325 victories, a hall of fame resume.
